19th Secretary of Transportation. Working to ensure safety and make transportation more equitable while fighting climate change and creating jobs. (he/him)
Our department just issued rules to protect people from hidden airline fees and to require airlines to give passengers automatic cash refunds when owed. No more having to fend for yourself and jump through hoops to get your money back—airlines will have to automatically do this.

Distracted driving comes in many forms, but texting and cell phone use while driving is the number one form of distracted driving. Put your phone away when behind the wheel.
Yesterday marks a major milestone toward fully reopening the Port of Baltimore by the end of May – the first large cargo ships traveling through the channel since the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed.

As part of DOT’s ongoing work to ease supply chain disruptions at the Port of Baltimore, our team worked with Tradepoint Atlantic to use a federal grant to lay down pavement and bring in additional cargo. Great to see this construction well underway.

FTC's non-competes ban is a huge victory for workers. The rule makes it illegal for your employer to stick these terms in the fine print of your contract that stop you from switching jobs. DOT strongly supports these protections.
1. Today
@FTC
issued a final rule banning noncompetes for workers across the country.
The rule will ensure that Americans have the freedom to pursue a new job, start a new business, or bring a new idea to market.
Saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. He was a pleasure to work with and a widely respected leader whose work helped shape transportation policy in America for the better. My thoughts are with his wife, Bea, and their three children.
Today's announcement is historic, but we are not stopping here. Our department continues work on additional passenger protections and we continue to investigate airlines for a number of potential violations of consumer law.
🎉 Big change from
@USDOT
:
If your flight gets delayed or canceled, airlines now have to refund you automatically in CASH.
Refunds cover:
- Delayed flights (3+hrs domestic, 6+ hrs int’l)
- Airport changes
- Added connections
- Service class downgrade
- Accessibility changes
Too often, airlines drag their feet on refunds or rip folks off with junk fees.
It's time Americans got a better deal.
Today, my Administration is requiring that airlines provide automatic refunds to passengers when they're owed, and protect them from surprise fees.
The Department of Transportation is rolling out new rules that will require airlines to automatically give cash refunds to passengers for cancelled and significantly delayed flights.
