A massive thank you to all of our first responders, elected officials, and support staff who mobilized today immediately following the Key Bridge collapse. Baltimore is strong, Maryland is strong and together we will help our communities recover from this unthinkable tragedy.
The outpouring of love and support that our city has seen means the world to me. I want everyone to know that we will reopen, we will rebuild, and we will heal together and in the right way.
What we’re seeing on Capitol Hill today is an attack on our democracy and an act of treason. This is what white supremacy looks like.
I have spoken to DC
@MayorBowser
to offer our assistance. Baltimore stands ready to support our sister city.
Baltimore, I am officially declaring a local state of emergency in response to the collapse of our Key Bridge. Our teams are mobilizing resources and working swiftly to address this crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
#Baltimore

Thank you, Mr. President! Your administration's support has been invaluable, and I have no doubt that you will provide every resource possible as we work to rebuild the Key Bridge and our communities hearts together.
This morning, I spoke with Governor Moore, Mayor Scott, and County Executive Olszewski.
I made clear that we'll send any federal resource they need as we respond to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and rebuild together.
Tonight, we celebrate a hard-fought victory for the future of Baltimore. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank my family, my team, our volunteers, those who voted for a new way forward for Baltimore, and everyone who believes change is not just possible, but long overdue.
Hey
@MLB
here in Baltimore we strongly support voting rights as do our beloved
@orioles
. We'd love to host the All Star game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards the ballpark that inspired them all. Remember how great it was the last time?
Breaking: MLB is moving the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta, the league announced.
"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box," Commissioner Rob Manfred said.
Tonight the United States Coast Guard, the Maryland State Police, and the Baltimore City Fire Department announced we have shifted from a search and rescue operation to a recovery operation. We will resume recovery operations in the morning.
Picked up a double platter of the best crabcake in the city from Koko's Pub for dinner tonight with a side of Koko's mask and some extra health messaging. Love my city 🤣🤣🤣

Grateful to be with these heroes today.
And grateful to spend some time with some of the unparalleled
@BaltimoreFire
divers who have been hard at work this week.
Rather than relying solely on status quo "solutions" and
#MAGA
talking points, how about actually meeting with me to discuss violent crime, gun trafficking, or restarting the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council — as I've asked before?
@GovLarryHogan
, I'm ready when you are.
The increase of violent crime in Baltimore City is unacceptable. Rather than defunding our police, we need to invest more in law enforcement, pass better laws to hold violent criminals accountable, and we need prosecutors who will actually prosecute those laws.
We remain on site managing the Key Bridge Collapse incident, especially the ongoing search & rescue effort.
This is a multi-jurisdiction, multi-agency effort with federal, state, and local resources mobilizing.
We will continue to make updates throughout the day.
Spending the day continuing to help coordinate response this morning, especially with our dedicated dive teams and first responders who are continuing the recovery work.
I'm aware of and en route to the incident at the Key Bridge. I have been in contact with
@BaltimoreFire
Chief Wallace,
@GovWesMoore
@JohnnyOJr
, and
@AACoExec
. Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway.
I asked my staff and they told me not to buttttttttt
@POTUS
@realDonaldTrump
unless you are bringing resources and addressing economic, racial, and environmental injustices in my city.
🗣KEEP BALTIMORE OUT OF YOUR MOUTH
Being elected mayor is the honor of a lifetime, and I could not have done it without you. Thank you to all the volunteers & supporters. Most of all, thank you to the voters of Baltimore. Tonight, we embark on a new way forward for our city together.
In service,
Mayor-Elect BMS
This morning, we had a briefing with
@USCG
,
@MDSP
,
@USACEBaltimore
, and numerous other agencies as we move into the salvage phase of this effort.
The teams are continuing to work around the clock to handle the on water scene in the safest way possible.
GREAT NEWS! I am joining Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.
Baltimore is the birthplace of redlining, and inequalities have been exacerbated by this pandemic. To ensure the economic security and dignity of our residents, we must be willing to invest in bold solutions.
Young people, I did this for you. Never let anyone discourage you. The impossible is possible. Let this race remind you that you can reach for the stars and achieve your dreams. You are destined for greatness and our city needs you. I love you and will not let you down.
Today I announced that Baltimore will explore purchasing hotels to provide non-congregate housing for people and families experiencing homelessness. Safe, high-quality facilities for our vulnerable communities is my top priority. Full announcement:
Today's tragedy at the Key Bridge is distressing for all of us. If you feel anxious, sad, or just need to talk it through with someone, call or text 988. It’s free and counselors are available 24/7.
Today's tragedy at the Francis Scott Key Bridge is heartbreaking for all of us and could be triggering for some.
If you need to talk it through with someone, call or text 988.
Today I had to say good bye to my best friend of 14 plus Wonderful Years
@sircharlesofbaltimore
after a valiant fight with heart failure. Two days before I graduated college a tiny little Brown Yorkie was dropped off in a crate and we were a team since.
Thanks our
@USCG
partners — especially the crew of CG Cutter James Rankin — for allowing me,
@GovWesMoore
,
@LtGovMiller
,
@BaltCoExec
, &
@AACoExec
to observe the work being done on the water today.
Every agency is coordinating in non-ideal conditions and will continue to do so.
Wrong. I've told any and everybody that we want it on
@SNFonNBC
because that's where it belongs! While they're at it, they can go ahead flex the final game against _____burgh too. We want the smoke!
🚨Dolphins/Ravens Scheduling Info🚨
A friend inside the mayor's office in Baltimore told me that Mayor Brandon Scott & the police commissioner approached the Ravens & the NFL when the schedule was released & asked NOT to Flex the Game to Sunday Night because of security concerns…
After today’s briefing at Unified Command, we announced the first pieces of bridge span are being removed by the salvage teams, who are working diligently to ensure safety for everyone involved.
But we will never forget to center the human impact of this unthinkable tragedy.
As my last moments serving on the Baltimore City Council comes to a close, I take a moment to reflect. These last 9 years have been the most fulfilling of my life.
Despite the treasonous actions at the U.S. Capitol, let's not forget what also happened yesterday:
The election of
@JoeBiden
&
@KamalaHarris
was officially certified.
Georgia elected its first Black Senator
@ReverendWarnock
and first Jewish Senator
@Ossoff
.
Congratulations to
@ReverendWarnock
on this monumental victory. This is not just a win. This is American history - BLACK history. We are on our way to a better future in this country, not just for some, but for all. ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Baltimore, we’re not out of the woods yet. Far too many of our neighbors are dying. Until this pandemic is behind us, the safest action you can take for yourself and your neighbors is to wear your mask on your face and over your nose.

My heart is broken with the loss of my friend Dante Barksdale, someone who committed his life to saving lives in Baltimore. I'm devastated by the loss of my Brother and will not let those who chose to violently take his life dampen the light of his work.
This is Hana, Mayor Brandon Scott’s fiancé, here along with baby Charm!
Today is Brandon’s birthday! I have a favor to ask you with the election being 36 days away!
Will you donate $40 today to support Brandon for his 40th birthday?
.
@MayorBMScott
has asked the Governor to ensure more Covid vaccine for older City residents
Today the Governor, at new vaccine site at M &T Bank Stadium, dismissed the question..saying City has gotten "far more than they are really entitled to"
City Health got 3500 doses for week
I don't care what it is over no dispute that starts at a beauty salon should end in a 14 year old being shot. And every grown person who saw and knows what happened should be lining up to tell us. It could have been your daughter, sister or granddaughter.

Look who I bumped into as I was walking onto the Whitehouse grounds today! It's always good to see my Governor! The partnership between President Biden,
@govwesmoore
, and myself is real and meaningful!
@POTUS
@JoeBiden
@iamwesmoore
Baltimore I am deeply humbled by all the well wishes I've received since being sworn in as Council President yesterday. Though I may try I will not be able to respond to them all, but know that every text, email, call, tweet, inbox message and car horn honk truly touched me.
I would like to congratulate President
@JoeBiden
and Vice President
@KamalaHarris
on their inauguration as leaders of our country. This is a momentous occasion for all Americans. I look forward to partnering with this Admin for the benefit of Baltimoreans over the next 4 years.
No better way to celebrate my birthday and
@Orioles
Opening Day than throwing out the first pitch alongside
@SecMartyWalsh
. Hands down, Camden Yards is the best ballpark in America!
#LetsGoOs
Don't be a clown. Stay at home for the Super Bowl! The decisions you make have an impact on our entire community as we navigate this
#COVID19
pandemic.
Thankful to all of the first responders who have helped bring Maynor Suazo-Sandoval home to his family. We will continue to support these families, bring them closure, and provide whatever they need to persevere through this unthinkable tragedy.
Thank you to
@CNN
for having me this morning to talk about what it means for
@POTUS
to visit our city, and why federal support for this recovery isn’t just for Baltimore, but for our whole country.
Last night, we were blessed with the healthy and safe arrival of baby Charm. Both Hana and Charm are doing great, and we are very excited for this next chapter in our lives. I'm looking forward to the new adventure of being a dad.
Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes.
Tonight I’ll be representing the great state of Maryland during roll call at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. I will recognize great Marylanders like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, and cast the delegates for the next President of the United States, Joe Biden.
Easter Sunday reminds us of the power of hope and faith. In Baltimore this week, we have suffered a tragedy like one we have never seen. Let us continue to pray for the families, those working to bring the missing home, and those working to remove wreckage and open the channel.
This evening, I invite you to join me and Faith Leaders from across the city in a moment of unity and solace in response to this morning’s tragic event. Together, we can find comfort and strength in our shared community.
Grateful to
@POTUS
for being here in Baltimore today to talk about building our city back stronger than before and supporting everyone impacted by this unthinkable tragedy.
President Biden has done more than any other president in my lifetime to tackle the epidemic of gun violence, and I’m proud to have
@POTUS
as a partner in this work.
He’s doing everything in his power — now we need Congress to do everything in their’s.
Licensed gun dealers in America must run background checks on their customers.
But not every gun dealer who ought to be licensed is licensed.
Today, my Administration is clarifying when folks must get their license and run background checks, and ensuring that gun show and…

This afternoon, I signed my first bill into law as Mayor. The COVID-19 Restaurant, Consumer, and Gig Worker Relief Act puts a temporary limit on 3rd party delivery service fees, offering our already strained restaurants much needed support and relief.
Today, we joined
@USCG
again to view the salvage operation close-up.
These images give you a look at the extent of the efforts ahead. While some salvage equipment has arrived, this operation is massive and extremely complex.

Not surprising that they forgot to include the people impacted by this crisis.
It’s not just physical structure — it’s tens of thousands of families that need to put food on their tables.
In light of the SCOTUS decision, I am dedicating $300,000 to support organizations that offer abortion and family planning services here in Baltimore. We will continue to be a haven, and provide safe and consistent access to individuals seeking care.
The death of Tyre Nichols is a stark reminder of the brutality that Black people continue to face daily in this country and how much work remains for us to value Black American lives.
Please see letter from my colleagues and I to
@MayorPugh50
. We strongly believe that for the sake of Baltimore
@MayorPugh50
should resign from office.
Some teams are just in cities and others are truly a part of their city. Much love to the

Thanks to
@edokeefe
&
@FaceTheNation
for having me.
The human impact of this unthinkable tragedy remains our first priority — supporting the families of those we lost and addressing the effects this will have on Baltimore.
And we will remain focused on the mission at hand.
Baltimore will continue to be guided by the science. I remain committed to ensuring recovery efforts are administered through an equitable lens that prioritizes the people and places hardest hit by COVID-19.
I was honored to provide opening remarks for tonight’s
@CNN
Town Hall with
@POTUS
. I encourage everyone to tune in and learn more about the Build Back Better agenda. The nation is on the right path, and your president has a true partner in your mayor and the City of Baltimore.
