This is our moment to build back better.
Please follow me at
@SecretaryPete
and
@USDOT
for the latest updates on how we’re transforming our nation’s transportation future.
I’m honored to serve as Secretary of Transportation and help build the kind of infrastructure that creates jobs, empowers all, and keeps travelers & workers safe.
It’s time to get to work.
Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents. We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family.
For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We’re overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents! The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can’t wait to share more soon.
Having my husband
@Chasten
by my side yesterday in a hearing room is something not seen before for a Cabinet nominee. And our hope is that it makes it easier for the next person to come along.
This is a moment of tremendous opportunity—to create jobs, meet the climate challenge, and enhance equity for all.
I'm honored that the President-elect has asked me to serve our nation as Secretary of Transportation.
If you’re a politician or media figure who sets up the LGBTQ community to be hated and feared - not because any of us ever harmed you but because you find it useful - then don’t you dare act surprised when this kind of violence follows.
Don’t you dare act surprised.
Why is Lindsey Graham refusing to take a Covid test? Is the President still on steroids? Where is the Vice President?
How much better off would the USA be if we didn’t have to worry about questions like this?
Can’t believe we even have to say this, but: if you just went to the Senate floor and blocked benefits for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving our country in a war zone, you are wrong.
How refreshing that our president-elect is already at work to unite and heal - ready to serve everyone who voted for this ticket, and everyone who didn’t.
Thank you for inviting me into your homes, sharing your stories, and putting your trust in me. We launched our campaign because Americans are hungry for a new kind of politics that brings us together.
And together we'll beat this president and build the era that must come next.
If someone you love and care about voted the other way, today might be a good day to reach out. Not to talk politics, but to talk about things that will remind them (and yourself) why you love and care about them.
Our country is under attack from white nationalist terrorism, inspiring murder on our soil and abetted by weak gun laws. If we are serious about national security, we must summon the courage to name and defeat this evil.
Picture waking up that first day the sun rises when Donald Trump is no longer president—and
@JoeBiden
is in the White House.
Let's work to make that happen.
To GOP operatives working overtime to disqualify votes from deployed troops because you think it helps your guy: look in the mirror and ask yourself how it came to this.
Waiting is hard. That's as normal and human as it gets. But we're waiting because so many people voted and because election workers are carefully ensuring that every vote is counted properly—and that is a good thing.
It should not be hard, especially today, for every elected official and media personality in America—left, right, and center—to unequivocally condemn white nationalism, “replacement theory,” and all that comes with it.
Our Constitution is a living document because it requires real people to interpret laws written in a living language.
If it were self-evident, judges would be unnecessary.
Interpretation matters.

I'm thrilled she's joining the ticket and can't wait to call her my Vice President.
Doing a quick bit of laundry. Hear loud scream. Run into kitchen terrified, expecting to see
@Chas10Buttigieg
in pool of blood. Am thereupon informed that
@Lin_Manuel
is following my husband, whose life is now complete.
When a president (who faked a disability in order to avoid serving) attacks a departed war hero, it’s for attention.
We should honor the late Senator McCain, and also follow his example by focusing not on the behavior of the president but on the future of our country.
After 9/11 we all said we were changed. That we were stronger and more united. That’s what “never forget” was about. Now, a president uses that dark day to incite his base against a member of Congress, as if for sport. As if we learned nothing that day about the workings of hate.
Words have consequences, especially the words of a president and his allies. Today those consequences include violent rioters attacking our Capitol to overthrow the American democratic process. This must end, and democracy must prevail.
I don’t expect Mike Pence to come around. Yet, it is still jarring that a man rooted in faith and scripture would punch the clock every day for a boss whose conduct flies in the face of every notion, liberal and conservative, of basic morality and decency.
Today we have heard from an American majority ready for change, eager for something so much better than what we've been living with these last four years.
VP Pence does not wear a mask during Tuesday’s visit to the Mayo Clinic, which is requiring all patients and visitors to wear a face covering or mask in effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
You know it’s getting twisted when Ted Cruz decides to vindicate constitutional originalism by... amending the Constitution to overwrite the founders’ vision for how to set up the Supreme Court.
The president’s confession yesterday is stunning. He has now openly admitted to an agenda of undermining America’s postal system in order to make it harder for Americans to vote.
The first rule of economics during a pandemic is you’ve got to fix the pandemic before the economy can get better.
@JoeBiden
understands this—but Donald Trump still does not.
