We go to a Roman Catholic Church (despite not following all the tenets) because it’s tradition.. but also because being a Catholic is awesome. You can literally do whatever you want because we have a sacrament called “confession”.
Highly recommend.

I'm going to pretend that instead of being a vet your a physician with a primary care practice limited to jazz musicians.
The pope's replacing his pension and housing with another pension, right? Because a pension is payment for past services and otherwise it's defrauding workers of their wages.

Whose speech is more likely to be chilled here? The institutionally backed WaPo reporter or the independent Chaya Raichik, when the WaPo posts a link to (as I understand it) her unrelated employment contact info?
This is just completely nuts. Fernandez has basically single-handedly invented a new theology of blessings and the pope, apparently not being a details person, went along with it.
Cardinal Fernandez told
@PillarCatholic
Friday that "we have to grow in the conviction that non-ritualized blessings are not a consecration of the person, they are not a justification of all his actions, they are not a ratification of the life he leads."
Imagine telling Abune Mathias, head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, that he can't believe in Christianity as the one true faith without being a white supremacist.
.
@KarnRulez
I’d be happy to explain.
Christianity has been used as an arm of white supremacy for the last few centuries, as an arm of oppression since about 70ad. The notion that Christianity is the superior, better faith, is in itself a notion of white supremacy ideology. (1)
Cardinal Christopher had Pope Leo V arrested and thrown into prison and then had himself elected (anti)pope. He may have also had Leo V murdered in prison.

At some point I feel like this is an ethical issue for reporters. Like does she not realize that this is a national news story? And if she is comfortable being in the story, then it's an accuracy issue because then she *is* comfortable sharing it.

I was an altar boy in the 70s, diocese of Tucson. Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe worship was the driving force in catholic devotion and culture. She was everywhere, tshirts, dashboards, scapulars, prayers cards, fridge magnets etc
So you're saying before he didn't believe in the teaching of the Catholic Church. Did you explain that the Catholic Church doesn't believe in works righteousness or did you take advantage of his ignorance to buttress your argument.
Me: While I think that the overstated principle of unity expressed by Cardinal Cupich et al. causes unrealized theoretical problems for the existence of eastern rite churches, it's unlikely anyone would actually think their existence is problematic.

It's common to use "Bible" in English in reference to the Scriptures, especially when one means all three parts collectively: Torah, Prophets, and Writings.
Few Christian merchants complain about being "forced" to serve non-Christians, which could, again, be seen as a tacit approval of non-Christian beliefs. No one claims religious liberty exemptions for that. (Yet.) But in the case of designing websites, baking cakes and..

Archbishop Fernández is already showing that he will approach the leadership of the Church’s doctrine office in a very different way to his predecessors by responding swiftly to attacks/criticisms.
His theological writings show someone seeking to “translate” the Christian faith

In fact, modern cargo shipping by sea *is* incredibly efficient in both cost and emissions, with the result that it can be less costly to transport a product a huge distance by sea than a much shorter distance by other means.
Astounding ignorance. There are many different versions of the Byzantine rite in use in the Catholic Church. There are 2 main families: Greek & Slavic. The Slavic again divides into the Recensio vulgata (Russians, Serbs, Belarusians) & Recensio Ruthena (Ukrainians and Ruthenians)
Good morning Catholics
Can you show me in scripture where it says Mary and Jesus are equal?
Can you show me in scripture where Mary is Queen of Heaven?
Can you show me in scripture where Mary is sweet sweet salvation.
I am looking to learn and see these things in scripture.

Orthodox sacraments are indubitably valid. Anglican ordinations and Eucharists are almost always not. This is a key difference that must be accounted for and not elided.

The Dominican, Ambrosian, Carthusian, Mazorabic, Lyon, Romano-Seraphic, and half a dozen other forms of the Roman rite would like a word.
Just to comment on Eastern part: She says Byzantine & Coptic rites are OK b/c they were "imported from a foreign country" A) Eastern Churches are about ways of being Christian, not about nation states (which they predate) B) where does she think the Roman Mass came from? Topeka?
In a commentary, Zita Ballinger Fletcher writes, "The Latin Mass fosters clericalist structures in the church." Based on her personal experience, "the stubbornly resistant, anti-modern practices of these Latin Mass adherents border on cultism."
Trying not to be snarky... We did that. We had a whole movement called the Reform of the Reform. We spent a couple of decades doing that. It is a tremendous amount of work for a small return and that is easily overturned. Traditionalism as a reform movement worked better.

I'm always wondering what would happen if the people who love EF for its reverence channeled their energy into volunteering to educate about how to make NO better instead of holing themselves up in their little liturgical enclaves. Allllllways wondering.
No, it means things like wearing the prescribed vestments, not using recorded music, not changing the words, not omitting required parts of the Mass, not leaving the procession to gladhand, not dropping a host on the floor and ignoring it.
Burke is a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in good standing and a cardinal. You can't just call him a "dissenter" with no evidence! If you want to be Where Peter Is™ you have to live with that.
Vatican II reintroduced the Prodigal Son into the Mass readings.
Say what you will about the council, but it had a fierce commitment to preaching the mercy of Christ.

The Byzantine Rite has multiple "missals" published by Rome: Greek, Greater Slavic, and Lesser Slavic. These do not differ merely in language or local feasts, they have different texts and customs. They are then broken down even further by local customs within those groupings.

This is complete bull. *A* copy of the work by Cicero was copied over, which, as a result, happened to survive in incomplete form. It was part of the general reusing of materials, not a copying over of the "last" copy.
The last copy of Cicero’s De Republica was written over with Augustine’s Psalms. A codex of histories by Sallux was erased to make way for more St Jerome. A biography by Seneca was replaced with yet another copy of the Old Testament. Thanks to Christians, less than 1% of Latin
