Streetcar testing on rebuilt track & new pantograph wiring on 501 Queen route west of Roncesvalles today! I took these pix at Kipling Loop today (used for short turns, as well as for buses). Spoke with track workers, streetcar will go to Long Branch loop tomorrow. Sign sez HOLD.
@Dub__A
These are awesome - unfortunately design, character, and flair have been value engineered out of almost everything house related in recent decades. All we're left with is the near identical tacky shit from different stores.
@VanishingUnder
@Metrolinx
@GOtransit
So GO trains at Union will sit in station with all of the doors closed for an ENTIRE MINUTE, while passengers want to board, then leave without them??
@moore_oliver
Many GO passengers have been riding for decades w/o issue. This is a bad policy.
@ttcriders
@trainguy89
@shawnmicallef
Doesn't play well with other buildings on the street. But most of all, for me, is that the exhibition space inside is so hostile to the actual exhibits - there's so much unused, weird angle space wasted, plus a dank chasm in the centre 'honouring' the funders of this monstrosity.
@TOAdamVaughan
@EricDLombardi
@iamdavidmiller
This obsession with building transit only to gain new riders is a neo-con economic fallacy - better, faster transit lines generate repeat rides, gets more people onto transit, allows increased density, makes transit easier to use & rely upon.
@jahorne
@RM_Transit
I'd say it's cultural. In Canada the bus (& streetcar) are not seen as mainly for the poor. So surface lines feed rail lines, necessitating higher frequencies. Plus large Canadian cities haven't abandoned downtowns, so entertainment & residential, not just business uses.
@iamdavidmiller
@mirgray
Give it a rest David. The Ontario Line is sorely needed, & is much better value than Ford's subway extensions to the sprawling suburbs...
@Penalosa_G
@Metrolinx
It moves thousands more people daily, and suburban residents use it to get downtown quickly. Metrolinx needs to electrify the line & trains, & add more into service, for subway frequencies & much higher ridership.
The 504 King & 505 Dundas streetcars carry more than 100,000 people per day. It should not take them upwards of 3 minutes to leave the loop.
Toronto politicians should watch this video in its ENTIRETY, or, better yet, take the TTC to city hall each day.

@the_transit_guy
OMG. I worked at a big 4 accounting firm for years and the level of scrutiny of our timesheets was insane. Had to charge in 15 minute increments. Knowing the price of everything but completely ignorant of the value. Piddly bonuses while the partner made millions a year.
@taracharamod
@Newbornstranger
Musicians led the protest against this war, and they changed public opinion so that the US pulled out of Vietnam in 1975. Vonnegut's quote is great, but inaccurate.
@natnewswatch
The more that Canadian (and US) companies and industries denounce the
#FluTrucksKlan
, the less everyone'll think that this movement is legit.
@jm_mcgrath
Toronto's had deferred rapid transit construction for over 20 years, and finally we're now actually building it. Plus there will be a million more Toronto residents in the next 10 years. Traffic is already at pre-Covid levels. Halting subway plans would be really foolish.

@McKelvieTO
@DianneSaxe
City Council &

need to more quickly convert civic golf courses to fully, completely public parks for everyone. We all need the clearer air that natural parks & trees bring!
@iamdavidmiller
David, respectfully, you are turning into Robert F Kennedy Jr. on this issue. The Ontario Line will be full on day 1. Quit while you are ahead. Torontonians have had too many good rapid transit projects cancelled. The Ontario Line may not be perfect, but it is very very useful.
@bmdoucet
It's disgraceful that mediocre Mayor
@johntory
won't push for enforcement of these streetcar priority lanes, nor implement any other such lanes on other streetcar lines, nor expedite RapidTO bus lanes.
@Penalosa_G
will likely do so! The transit rider's Mayor.
@PrimeVideoCA
Should've followed Les Canadiens, much more interesting season, Covid struggles, coach firing, exciting rookies, everyone predicting they'd be swept four straight in first round, and they make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. Now that's a story worth watching.
@GOtransitKT
@CityBrampton
But
@Metrolinx
won't rename GO stations that interchange with the subway to longer standing & better known TTC station names, eg Dundas West not 'Bloor', Main Street not 'Danforth', Leslie not 'Oriole'...
@RM_Transit
Lake Shore Blvd West between Mimico Ave & Second St, part of the Waterfront Trail (as there is no public lakefront land on this section). Amazing & busy day & night, we need more such protected bike lanes.

Having an all star game during a pandemic - top level thinking from the NHL! As well as their new trend of downsizing arenas to 5,000 fans...

The key point for
@Metrolinx
and
@redesigningTTC
is that their two transit networks, seamlessly integrated together, add up to far more than their sum. It will open up many corners of Toronto and the GTHA to rapid transit and vastly improved mobility.
@JohnPerenack
@ThermeCanada
Therme, find a site that’s not a well-loved public park and heritage landscape. And don’t ask for a huge public subsidy to build your private spa. Doug Ford does not speak for Torontonians. He is really damaged goods.
@_Mindbrain_
Pierre Trudeau was really disliked & hated in the west as PM, having lived in BC at that time, a lot of it because of his National Energy Policy. Which I agreed with personally. The PM needs to look after the entire country, not just their 'base' like Harper, Ford, Harris, & Cons
@BenSpurr
Yet the Integrity Commissioner has no problem with Mayor John Tory receiving $100,000 annually from Rogers... This decision on Marlow is obviously political.
@the_transit_guy
Unfortunately drive thru places always prioritize serving vehicles. I always walk in, & watch so many orders going to the drive thru ahead of mine. I hate waiting in the car line - how lazy can you get? (Obvs drive thrus are great for people with mobility issues & those w kids.
@moore_oliver
GO is saying that we would run on schedule, if it weren't for those annoying and pesky passengers. That's a really Scooby Doo policy decision.

Do not approach - deadly to seniors in Long Term Care homes, and very dangerous to school children under 12. Lies through his teetch. Responds very well to donations.
@Kalinsky_
I was so torn in this vote - both systems have so much unmet potential, yet have great bones. US transit agencies keep thinking that having stations & lines is enough. What riders need & crave is frequent service!
@AlexanderGlista
The city could, if it weren't blowing a Billion on keeping the creaking and mostly empty Gardiner East Expressway up, and blowing more Billions tunneling subways under single family homes in suburban sprawl
@JohnTory
@TorontoStar
As traffic gets worse downtown & on GTA highways, any time advantage the GO buses have will disappear. Unless bus lanes are installed on the Gardiner/QEW/DVP as well as on streets from Lake Shore Blvd to the GO Bus Terminal.

CEO Andy Byford, in Toronto, New York (where he was given the nickname 'Train Daddy'), and London. In the first two cities he didn't even own a car (dunno about London but suspect not either).
@the_transit_guy
Toronto banned construction of new drive thrus in residential neighbs due to the vastly increased pollution of so many idling vehicles all day and evening long.

@Ramsey_Kilani
King 504 is the busiest streetcar line in North America. Carries more than the entire GO Train network daily. Forcing 504 streetcars to divert, especially with the 501 Queen cars on diversion, makes no sense. Put the

party on a side street.
