Husband, father, combat veteran, Governor of the state of Maryland. Follow
@GovWesMoore
for updates. By authority: Moore for Maryland, Mary Tydings, Treasurer
The journey of this campaign is one that many saw as improbable.
But Maryland, you believed. You put in the work. And thanks to you, I am humbled to be Maryland’s next governor.
What we built together is not just a moment—it is a movement.
It is Maryland's time to lead.
Thank you, Maryland!
What an amazing night, and what an improbable journey.
I am grateful to every one of you for the hard work you put in to make tonight happen.
Today
@nypost
photoshopped me to look like a “criminal” in a story that had nothing to do with me. They confused
@RobinhoodApp
&
@robinhoodnyc
.
I’m sure retractions are forthcoming, but even if your basic facts had not been wrong, know that trafficking in cheap tropes is harmful
Right before we pulled up to Government House for the tour with
@GovLarryHogan
and First Lady Yumi Hogan. Since 1870, Maryland’s governors and their families have lived in Government House. We’re thankful that the people of Maryland have given our family the honor of being next.
I defied the odds to become a Rhodes Scholar, Army officer & CEO.
Now, I'm announcing my run for Maryland Governor.
Because I believe no matter our start—we all deserve an equal opportunity to succeed.
I'd be humbled by your support→
#MooreforMaryland
Congratulations to my friend
@ReverendWarnock
on his victory tonight!
Your leadership on Capitol Hill, from the pulpit, and in communities is truly remarkable and I look forward to your continued service to the people of Georgia and our nation.
Lots of upset folks are confused about this today. I’m proudly CEO of
@RobinHoodNYC
, one of the largest antipoverty nonprofits in the U.S.
We are completely unaffiliated with the
@RobinhoodApp
.
I have to respond here. Baltimore, the place
@realDonaldTrump
says “no human being would want to live” is my home. It is the place that helped raise me, the place I still very proudly call home, the place where I’m raising my children. (Thread.)
Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!
I want you to see what I saw today as I was inaugurated as the 63rd governor of Maryland.
This is our state in all its beauty.
And this is who I’ll fight for every single day that I have the honor of being your governor.
Tonight, we are thinking of
@jamie_raskin
following his diagnosis.
Rep. Raskin embodies what it means to persevere in the face of overwhelming challenges.
My friend, we are praying for you and we know you will overcome this challenge as you have the rest.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job.
Last week, I lost my grandmother.
Her name was Winell Thomas and we called her Mama Win.
She was born in Cuba, and immigrated to this country from Jamaica. She taught public school for nearly 40 years. She came here to build a life, and she ended up building a legacy.
Many may be surprised by what
@AndyBeshearKY
pulled off tonight.
I’m not.
Governor Beshear has never forgotten who he fights for — the people of Kentucky. Every decision he makes is rooted in a mission to uplift and strengthen the people of his state.
Congratulations friend!
Thank you,
@barackobama
, for setting an example for honest, principled leadership. Thank you for inspiring millions to serve. Happy birthday, Mr. President.
This morning I was grateful to meet with
@GovLarryHogan
to discuss our Transition.
We’re proud to work with the Governor’s Office to facilitate a smooth and peaceful transition into our administration to begin serving the people of Maryland.
This is how our democracy works.
Maryland, last night you showed that if we stand divided, we cannot win—but if we stand united, we cannot lose.
I am humbled and ready to be your next governor.
My name is Wes Moore.
The son of an immigrant.
A combat veteran.
A proud graduate of a junior college.
And I’m fighting for a Maryland where we leave no one behind.
His service didn’t matter. His uniform didn’t matter. His calm demeanor didn’t matter. This abuse of position and power is an affront to the oath to serve and protect.
To anyone who wants to attack women's freedoms in Maryland – you'll have to go through me first.
I'm a combat vet who's fought for our freedoms.
Here's my promise to the women of Maryland: As governor, I'll always fight to protect your freedoms and rights.
I will defend and ride for my city and my people in every way that I can, because countless Baltimoreans, including and especially
@RepCummings
have shown us what real leadership looks like.
In 4 days,
@ArunaMiller
’s mom and my mom – immigrants from India and Jamaica who came to this country for a better life – will watch their children sworn in as the next Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.
Their story is an American story.
Tonight, the Commonwealth of Virginia made its voice heard.
They rejected the MAGA agenda in favor of leaders who will fight for their communities, protect abortion rights, fund public education, stand up for voting rights, and more.
Congratulations VA!
On Wednesday I will be sworn in as governor on Frederick Douglass’ Bible and my grandfather’s Bible.
Douglass was a proud Marylander and as your next governor, I will work every day to carry on his legacy of fighting for justice and equality.
Today, my kids will watch a Black woman sworn in as Vice President of the United States. And this moment will be just as important for my son to watch as my daughter. Thank you
@KamalaHarris
.
On behalf of my family and my incredible running mate
@ArunaMiller
, THANK YOU.
The stakes could not be higher, but together, we'll meet this moment with urgency and leadership. Maryland WILL be a state where we leave no one behind.
#MooreForMaryland
It is also important to know the Baltimore is the birthplace and settling ground of some of the most discriminatory and separationist policies that our nation has ever deployed against its black citizens.
To my dear friend Oprah Winfrey — a Maryland girl at heart — thank you for your gracious and generous introduction. And thank you for always being in my corner.
Don’t use the reality – the intentional neglect – of so many of our young people in my city as a punchline or clickbait. Especially when you have no idea of their potential of promise. I am, and so many others are, living proof of that.
I want to wish all of my fellow veterans a blessed Veterans Day.
Those of us who have put on the uniform of this country know what it means to serve and to sacrifice.
So I say thank you for your service. Know that Maryland will be a state that honors and uplifts our veterans.
People sometimes say to me “You're the first Black Rhodes Scholar in the history of Johns Hopkins University and the ring you wear is from your two-year college?”
That's right – because it's my foundation.
The Moore family had a wonderful afternoon touring Government House with
@GovLarryHogan
and the First Lady!
We're excited for this next chapter in our new home and to be of service to the people of Maryland.
This photo
@woolstonphoto
took of my son James and me as we reviewed my speech on election night was highlighted by
@CNN
as one of their photos of the year.
This moment was truly worth a thousand words.
Tonight
@DawnFlytheMoore
, Mia, James, and I welcome a new member of our family: Tucker Balti Moore!
Thank you to
@MDSPCA
for helping us adopt our new energetic family member. We can’t wait to run through Government House and the streets of Annapolis with Tucker!
I know what it feels like to be told you can’t do something—it’s happened all my life. And,
@JoeBiden
is no stranger to that.
But, I’m here to tell you, he knows what endures.
He knows what created this country, what built it up, and what will make it last.
Today, I am proud to announce my endorsement of County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to be Maryland’s next United States Senator! Angela is a fighter. Angela is a leader. Angela is a public servant in every beautiful sense of that phrase.
Tonight I was proud to stand with Maryland leaders and President
@JoeBiden
in a display of unity.
The stakes couldn't be higher, but together we will win this election and this moment.
Our movement is strong. We'll build a state where we leave no one behind.
#MooreForMaryland
We will protect abortion rights and access and empower women to make decisions about their own reproductive health.
The decision to get an abortion is difficult, but in our Maryland, that decision will be between a woman and her doctor.
19 schools in Baltimore are closing early in the extreme heat today because they don't have air conditioning.
This is unacceptable.
When I'm governor, we'll ensure every student receives a world-class public education in a 21st century building. And that includes AC.
And while Donald Trump is fighting for his own freedoms, he’ll work to take away ours — abortion rights, health care, the freedom to vote.
I’ll work every day to make sure he doesn’t get that chance again.
Gov. Moore: Over the next 10 months, we're going to watch Donald Trump fighting for his future, but one thing we're not going to see is him fighting for any of ours
Maryland, our promise to you is this:
We will lead with love.
We will lead with compassion.
We will lead with partnership.
And we will lead with faith.
Redlining, discriminatory real estate covenants, racist lending policies, uneven policing practices. The chronic underinvestment in our city is immeasurable.
We begin inauguration day by gathering here at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley memorial in Annapolis to lay a wreath.
It is here where two centuries ago, enslaved people arrived in this country against their will.
President
@BarackObama
embodies leadership and service. I am truly humbled to have his endorsement.
Early voting starts Thursday and election day is just 14 days away.
Maryland, let’s vote like our future depends on it – because it does.
We need a full moratorium on evictions, rent increases, and utlility shut offs until this crisis is fully resolved and its effects on vulnerable communities are understood and addressed. That’s true in New York City and across the country (2/2).
Maryland’s future is so bright it is blinding.
We will be intentional, inclusive, and disciplined in seizing the opportunities in front of us.
Our future starts right now.
I am grateful because you believed.
You believed that in this moment our state could be bolder.
And you believed in the son of an immigrant, a graduate of a two-year college, a US Army combat veteran, and a non-profit leader who had never run for office before.
I spoke with
@TomPerez
earlier this afternoon and commended him for his hard-fought and principled campaign. I look forward to working with him to unite the party and win this critical election for Maryland families.
We launched our campaign to deliver jobs, justice, and opportunity to Maryland. I'm so proud of all we accomplished and incredibly thankful for our dedicated supporters and staff.
Today, I congratulate
@iamwesmoore
on a hard-fought victory. My statement:
I am grateful above all to my family.
Most of all my amazing wife, Dawn, the next First Lady of Maryland.
Dawn, you are my fuel and my motivation. My greatest protector and my best friend.
13 years ago today you said “I do.” And for 13 years you have been everything and more. I stand because you lift. And I will always love you.

I want to be clear: Abortion remains legal in Maryland as does abortion medication. The right to choose is exactly that — a right. And in our Maryland, we will always defend that right.
Please help me wish Mama Win, my grandmother, a very happy 94th birthday! When my dad died when I was just 3, this amazing woman and my late grandfather took me, my sisters, and my mom in. I’m so grateful and proud to be her grandson 🙏🏾
My heart breaks for the victims of the mass shooting in Monterey, California on the eve of Lunar New Year.
We must root out hate and ensure no one has to live in fear of violence due to ethnicity or faith.
I’m praying for the families and all those affected by this tragedy.
Thank you for the warm welcome, Virginia!
If there’s one thing I learned across the Commonwealth it’s that your energy and drive are going to bring this home for you on Tuesday!
March on till victory is won!
21 years ago today — May 11, 1998 — I commissioned as an Officer in the U.S. Army. If I only knew how my service would shape my life. Leading soldiers, becoming a paratrooper, deploying to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne ... all learnings and lessons that I use every day.
Congratulations to
@jamie_raskin
on his election as ranking member of the Oversight and Reform Committee next term!
Thank you for the leadership and integrity you bring to Maryland and our nation!
We’ve been asked to accept that in order for some to win, others must lose.
We must refuse to accept that.
Instead, I am asking you to believe that Maryland can be different.
That Maryland can be bold.
That Maryland can lead.
I am proud that Maryland is home to the Naval Academy, which produces some of our country’s best warriors, scholars, and public servants.
And as Governor, I will be their champion for 364 days a year…
But today,
#GoArmyBeatNavy
🏈
Today I take the oath of office on two bibles: The bible of Frederick Douglass and the bible of my grandfather, Rev. James Thomas.
They embody what it means to be a leader and what it means to be an American.
As governor, I am committed to carrying on their legacies.
The
#CentralPark5
. This should be a greater part of American history. They were boys when they were taken from their homes, forced to confess to a crime they had nothing to do with. Every racist narrative was thrown at them. Every flaw in the system leveraged to upend their lives
Anyone who thinks abortion rights aren't on the ballot in 2024 is delusional.
President Biden made the stakes perfectly clear last night. And you better believe that under my leadership, Maryland will be on the frontlines of this fight for our freedoms.
Last night I sat down with
@TrevorNoah
on
@TheDailyShow
to discuss our movement that reached every corner of Maryland and my thoughts on patriotism.
I’ve seen real patriotism when I served in Afghanistan and from my own family. No one group has a monopoly on patriotism.
Maryland voters have the opportunity to legalize recreational marijuana on the ballot this November.
As governor, I will fight to expunge the records of those arrested for marijuana possession.
I met John McCain at 17, about to join the Army. I’ve never forgotten his simple advice: “take care of your soldiers.” No matter your politics, he brought that integrity and spirit to his entire career, in and out of uniform. Rest In Peace, sir; and thank you.
You believed in the son of an immigrant.
A graduate of a two-year college.
A U.S. Army combat veteran.
And a nonprofit leader who had never run for office before.
It’s because you believed that I stand here humbled and ready to become the 63rd governor of Maryland.
As I told
@thereval
yesterday in Georgia, Black support is going to consolidate around President Biden because President Biden has always made our interests a priority.
Words can't convey how blessed I feel that my 95-year-old grandmother is here and able to cast her vote for me to become the next governor of the state of Maryland.
Mama Win, I would not be here without you, I am so proud to be your grandson, and I stand on your shoulders.
My name is Wes Moore.
The son of an immigrant.
A combat veteran.
A proud graduate of a junior college.
And I’m fighting for a Maryland where we leave no one behind.
Let me speak for a moment about history.
We’ve had a lot of firsts tonight:
Aruna Miller, the first immigrant and first woman of color to serve as Lieutenant Governor.
Brooke Lierman, our first female comptroller.
Anthony Brown, our first black Attorney General.
Happy

@apa1906NETwork
! 116 years of service. I am always proud to stand with my brotherhood of leaders.
First of all, servants of all, we shall transcend all.

Looking back on Inauguration Day one of the highlights was meeting these remarkable young men from
@Boys2college
. I told them to remember that there is never a room they don’t belong in.
It was an absolute joy to meet you all and thank you for the beautiful gift.
With the historic investments made in our budget, we plan to be bold without being reckless.
This budget will impact every community in Maryland, and will put us on track to create a Maryland where no one is left behind.
