Whatโs happened to Moments? They still exist, but are very hard to find.
Anyway, recent discussion about a certain cook made me dig out this Moment about Preppers:
โPreppersโ
Thereโs two telling points about this:
1: He thinks he should be treated differently because of stereotypical ideas about clothing.
2: A unisex changing room - which is for anyone - isnโt good enough. Ask yourself why.
Any suggestion this is โprogressiveโ is absurd.
Weโve got foxes in our garden. Weโve also got chickens. And Iโve got a baseball bat.
Weโve also got proper chicken netting so the foxes canโt get stuck in it, and Iโm not a psychopath.
I mean, look at them.
Funny how the message is always โwomen arenโt the only people who can get pregnant - trans men and non-binary people can tooโ, and not โmen arenโt the only people who can cause pregnancies, trans women and non-binary people can tooโ.
An underappreciated component of JK Rowling's badness as a writer is her utter lack of understanding of how systems and organizations work. That's not how schools work. That's not how government ministries work. That's not how newspapers work. That's not how sports work. That'sโฆ
@thesarahkelly
Well, no, Iโm not confused in the slightest - because no-one in the โ80s thought Grace Jones turned into a man when she wore a suit.
Itโs the people who think that your clothes and mannerisms are connected to your sex who are reinforcing gender roles, not us.
Thereโs an old joke from Glasgow:
โAre you Catholic or Protestant?โ
โNeither, Iโm Atheist.โ
โAye, but are you a Catholic Atheist or a Protestant Atheist?โ
Thatโs the problem with โcisโ - it buys into the belief system, it assumes you have a โgender identityโ.
Listening to that teacher yelling at a couple of schoolgirls, Iโm struck that she doesnโt sound like someone having a disagreement (with children!) about facts.
She sounds like a religious person whoโs having her faith questioned.
An actual associate professor, specialising in the radical far-right, said that JK Rowling was worse than Marine Le Pen - thatโs how much this mess is rotting peoplesโ brains.
What rights did men lose when women gained the right to vote?
Billy is making the classic mistake of confusing rights and privileges - a common error that MRAs make.

@billybragg
Itโs funny (though not really) how the PMCWs always expect women to do the actual work of welcoming trans people, budging over in their spaces and sports, not minding if language changes. Thereโs never a suggestion from PMCWs that men should do anything to help trans people.
Oh I wondered where these nasty vicious inhumane people were coming from.
Time for me to unfollow and report Mumsnet to
@metpoliceuk
Thanks for the info Tom
Any murder is a tragedy - the murder of a child doubly so.
But the cynic in me wonders if the Scottish Green Party held a candlelit vigil for any of the 107 women and girls murdered by men in 2022?
If not, theyโre using this horrific murder as a political stunt.
@AmnestyUK_LGBTI
Next, you should mention Gaius Julius Caesar (100 BC - 44 BC) dictator and general of Ancient Rome. Born a man, used male pronouns, but presented himself as a woman wearing a skirt.
If youโre worried about, say, a rapid increase in child obesity, and you say โwe need to reduce the number of obese childrenโ, no-one who isnโt totally out of their gourd would think youโre proposing killing kids.
โWhere is this culture war coming from,โ I ponder to myself, as I write another article claiming anyone who disagrees with me is funded by a secretive right-wing think-tank.
@The_Globe
Sounds great - Iโm really looking forward to the production of Shakespeareโs Julie Caesar, about the Roman emperor who used she/her pronouns probably because she wore a skirt.
Watching a Lucy Worsley documentary about Scottish Witches - and how the Scottish Government of the time introduced an act making witchcraft illegal, without actually defining witchcraft.

The first rule of comparing things to the Holocaust is you NEVER compare things to the Holocaust.
Especially women defending their existing rights.
I mean YIKES, dude - I had low expectations of you, but this takes the biscuit. What happened to you?
@SwiftOnSecurity
Weโve always been like this - the stories of our nuclear deterrent are hilariously terrifying. We couldnโt afford a โfootballโ device, so if the Prime Minister was travelling, he was supposed to find a pay phone to call the Ministry of Defence (reversing the charges).
@StephenKing
First thing I did was look up a map to see how close it was to family. About 30 minutes drive away.
Here in Scotland we had one horrific school shooting, then banned guns. No more mass shootings. The answer isnโt difficult.

Hi, you were pictured in front of a sign calling for people who disagree with GRA reform to be beheaded - just wondering what you think about that?
Matt Walsh and Dylan Mulvaney are two sides of the same coin - both grifters trying to make money out of telling women how to be proper women, both based on sexist stereotypes.
So the science community response to Cass is:
- a letter from a bunch of academics condemning it, but theyโre all Professors of Restaurant Management and the like.
- actual scientists who write popular science books suddenly pretending that itโs not really their area.

You either believe in self-ID for everyone, or you donโt believe in it. If you say โapart from that guyโ, what criteria are you using?
This is what happens when ideology bumps up against reality.

@paisleycurrah
Yikes. Are you really mansplaining to a woman whoโs just written a nuanced and heartfelt article about being a domestic abuse survivor?
This is odd in multiple ways - firstly, hate speech is an aggravator, not a stand-alone crime, so what was the actual crime?
Secondly, saying someone โlooks like a lesbianโ isnโt hate speech unless you think being a lesbian is a bad thing.

45-year-old bloke here - Iโve never had an erection caused by temperature fluctuations or muscle spasms in my leg. If you have, itโs not a good sign and you should probably see a doctor.

The problem with masculinity isnโt feminism, itโs men like you and him telling men that the problem is feminism.

Hello, Iโm a bloke in Scotland whoโs been donating every month to a rape shelter in Vancouver for over three years, ever since Morgane Oger tried to get them shut down. Just so you know who youโre talking to.
Iโm amazed that PR companies arenโt telling their clients, โDo NOT wade into this issue, you will get ratioed up the wazoo and end up with everyone on both sides hating you, which does not enhance shareholder value.โ
Thereโs something ironic about Margaret Atwood discovering, in real time, that the mob will come for any woman who shows even the tiniest bit of a backbone.
If I was in charge of a large pub chain, and an incident happened in one of my pubs which was causing a media and Twitter storm, Iโd be looking closely at the security footage which undoubtedly exists.
@Aidan_Baron
Well done, Adam. A lesser man would be embarrassed to try to tell feminists that theyโre doing it wrong, but you do you. Extra points for trying to equate women who want to keep their existing rights to slave owners, thatโs a nice touch.
The trouble with doing a proper interview is you canโt just call the interviewer a bigot, ignore the question and block them. The vacuousness of your โargumentโ is clear for all to see.
Maybe stick with โno debateโ next time?
Disagree with any of my beliefs, I donโt care. Iโll happily discuss with you, maybe try to persuade you. But I wonโt think you hate me because you donโt believe what I believe.
Thatโs because I donโt think my beliefs are my whole existence. Only religious fanatics think that.
โIf I do the washing up, am I the mother?โ
โOnly if you identify as a woman.โ
โHow do I identify as a woman?โ
โBy doing womanly things, like the washing up.โ
This whole thing is both deeply sexist, and an example of circular logic.

Whatโs a โmothering functionโ? When I wake up my kid, make her breakfast, lunch and dinner, take her to a doctorโs appointment and gymnastics, and do the dishes at the end of the day, am I a mother?
Think carefully - if I wore a dress while doing it, would it change your answer?
You either believe in self-ID for everyone, or no-one.
Itโs like free speech - once you add an โapart from that personโ, you no longer believe in it.

This is going to become law soon, and still the definitions are totally circular. Itโs a new blasphemy law.

I export all over the world - I still havenโt found anyone who can explain to me how the EU or CU is holding me back from exporting to the rest of the world.
It takes some amazing elitist arrogance to know absolutely nothing about the history of working-class education, free museums and libraries, pit bands and factory poetry societies, all the other ways that working class people tried to do more with their lives.
What working class kid in the 80s was playing flute and in a youth orchestra? Sorry lessons for instruments that require classical training COST MONEY.
Being comfortably lower middle class and comparing yourself to very rich kids does not make you working class.

Itโs interesting to break this down. A simple message of love for a well-loved author, in her home city, for her birthday, removed for being political and/or offensive.
The complaint is that, while the message isnโt offensive in itself, itโs a ... 1/5

Well, because some of us have actual degrees in Physics and donโt fall for this kind of sparkly woo-woo. You may as well be talking about astrology and the music of the spheres.

Secondly, conflating transphobes (people who hate trans people) with being gender critical (people who donโt believe in gender identity) is a false equivalence.
