Enrollment for pre-K and kindergarten will begin on April 2, and this year we have a new, quick, and easy online system for enrollment! No need to visit your school to enroll, the entire…

The first things that popped in my head: the pandemic, standardized testing, safety concerns, active shooter drills, knowing student loan debt is in the future, etc. We’re asking our kids to have expert level resilience. Maybe not caring is actually burn out?
Workers aren’t “quiet-quitting” to avoid burnout. They’re refusing to have their labor stolen without compensation. Idk why there are so many bad articles about this
I am so grateful to be one of the first elected members to the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners! I am proud that my neighbors across Baltimore chose me as their advocate on the board. As a mom of a future
@BaltCitySchools
student, I am going to work hard for our kids.
PSA: If you are looking for a candidate for school board with perfect grammar and spelling, I may not be your candidate. The truth? I barely graduated from high school with a 1.4 GPA (cumulative for all 4 years). It took me almost 20 years to graduate from college.🧵
WOW! Commissioner-Elect to an official Commissioner of

I was so happy to have my little family and my friend Ralikh there! Vinny did a great job & was running City Hall today! Big thank you to all the city hall staff members that were hyping him up!🤣
I learned about this case from friends on Twitter. 🙌🏽
The credit for Keith Davis, Jr.’s release should go to Kelly Davis. 💯 She worked with supporters to pressure on the legal system, media, & elected officials. She is BEYOND strong. 💪🏽
Wishing the family peace & happiness 💜

Hot take on everyone's hot takes of the
@MayorBMScott
interview. We should be normalizing people in leadership showing emotions and being "unpolished".
Empathy is not in conflict with professionalism. Also, constituents who are impacted by trauma & emotional are not "crazy".
First of all, CASA never said they supported Hamas. I hate the fact elected officials can’t make the distinction between Hamas and Palestinian civilians. The fact that you were using your power to affect the future of
@CASAforall
is proof you never viewed them as equal partners.
As a dyslexic/neurodivergent person, I wish I could read, write, or spell as fluently as other people. I know how important early interventions are. I am hoping I can bring my flaws and all to the board. I believe the students with IEPs now can be school board members someday.
Trigger warning ⚠️ Only a few people know how difficult this time was. It would have been more devastating if we missed the cut off in MD. Even here, accessing abortion is not without obstacles. The least we can do is make it a right in Maryland.
It's official!!! Thank you thank you to the 26,263 voters who believed we need

What do you do to find joy in Baltimore City?
For me: Going to Cylburn Arboretum and driving around to different neighborhoods looking at architecture, especially the ones that need TLC.
💜 At this point I think I've been to every neighborhood in the city. 😯

Stop ALL development in Baltimore, until leaders and developers bring grocery stores to KNOWN food desserts. And do NOT say the "market won't allow it" or any other nonsense. There are people there right? They eat food right?

I’m so excited to launch my new campaign video with Salimah Jasani!
Can you share this video with 5 Baltimore City voters you know, to ask them to support Ashley and me in the General Election on November 8?
Make sure they know they get two votes!
Thank you for your support!
Pet peeve: When organizations post an event less 7 days notice and then say they engaged with the "community".
Community members who are NOT plugged in need more notice. If you want real engagement, go to the community and meet them IRL. Don't ask for them to come to you.
PLEASE stop saying that parents "do not care about their children's education". Especially if you are not creating asynchronous ways for them to be involved. Parents have not changed. Their capacity has changed because of the economy.
Me and my husband carry a genetic disease. This was a very much wanted pregnancy but regardless, the “why” no ones business. I was willing to share because people like you have strong opinions and are trying to decide “whats best” for people like me.
PSA Make sure everyone you vote for in Maryland in 2022 is openly in favor of reproductive rights 💯 Having a (D) next to your name doesn't mean that they are on the same page. Also, where do the gubernatorial candidates stand on this? Tag anyone I missed below
@ChrisVanHollen
While I definitely appreciate the action, I do agree with the other comments that some of the chosen language and historical timeline is harmful. It is absolutely necessary to say that Palestinians were murdered. I’m not usually one to nitpick wording, but it’s very important to…
Instead of communities fighting against developers and ghost hedge funds in Baltimore City, how about we make it illegal in this city for them to operate? For example, what laws in need to be changed to prevent public housing units from being included in "investment portfolios".
In 6 months at my day job, I’ve secured a little over $150,000 in grants. 💫 We will be doing racial equity and culture work. We have a linkedin, merch store, & increased digital organizing. Two of us were elected into leadership roles in one of our coalitions. ❤️
New incentives to attract new BPD officers:
$5000 signing bonus
$1000/mo housing bonus if live in City
$5000 off student loan debt
(Source told me existing officers unhappy no retention incentives)
Everyone is not masked. Our small neighborhood non-profit was able to cover masks for some students. Would
@JohnsHopkins
or
@MikeBloomberg
like to match us? N95 masks are needed for students, staff, and teachers. As well as, hand soap, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes.
@Zeke_Cohen
If everyone is masked (they are), there is ventilation (there is) and regular testing (there is) it is a logistical nightmare to do testing before starting school.Omicron is not magic. These measures will prevent school from being the source of spread.
Today, 190+ local elected officials across the country released an open letter to the Biden-Harris admin & Congress calling for a ceasefire.

PSA: If you have the community involved in the planning and policy work, you'll save time. Trying to get "buy in" after a plan has been developed without community input is backwards.
Normalize funding work being done in communities. Don't pour funding into HUGE non-profits that are reinventing work already being done by community leaders.
Out of over 150 applications, I made the cut to become a member of Baltimore City’s Climate Action Plan Advisory Council 😊🌱🐝
Will be reviewing things from equity, community, momma, bee friend, and educational lens🕵🏽♀️ Thank you

After seeing the City & Poly video, I'm so sad for the kids. 💔
1. It was not a "brawl" like the news claimed
2. The two adults were acting up and rolling around like kids
3. From what I saw the students were trying to break it up
4. The adults deserve the consequences
As a parent/community member and former state employee, acronyms kill engagement. Avoid using acronyms and abbreviations to describe programs and policies. Nothing is more alienating or exclusive than people listing off terms that that you audience has to look up.

Whoa! Tracking my first 100 days as a Commissioner. 😳
This is how I've spent my time on the board. I know I haven't tracked everything, such as phone calls and texts. I've logged a over 10,000 minutes as an eager momma, advocate, and volunteer

“I am shocked with the results. This is blowing my mind,” said Esposito. “She said many of the top four candidates had been “authentic and open books. I feel like all four of us have led with our hearts.” 💜
Due to stigma in my family, I went undiagnosed until I was in my 30s. My husband is a former special education paraprofessional who helped me identify why I was struggling so bad. When I could afford to pay for testing, I did. It was life changing.🧵
City Schools celebrates Neurodiversity Celebration Week! We know the limitless potential of every student and are proud of the diversity of our students, staff, and our Board commissioners like Commissioner Ashley Esposito!

you should be ashamed of yourselves 💯 You are propping up transphobia, racism, and an overall toxic environment. You need to stop smear campaigns against those calling it out. I will name names and share receipts 🧾 The old guard in MoCo and HoCo are toxic AF
Baltimore City students beg school leaders not to cut back on virtual learning -
As the article states, I will vote against any
@CharmVirtual
recommendation that limits access to virtual learning to elementary school kids.
Hey yall!
Does anyone want to volunteer for my school board campaign? It will be a very grassroots, community, & family centered campaign.
If you can donate 1 hour of your time, from now until June, definitely sign up.
Pass it on: Permanent school closures destabilize communities. Let's fight to rehab and keep neighborhood schools in Baltimore. We need the same energy and investment other historic buildings. Also, support Stewart Hill Academy as they appeal permanent closure.
We need more poor people to be elected officials. 💯 Why do we stress fundraising to determine whether or not candidates are “viable”? As a candidate, fundraising for power feels icky because my point of reference is not wealth or privilege.
They exceeded the fundraising goal. ♥️ They are now asking for people to donate to the fundraiser that the Baltimore City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs set up this afternoon.
I know several people who went to private schools on scholarships. Being a "low-income & at-risk" student in a private school setting is not without challenges and even some trauma. Making sure that public schools are better resourced should be the priority.
📣 PUBLIC dollars should be for the PUBLIC good.

When you reach out to a community NOT represented on our school board and the lack of pay is a barrier to their participation. 🥺💔 Not including a stipend for our board members is definitely an equity issue.
Weird fact in Baltimore: Some residents do not want to join neighborhood associations because they believe associations get them fined by the city. Yikes!
Reality: If Code enforcement is called for one thing, they also go looking for other things that can also be fined.
I wish there were preventative measures to keep kids OUT of foster care: economic stability for families, free therapy for parents who have experienced trauma, free drug treatment, judgment free parenting classes, and childcare. Being in the system was traumatic on its own.
I don’t know who needs to hear this (hint hint) but monuments, statues, bridges, and other landmarks were named after certain people as a power move. I went to a women’s brunch at UB and one of the history professors was talking about how the contributions of Black women were…
Baltimore City Public Schools has admitted that they have not done a good job at being transparent about their process, providing all necessary resources, and community engagement. If you are an elected official will you call on
@BaltCitySchools
to halt all school closures?
PSA: Do not rely on community/neighborhood associations to do outreach to a whole neighborhood on your behalf. If you are an org, elected official, etc. reach out to every single resident for complete engagement.
Scary, surreal, but so necessary ❤️ I was so nervous but I told our story at the March in Annapolis today. I have to thank my partner and baby for holding me together. And the attendees that uplifted me when I needed support 🥺🙌🏽 Thank you to

Attended a community association meeting and the neighborhood attempted to build their own co-op grocery store (which is desperately needed). Unfortunately a dollar store swooped in and had the capital. I would have loved to see what they would have done with it. 😞
Had a great day at work and doing some Commissioner-Elect duties! I put in a request to be placed on the Policy and Audit Committees. My background working for state agencies, being on the wrong end of policy, and being data brained helps me think about preventative measures.
Social justice efforts should be led by people affected by injustice. Don't introduce yourself in spaces as "privileged" and then talk about the injustice affecting other people. Give up your seat immediately so they can speak for themselves.
I was only able to stay home and bond with my son due to the pandemic shutting everything down. As a society, we can do better. Every family deserves this precious bonding time without obstacles or financial hardship.

People do NOT grow out of learning disabilities or being neurodivergent. Running for office, I was scared people would judge me for my quirks or saying I may not be able to "keep up". People encouraging me from my own community has meant the world & keeps me going.💜
Last year, Baltimore City Public Schools had one 5-star school. This year, the district has two. Additionally, the number of 1-star schools decreased for City Schools while the number of 3-star schools improved. (See link below.) 📈
