My (slowly updating) substack, 'The Book of Golden Life', or Orthobook, is about looking how we can ignite the immortality of our lives, through a systematic look at its different aspects.
You can find it here:
The anti-DEI discourse has actually highlighted why we need such programs to exist.
Privilege is about who gets the benefit of the doubt. Who gets fired versus who gets a second chance because it was an “honest mistake”.
DEI programs are an attempt to right the imbalance.
"Why are the American national labs silent about LK99?!" (mostly)
Well, my bet is because someone at the DOE sat some dudes down and said "figure this shit out and keep your mouth shut".
So…heartbeat bills. A particularly insidious piece of conservative propaganda. At six weeks there's no "heart"; the heartbeat "sound" is actually added by the ultrasound machine to interpret pulses.

He is:
1. Disengaged with household and social obligations
2. Doesn't show appreciation
3. Doesn't listen to her instructions when she does the planning
4. Goes into extreme hyperbole when criticized

Okay, so I'm going to tell you why I'm bullish about this. (1/n)
Background: I did very poorly at my upper graduate level finite element courses but that puts me above 99% of twitter.
National Lab (LBNL) results support LK-99 as a room-temperature ambient-pressure superconductor.
Simulations published 1 hour ago on arxiv support LK-99 as the holy grail of modern material science and applied physics.

@RokoMijic
A woman who has a salary, takes care of cooking and cleaning, and does social organization, and is disappointed you can't even live up to the bitesized tasks she breaks off for you?
I'm sure.
Most of my big life decisions right now account for a belief there's a significant chance that the US ceases to be functional in the next 20 years as a federation, and ceases even in name to exist in my lifetime, and how to hedge against that.
MacKenzie Scott just gave $20M to a nonprofit grift run by one of the worst hard left trolls on Twitter, and Dean Preston's right hand.
Not doing research on nonprofits means that people who hurt San Francisco get a huge payday.
You're right, billionaires are ruining SF.
I appreciated all the warm messages while I was suspended. I also definitely appreciate the efforts to help me get reinstated.
Ortho's back, tell a friend.
Two of my old gaming buddies became bitcoin millionaires -
One from becoming a major bitcoin dev, the other from going to prison for six years and not being able to spend his 2011 era drug earnings
There are a lot of quote tweets talking about how the larger bullet is designed for "maximum pain".
There is so much wrong but
What...is their model of what bullets are meant to do, here?
First.
Got the job! This is the one I pushed past no originally, and is a potential substantial growth position.
Sheer unbridled relief and joy.
Second!
They want to know what would make me accept immediately instead of waiting for an offer from the other place I interviewed.
So there's this whole idea of exposing yourself to other cultures from reading their fiction.
As much as I love the themes around personal growth and immortality, I have never been so horrified as in what is considered within the bounds of normalcy in Chinese serial fiction.
the more I think about this actually, the more I recognize a general trend. why is Chinese moral reasoning so simplistic?
I know that sounds uncharitable, but think about it for a second. it’s unsubtle and uncomplicated in the definition of right and wrong. why?
People are massively in denial about the impact height has on the male dating market. It's absurd.
I didn't even let it affect me that much, but the amount I've seen people reject it as a factor is hilarious.
So, I know it's become a joke phrase, but the articles in Playboy (repacking my dad's collection from some boxes falling apart) were substantially smarter than a lot of mainstream writing today.
Last night my father, of blessed memory, passed away peacefully in his sleep, after a life of living with intent, adventure, virtue, and greatness.
A lot of you have read this thread about my dad. I hope it's brought - or brings - inspiration and color into your life.
My wife got promoted to senior engineer but unlike all the insane shit she posts on the timeline she's too shy to brag about this one.
So here's to you, 👑

That's why I'm excited. If we assume we're not getting many false positives in simulation space, and we're seeing an alignment between simulation and theory, you have two very low probability outcomes aligning.
Bullish.
Going to be honest. After the organ harvesting thing, I'm pretty close to saying we should cut trade with China, period (and if you disagree--when would you have cut trade to Nazi Germany?)
This may be somewhat controversial for people currently in the focus but:
The schools of resentment currently driving the insanity at universities and tech etc. simply have Israel as a convenient target. They absolutely do hate "Western" civilization.
If I could go back six months to tell myself about interviewing my

piece of feedback would be "write out a list of vaguely pieced together autobiographical stories to map to behavioral interviews and memorize them"
If I went back two years, it would be "network harder"
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
The Habsburg household celebrated 🦃 Thanksgiving🦃 with Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, greens and a 🎃pumpkin pie🎃 (note the FALL LEAVES!)
We even had an 🇺🇸American guest who said he could attest this was the REAL DEAL!

It's also a slap in the face to teacher expertise, professionalism, and integrity. Nobody second-guesses and overrules their plumbers, accountants, doctors, electricians, mechanics, contractors, lawyers, or even restaurant servers like this.
Let's be clear: we have already almost certainly started negotiating deals to sell the Taliban guns for when the Chinese go into Afghanistan.
Don't be surprised.
I might be radicalized by, of all things, visiting Italy.
This dinner, in the heart of Rome, set us back 55€. That's a full bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, sparkling water, cover charge, and two large pizzas that back home would be 25 a piece and not taste as good
Happy to share that

has safely delivered our daughter into the world, and that she is a hale and hearty heiress. As far as Twitter is concerned we'll treat today as her birthday.
Meet 'Prima'
100% serious question: if you don't believe in interest for lending (i.e. literally no interest, not a more moderate view), do you believe that a lot of lending shouldn't happen, that opportunity cost of capital is made up, or some third thing?
Ortho job status:
Big firm disqualified itself via smell of politics around revenue attribution to the team I'd join + considering Oracle as aspirational comparison
Small firm articulated growth # s and why they expect to continue...and increased offer
Taking latter offer.
Betterhelp just gave me an advertisement on YouTube that started with a 20s/30s woman saying "I've been in therapy since I was six years old. My parents wanted me to be emotionally intelligent, and I am."
This was treated as a positive opening message.
Insanity.

someone who is good at time management please help I have no time for my hobbies
Today in absurd experiences: we occasionally pay a service for housecleaning. I went downstairs just now and one of them is napping on the floor of the master bedroom.
The journey to 585 deadlift continues! Tonight I managed to nail at 510x4 deadlift. The last one was a struggle, but I pulled it off. BIG NUMBERS.
Feeling pretty good, so have some progress pics (taken immediately post-lift).
A lot of software devs do not appreciate that, while the technical interview process is certainly a grind, the fact you have clearly defined problems to tackle that set you apart from your peers is itself a blessing.
For the querulous bluechecks worried about the end of Pax Americana, you cannot maintain American (state) power without an American people fully invested - and thus seeing some kind of return - in it.
And I mean the people who go to war and pay taxes.
Act accordingly.
I have solved yimby discourse
Federal law that every city has a skyline that follows the silhouette in the picture (radially).
You have to pay a tax for every foot below or above the target skyline.
Suburbs extend forever, as is appropriate.

In this case it does. This means that we get a simulation that spits out superconducting properties that -just so happens- to align with this mystery material!
The branch has not been broken.
I will have an heir to pass my name and the immortality of my paternal line through.
@ouranometrian2
and I will be blessed with a second child, and he will grow side by side with my best friend's son.
May the tree of life grow forevermore.
I condemn the horrific acts we are seeing unfold today in Israel against children, women, the elderly, and the unarmed people who are being slaughtered and taken hostage by Hamas. Such senseless violence will only repeat the back and forth cycle we've seen, which we cannot allow
Commentary:
The reason people of extreme wealth, power, influence keep gravitating around the corners of the humble metatribe is that it is one of the largest and most alive cultural scenes on the (tech/overculture) internet, especially publicly accessible.
Actually hairline is closer to cup size.
There's nothing quite like height, as a relatively unfixable, filterable, very primal feature, that has a much stronger preference concentration.
I feel like girls feel about height the same way guys feel about cup size. Like sure it's nice if you discover ur girl has huge naturals but it's very rarely the make or break factor and really every size is beautiful in its own way, u make it work.
HOWEVER: if you think about what’s distinctive and most popular about Mexican food, it’s: crowd-pleasing ingredients like rice, corn, chicken; soft textures; big flavors that pop in your mouth; eating with your hands and making a mess—these are the culinary pleasures of children.
I may regret asking this but do my non-Jewish followers actually know what the Talmud is or is it just vaguely 'that thing they made up after the Old Testament'?
Went in expecting hard technical questions, instead got stuff like 'talk about a time you had a disagreement with engineering and how you resolved it', flailed around because I wasn't sure how to say 'we talked about it like adults and moved on'
(2/n)
I can't find her supporting information, but atomic scale simulations are pretty computationally costly. You can't just easily search all of probability space for them, it would be a giant waste.
(4/n)
Assuming I'm not completely misreading this, there are no superconducting properties 'assumed' into the simulation, merely atomic arrangement.
If this is the case, you would expect nearly every outcome to -not- show conducting.
I passed the hard interview (product sense)
It was the easy interview about my own career where they asked me questions and I didn't have relevant anecdotes I failed 😭
