The flaw in this logic is that there were always ppl who knew crimes like slavery were wrong and fought against them. Namely, the people being enslaved. Saying "everyone at the time thought it was right" enshrines the values of the powerful while erasing voices of the oppressed.

Hi Councillor, the people packed on platforms at Bloor-Yonge station aren’t “the poor downtown crowd.” The station is the main transfer point for Line 2, which extends into Scarborough and Etobicoke. Riders are from across the city.

The 18-year-old cyclist who died on Avenue Rd. yesterday was killed in a collision with a cement truck. At least two pedestrians have been killed by cement or dump trucks in TO this year, meaning these trucks make up 1/4 of vulnerable road user deaths so far in 2021.

The Toronto Police have been telling reporters they couldn't say how many tickets they've given to cyclists in High Park without reporters submitting an FOI. Yesterday the mayor said he hoped TPS would release those figures. Lo and behold, today TPS published the numbers.

Scoop: Toronto signed secret deal in 2018 allowing it to back out of World Cup 2026 if it didn't get fed and prov funding by mid-2020. It didn't get funding agreements by then, but didn't pull out. The costs have now grown from $45 million to $380 million

Yesterday Premier Doug Ford criticized the NIMBYism he encountered while a Toronto councillor, which he said prevented housing being built. In 2012, he joined local residents in opposing a major development in his Etobicoke ward, saying it would "destroy the area."
