@mochamomma
Exactly, it's defining an asymmetrical power relationship -- the grateful supplicant role -- rather than equals discussing a cooperative, mutually beneficial working arrangement
@nrrrdcore
My first wife was told by a Kaiser ER doctor she was having a “painful period complicated by hysteria” - went to SF General where they determined it was an ectopic pregnancy, so yeah
@hacks4pancakes
Yeah, that whole “dress for the job you want” thing gets a lot of lip service but walk into the office in a neoprene wetsuit and swim fins and it’s all “oh no not like that”
@Freeyourmindkid
Better than the time my first wife and I were invited to our landlord's church service (in Georgia, when I was in the Army) and it turned out to be a speaking-in-tongues OMGWTF deal and we just wanted to get out alive...
Sad day in the Erlang/Elixir community mourning the loss of Joe Armstrong - meeting him at CodeBeamSF 2018 was such a treat - smart, funny, welcoming

Nah, WFH doesn't necessarily mean "home"; I know people who relish working remotely from coffee shops, coworking spaces, libraries -- lots of possibilities.

A racist BY DEFINITION can't "love liberal values" so fuck 'em if they don't like being confronted by their own created reality

I walked out of my father’s front door in Tucson one morning with two leashed West Highland Terriers to see a large bobcat strolling by. The Westies were grooving the pavement trying to drag me along to go chase the “kitty”.
@gravislizard
Exactly this: sometimes "cognitive load shedding" is the only sane response to complexity in your life, because ADHD, age, stress, whatever
@isaach
Grocery checker insisted on seeing my ID, looked at the pre-1950 DOB and started raving about "seeing all the great bands" and "I wish *I'd* gotten to go to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert" (narrator: he never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd) and now I need a fake ID

Don't most of these services show a near-real-time map of your food deliverer's vehicle en route? That would give you some idea of the source (unless that's being faked as well!).
@emmabrillhart
Meaningfully named modules/classes/functions/methods/variables makes a huge difference in any language; after that adherence to the Single Responsibility Principle. Typespecs if supported 😀
@baddestmamajama
That's awesome. Here in San Jose I would have been betting on raccoons (or maybe 'possums) -- have only ever seen tiny alligator lizards in our yard.
Just ordered my ticket for in-person Code Beam SF in Mountain View in November. C’mon people let’s get this pandemic under control 😀

I'm not very good at learning in the abstract so I try to apply a new tool/technique/language that I'm interested in towards solving an actual current need I have e.g. "oh, this might be a good use case for a graph database, let's try it"
@jackdomleo7
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say "the user wants to reach their goal without being forced to do unnecessary shit the developer was too lazy to eliminate?"

LOL, seriously, "remote" doesn't mean a cave in the Himalaya -- I'm "remote" from my team, living in San Jose, enjoying the company of wife, dog, and so not feeling "isolated" 😀
First time sitting out on the patio since my wife died. For a couple of minutes there were two hummingbirds in the yard, and then one shot up and vanished while the other stayed quite a while, left, and came back. That seems appropriate.
Apparently this is the 14th anniversary of my joining Twitter - seems hard to believe. Two much-loved dogs and two cats gone to the Rainbow Bridge, my wife’s death last August from cancer, my own cancer diagnosis, all seems to have happened yesterday and an eternity ago. 🕛
Sigh. Back from a short walk with Bodhi between rain showers; he came inside and ran around the house looking for Buster, three weeks gone to the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow.
