On this day, 25 years ago, the Indica was unveiled. India’s first truly indigenous car laid the foundation for Tata Motors’ car biz. Was there at Pragati Maidan on Jan 15th, 1998 & today am honoured to celebrate the 25th anniv with Ratan Tata the man behind this legendary car.

Neither Tata nor Mahindra have the base platform or an engine powerful enough for such a heavy car. And it makes no sense to develop one (would take years & no business case). You obviously have no idea how the auto industry works..

Finally got delivery of my Ola S1 Pro 6 months after booking it. Long waiting periods common in age of shortages, so not complaining. Took just 15min for delivery boys to unload, finish paperwork, explain bike etc. Impressed! True test starts now on Mumbai roads in summer heat!🤞

Ford has only itself to blame. Misjudged many realities of complex Ind market despite having good products. True, tax/ fuel prices not making motoring cheap but it’s same playing field for leading auto cos who have adapted/ adjusted to volatile market conditions much faster.

US automaker Ford Motors-$2.5 billion invested in India over 2 decades for a 4 lakh annual capacity, is shutting shop in India due to low demand. Ford operates at just 20% capacity. High taxes and petrol/diesel prices also cause of low demand. Bad optics for PM due to visit US.

Very impressed with XUV300 AutoShift- the best AMT application yet. Responsive of the line (maybe a little too responsive!) & typical AMT pause between shift not so pronounced. Smooth & punchy 1.2 turbo-petrol masks AMT inherent limitations.

Absurd to delist Nexon EV for not meeting ARAI mileage claims in real world. No car in India that does! By this yardstick, every EV should be delisted & action taken against IC engine cars too, esp turbo-petrols. @autocarindiamag FE test closest you get to real world numbers.

Nexon EV is right now THE best City car in our long term fleet & it’s quite addictive too because it’s so much easier to drive than any ICE car. Haven’t strayed too far from a plug to properly test range but for my daily run it’s a non-issue. #autocarlongtemer

100,000th made-in-India BMW, a 740Li rolls out of @bmwindia ‘s Chennai plant. It’s taken BMW India 12 years to hit this landmark figure which China does every 2 months! Last year BMW group sold around 840k cars in China. Gives some perspective on size of our lux car market.

First Tata EV to catch fire after 30,000 of them on road, having covered a cumulative 100 million km. Cause more likely some quality glitch than a design flaw. Seems to be a one-off incident that shouldn’t have happened in first place. @TataMotors investigating cause of fire.

Tata Motors is conducting an investigation into the Nexon EV fire. The exact cause is currently unknown. Interestingly unlike most others, the Nexon EV uses LFP cells, which are more forgiving under thermal stress than NMC cells. Full story:
