This is the language used by Nazis against Jews ("vermin"), Hutus against Tutsis ("cockroaches") and American slaveowners against slaves ("animals"). Once you've labeled people as animals, violence, murder and genocide will follow. Every person, every migrant, is a child of God.
Calling people animals is sinful. Every human being has infinite dignity. Moreover, this is the same kind of language that led to the extermination of Jews ("vermin") in Germany and of Tutsi ("cockroaches") in Rwanda. This kind of language cannot be normalized. It is a grave sin.
It is not biblical to treat migrants and refugees like animals.
It is not biblical to take children away from their parents.
It is not biblical to ignore the needs of the stranger.
It is not biblical to enforce unjust laws.
Do not use the Bible to justify sin.
In case anyone has forgotten:
Child abuse is a sin.
Sexual abuse is a sin.
Sexual harassment is a sin.
Racism, and white supremacy, is a sin.
Jesus asks us to welcome the stranger.
Jesus asks us to love the poor.
There are indeed two sides to these issues:
Good and evil.
A funnier thing is that Jesus spent more of his time with prostitutes than with presidents. Funnier still, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you." (Mt. 21:31)

Like many, I've resisted using this word but it's time: the deliberate and unnecessary separation of innocent children from their parents is pure evil. It does not come from God or from any genuinely moral impulse. It is wantonly cruel and targets the most vulnerable. 1/
Good question. Here's a possible answer: everyone, no matter who they are or what they look like, is a beloved child of God, with infinite dignity and beauty, and should be reverenced as a beautiful creation.
Pilate had Jesus beaten and whipped, thrown into jail overnight, marched through the streets carrying his cross, and then nailed to that cross until he died. Comparing the treatment received by the President to what Jesus suffered is absurd. Also, only one of them is sinless.
“...When Jesus was falsely accused of Treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers. During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus, than Democrats have afforded this president in this process.”
#ShamImpeachment
Disgraceful. Do not use St. Paul to justify unjust laws and acts of cruelty. St. Paul was an apostle not of laws (we are not justified by laws, he says in Romans), but an apostle of a person: Jesus Christ. The one who said, "I was a stranger and you did not welcome me" (Mt. 25).
AG Jeff Sessions on immigration policy: Illegal entry into the US is a crime; "I would cite you to the apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes."
Pope Francis: Tax evasion is part of a "structure of sin." He also quoted this article: "It has become evident that those who do not pay taxes do not only commit a felony but also a crime: if there are not enough hospital beds and artificial respirators, it is also their fault."
The dehumanization of a minority group is a classic way of legitimizing the mistreatment of that group. It happened in Nazi Germany (with Jews described as "vermin") and in Rwanda (with Tutsi as "cockroaches"). This kind of language always leads to violence and, eventually, death

Being gay isn't a sin. It's the way that God made some people. And be careful about biblical literalism. E.g., should we stone people who work on the Sabbath (Ex. 35:2)? Also, be careful: the Bible says a lot about marriage. Solomon, Moses and Abraham all had multiple wives.
Mayor Buttigieg says he’s a gay Christian. As a Christian I believe the Bible which defines homosexuality as sin, something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicized. The Bible says marriage is between a man & a woman—not two men, not two women. 2/3
"Why are we having all these people from sh#*hole countries come here?"
1) They are our brothers and sisters in need.
2) They are often fleeing war, violence or famine.
3) There are children among them.
4) It's the right thing to do.
5) That's who we are.
This is the opposite of Christianity. Not only targeting the stranger, but targeting the poor among them. I'm not sure how much more unchristian you can get, but I bet we'll find out.
1.) Christmas never left.
2.) Christmas is about littleness. God entered the world as a poor, small, helpless infant, the most vulnerable state imaginable.
3.) Christmas is about humility. God lowered himself, "emptied himself," to enter into the human condition.
Merry Christmas
Needless to say, neither God in the OT nor Jesus in the NT said anything about Americans. Rather, Jesus told his disciples to "take no staff," when staffs were used as weapons (Lk 9:3). And he tells Peter to sheath his sword: "Who lives by the sword dies by the sword" (Mt 26:52).
It doesn't matter who you are, what party you belong to, who you voted for, where you live, what religion you are, or whether you're a man or woman: mocking someone like this is inhuman.

Sen. David Perdue tried to energize supporters ahead of a rally for President Trump by mocking the first name of Sen. Kamala Harris, his colleague in the Senate for nearly four years.
False. If you're religious, you believe in a God of mercy, who looks upon these people with infinite compassion. Suicide is the usually the result of depression, which is an illness. And God does not condemn the ill (Jn 9:3). At least that's what this religious person believes.

Any public person who uses speech that dehumanizes people ("animals"), condones their assault ("Any guy that can do a body slam...he's my guy") condemns them as sinners ("sodomites") or paints them as a threat ("heretic") cannot, when those people are attacked, claim innocence.
"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's" doesn't mean everything is Caesar's. Nor does it mean everything Caesar does it right. Caesar's role is limited. Plus you've forgotten the second part: "Give to God what is God's." And what does God ask? It's clear: Welcome the stranger (Mt 25).

It’s a way for LGBT people to be proud that they are beloved children of God, they have families who love them as they are, and they have a right to be treated with "respect, compassion and sensitivity" after years of persecution.
To be clear, even members of MS-13 are not "animals." Every human being has dignity, even the worst criminals, even murderers. The main danger of the "animal" language is that it begins with criminals, and then is applied to entire classes of people (i.e., migrants, Tutsi, Jews).

No. Jesus "broke the laws," both religious and civic, several times, which is one of the reasons he was crucified. He healed on the Sabbath, permitted his disciples to pluck grain, had contact with the unclean, and so on. Plus, he was indeed a refugee:
Paula White: "Jesus did live in Egypt for three-and-a-half years. But it was not illegal. If He had broken the law then He would have been sinful and He would not have been our Messiah."
Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis says the five victims of the Colorado Springs Club Q shooting “are now reaping the consequences of eternal damnation... There is no evidence at all that they were Christians.”

#TaxBill
that takes money from the poor to give to the rich. Those who voted for it will face consequences later, when they are judged. Do you think Jesus's words about being judged on how we care for the poor don't apply? Think again.
Actually, no. When the Holy Family flees to Egypt, they meet the current definition of refugees: those fleeing "conflict or persecution." And the word the angel uses in Joseph's dream in Matthew (2:13) is "φεῦγε" (pheuge), from which comes the word "refugee," the one who flees.
False. God is neither Republican nor Democrat. Neither conservative nor liberal. Neither American nor Iranian. If God is on anyone's side, God is on the side of the poor.
"Trump Tells Evangelical Base: God Is 'on Our Side""
Christians should be aware of candidates who call themselves progressives. Progressive is more often a way of describing someone who favors a more just world, where the poor are helped, as Jesus asked us to do; and where those on the margins are given special care, as Jesus did.
Christians should be aware of candidates who call themselves progressive. Progressive is generally just a code word for someone who leans toward socialism, who does not believe in God, & who will likely vote against Godly principles that are so important to our nation. 2/2
Donald Trump will not be nailed to a cross. He will not die on a cross. He will not rise from the dead after three days. In case you miss the point, Donald Trump is not the Messiah, not the Savior and not Jesus. And winning the election is not the antidote to violence: love is.

I am as disgusted by the contemptuous laughter of the mass of students as I am moved by the quiet dignity of the solitary man who continues to chant. Those students could learn much from this elder, if they had chosen to. Or if they choose to.
What a disgraceful comment. Literally: without grace. Why not try understanding what forces families to flee their homes. The Secretary also knows that seeking asylum is a universal human right. This is instead a "very sad example of the dangers" of not welcoming the stranger.
Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the death of a 7-year-old girl in the custody of U.S. Border Patrol last week “is a very sad example of the dangers” migrants face when they try to illegally enter the U.S.
Good idea. I'd suggest we start with the passages that talk about welcoming the stranger, helping the poor, forgiving those who have wronged you, praying for your enemies, turning away from the love of money, embracing humility and leading a life of love, mercy and compassion.

Dehumanizing people is the same tactic used by Nazis against Jews ("rats"); Americans against Native Americans ("savages") and Japanese ("vermin"); and Hutu against Tutsi ("cockroaches"). Dehumanization means you can treat people like animals and, eventually, exterminate them...
For those who think the Pope's comments about same-sex civil unions are no big deal: Perhaps in the US or Western Europe. But in places like Poland, where some bishops are virulently anti-LGBT; or Uganda, where bishops side with laws criminalizing homosexuality, it's a big deal.
It's not a sin for Catholics to vote Democrat. It's not a sin for Catholics to vote Republican either. And Catholic leaders should steer clear of either threats or endorsements during elections. As Pope Francis said, the church is meant to help form consciences, not replace them.
"Love your neighbor," Jesus said. Then someone asked, "Who is my neighbor?" In response, Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan, where the "neighbor" turns out to be someone from from a hated group, and from another land. These three should read the parable (Lk 10:25-37). 1/
