"It felt like I was blessed."
Esteban was homeless for two years — at first living in a car and eventually in a tent on the streets of South LA.
Through Inside Safe, Esteban now has a place to sleep indoors and the support he needs to start rebuilding his life.
Lights for a legend.
Los Angeles City Hall lit in purple and gold starting at 8:24 p.m. this evening in honor of Kobe Bryant’s storied championship career and in memory of Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and all who perished in today’s tragedy.
This weekend we saw too many people packing beaches, trails and parks. So we are closing sports and recreation at
@LACityParks
and closing parking at city beaches. That doesn’t mean gather elsewhere. This is serious. Stay home and save lives.
It’s official: our City Council has voted to rename Rodeo Road to Obama Boulevard!
We’re thrilled that Angelenos and visitors will forever be reminded of the legacy of President
@BarackObama
when traveling across L.A.
Today I authorized the City to disconnect utility service at a house in the Hollywood Hills to stop the large parties held there in flagrant violation of our public health orders. Parties like these can quickly and easily spread the virus and put our communities at risk.
The responsibility for George Floyd’s death rests solely with the police officers involved. Chief Moore regrets the words he chose this evening and has clarified them.
This evening, more than 40 people were sent by the Governor of Texas to our City of Los Angeles.
Shortly after I took office, I directed City Departments to begin planning for an event like this.
This did not catch us off guard.
We are now executing our plan. 1/3
These are the emergency steps we are taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 & protect people across LA, effective at midnight tonight. This isn’t easy & I don't make this decision lightly. We will do everything we can to help businesses & workers impacted during this time.
I have lifted the curfew in the City of Los Angeles. We remain strongly committed to protecting the right of Angelenos to make their voices heard and ensuring the safety of our community.

It’s almost 3 p.m. Time to turn off major appliances, set the thermostat to 78 degrees (or use a fan instead), turn off excess lights and unplug any appliances you’re not using.
We need every Californian to help conserve energy. Please do your part.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but you need to cancel the party, barbecue or get together you planned for Labor Day weekend. Gatherings like that can spread COVID-19 and put lives at risk.
Please do your part to slow the spread.
L.A. is proud to be home to the largest Armenian diaspora. We stand with the people of Armenia. I urge our leaders in Washington to conduct the sustained and rigorous diplomacy necessary to bring peace to the Artsakh region. Turkey must disengage.
We’re going to have to celebrate differently this year. Everyone should cancel plans with others for the 4th of July. You shouldn’t gather with anyone who doesn’t live in your household.
Please stay home and save lives — it’s that simple.
There’s no denying it –– this has been a hard year.
This championship win means so much to our city and the people who call it home.
Thank you
@Lakers
for bringing us together. We’re lighting the night in purple and gold to celebrate.

Food is continually en route to our stores. There is no shortage of food and no interruption in supply. Remember, we're all in this together and shouldn't hoard more than we need.
COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in our county. The threat posed by this virus is very real. The sacrifices we’re making to help flatten the curve are working, but there's still a long road ahead.
Now is not the time to let up.
I know many of you are feeling frustrated or wondering when we'll be able to lift the Safer at Home order. But lifting the restrictions too soon could risk lives. My promise to the people of L.A. is that evidence and medicine will continue to guide us through this crisis.
Ermias Asghedom was an artist, entrepreneur, activist and philanthropist.
He was an Angeleno.
He loved this city and gave of himself to uplift his neighborhood and his neighbors.
Our city mourns his loss, but his legacy endures.
Rest in peace, Nipsey Hussle.
Nope, definitely not aliens.
What you’re looking at is the first launch and landing of the

Falcon 9 rocket on the West Coast. The rocket took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:21 p.m. and landed safely back on Earth. 🚀
What a proud day for L.A.! This boulevard that connects our city is now named for one of the greatest presidents that this nation has ever seen.

I’m issuing a Safer at Home emergency order — ordering all residents of
@LACity
to stay inside their homes and immediately limit all nonessential movement. We’re taking this urgent action to limit the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.
Everyone wants to know when life will go back to normal. The truth is we're not moving past COVID-19, we’re learning to live with it and take gradual steps forward. Our Safer at Home order will remain beyond May 15, but will be adjusted to let more people get back to work safely.
A test is not a passport to party.
Just because you test negative for COVID-19 doesn't mean you should get together with people outside your household. We all need to continue to avoid gatherings. This virus is deadly and we must stop the spread.
For everything that we do, we will continue to lock arms and we will continue to lead — and we will always put people’s health and wellbeing over politics. 3/3
If you are age 65 or older or have a chronic underlying medical condition, and have symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath or fever, you can get free testing for COVID-19 today. Learn more and make an appointment at .

Regardless of your immigration status, I want every Angeleno to know your city is on your side. Here in Los Angeles, our police department does not coordinate with ICE or participate in immigration enforcement.
Know your rights:
Our new COVID-19 testing site at Dodger Stadium will allow us to test up to 6,000 people per day quickly and efficiently.
Tests are free and no insurance is needed.

We won’t let one weekend undo a month of progress.
While the sunshine is tempting, we’re staying home to save lives.
The places we love — our beaches, hiking trails — will still be there when this is over.
And by staying home, we’re making sure our loved ones will be too.
Kobe Bryant was a giant who inspired, amazed, and thrilled people everywhere with his incomparable skill on the court — and awed us with his intellect and humility as a father, husband, creative genius, and ambassador for the game he loved.

I just declared a state of emergency on homelessness to unlock every tool and authority at our disposal to bring unhoused Angelenos inside.
This is a matter of life and death and that’s exactly how my administration will treat it.
It is a new day in Los Angeles.
As we cheer our
@Lakers
’ 17th championship, please remember it's still not safe to gather in groups. Let’s honor our city's triumph by protecting others and making sure we don't spread the virus.
Please celebrate safely at home. Do not gather at Staples Center. Thank you!
I know we're all anxious to return to our routines –– to see the people we love and visit the places that make this city home. But please take this health pandemic seriously –– stay home and practice physical distancing. Every single choice you make could save a life or risk one.
The California National Guard is being deployed to Los Angeles overnight to support our local response to maintain peace and safety on the streets of our city.
I believe in our city. L.A. is strong enough to stand for justice and walk in love.
We respect every Angeleno's right to protest, but violence and vandalism hurts all.
Let's remember why we march, protect each other, and bring a peaceful end to a painful night.
REMINDER: Hiking trails, beaches, and sports facilities are closed in L.A. We need all Angelenos to respect these orders, so we can slow the spread of COVID-19. Do your part. Your city is counting on you. Lives depend on us staying safer at home.
Beaches and trails remain closed this weekend. Please don’t spend your time outside. It's not worth it. We all want our city to reopen as soon as possible, but making the steady progress we are making is what will lead to recovery. For now, please keep it up.
I can’t be more clear about this: This weekend, more than ever, you need to stay home.
Beaches remain closed. Public trails remain closed. Sports and recreation facilities are closed.
Unnecessary trips put lives at risk. It's that simple.
BREAKING NEWS: The 10 is going to be safe to drive on tomorrow — WEEKS ahead of schedule — because of urgent action and collaboration at all levels of government.
When we work together, nothing can stop Los Angeles.
L.A. is mourning the loss of two remarkable ambassadors for our city,
@Dodgers
legend Tommy Lasorda and former L.A. City Councilmember Tom LaBonge.
We've lit City Hall in their honor as we remember them tonight. Rest in peace.
We have seen images of dangerously crowded farmers markets –– so I’m announcing the temporary suspension of farmers markets pending City review of physical distancing plans needed to keep communities safe. We will review plans immediately so markets can stay open this week.

Though we are taking some small steps forward this weekend to allow for more outdoor exercise, I want all Angelenos to remember that we are still safer at home. You still cannot gather with people who live outside your household. Period.
The curfew has been expanded to the entire city to keep Angelenos safe. People in the City of Los Angeles are required to stay indoors tonight, starting at 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Always exciting to see innovative ideas like the proposed Dugout Loop to
@Dodgers
Stadium that could help ease congestion on our roads and make our most iconic destinations more accessible to everyone.
The Boring Company is excited to announce Dugout Loop – a high-speed, zero-emissions, underground public transportation system, allowing fans to get from the Red Line to Dodger Stadium in under 4 minutes
We’re requiring all Angelenos to wear face coverings when they leave the house. There are exceptions in place for small children or those with disabilities.
A 3.8 earthquake shook the L.A. area tonight shortly after midnight. Our

The Biden Administration has now approved nearly $138 billion in student debt cancellation for nearly 3.9 million people.
It’s a great day in L.A.
Our hearts are with the loved ones of Nipsey Hussle and everyone touched by this awful tragedy. L.A. is hurt deeply each time a young life is lost to senseless gun violence. My Crisis Response Team is assisting the families coping with shock and grief.
Wishing Dr. Anthony Fauci a happy birthday. Grateful for his steady, experienced leadership for our country during these difficult days.
We can honor him by following science, staying safe and stopping the surge of COVID-19.
The sun may be shining, but we can't let up. We can't get complacent. We have to do everything we can to limit the spread of COVID-19.
If you must go out, please wear a face covering in public. Maintain 6 feet of distance.
Protect your family, your neighbors, your community.
We stand with the Armenian community against violence. Azerbaijan must end its provocative and dangerous threats to strike Armenia’s civilian nuclear power plant, and must admit international monitors. Dialogue and diplomacy are the only paths to peace and safety for the region.
As we head into the weekend, please remember that our Safer at Home order is still in effect. I know it’s hard to have our favorite places –– our beaches and hiking trails –– closed. But these restrictions will save lives. Please stay home and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Today
@LAPublicHealth
is closing all public trails, beaches and piers within the county. These are difficult decisions, but I agree they are vitally needed steps to protect the health and safety of our communities, and save lives.
As we started reopening more businesses, we cautioned that we may need to change course to protect public health from this deadly virus. I support
@CAGovernor
’s order to close bars in L.A. County and other counties to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The boys in blue are going back to the World Series! Our city is now one step closer to bringing home our first title in a generation — and Angelenos cannot wait to cheer them on through every inning and every game.
Go
@Dodgers
!
Thank you all for your collective sacrifice to help flatten the curve. Thank you for wearing a face covering. Thank you for staying home.
We're saving lives — someone's sister, someone's grandfather, someone's loved one. These aren't numbers, they're our neighbors.
