My medical school has just emailed to let us know that clinical placement on day of strikes is cancelled and we should not attend clinical sites. This is how you do it 🙌 I hope all medical schools will do the same.

On @LBC there is a caller saying that nurses shouldn’t strike because “they sign up to help people.” I wonder what they say in aeroplane safety videos: put your own oxygen mask on before helping children/ others. If nurses don’t look after themselves,they can’t look after you.

I earn more hourly doing covid-19 vaccination shifts as a medical student with no degree. Doctors are so underpaid. 6 years of uni & heavy patient responsibility. I knew I wouldn’t be mad rich as a doctor, but I thought at least I’d be valued. @wesstreeting #PayRestoration

BCG did a talk at my med school encouraging us to apply. They said we’d enter one above the junior level. A minimum of a 5 year medical degree, and then 4 years practising as a doctor, is required to earn their STARTING salary. And @SteveBarclay wonders why we won’t stay.

My Mum often gets scared about me wading into politics. She says to stay away… I think medicine and politics go hand in hand. Political choices influence massively on the mental health and physical health of my future patients. Every doctor should be political.

Not the headline I expected... The BMA needs to accept that Labour’s plans to train 7,500 more doctors a year must be met with higher standards for patients. In contrast, other health unions are being reasonable - it’s the government who are stubbornly refusing to negotiate.

@northerness @LBC @mattfrei If every doctor did that, there would be no one to treat London. Many new Consultants are also priced out of London. If doctors can’t afford to live nearby the hospital - what happens in emergencies? That isn’t a viable option.

@drphiliplee1 Very true! Vaccinated a lovely gentleman who came in for his first dose today. Previously was sceptical but caught Covid a few months ago and was hospitalised. We were thrilled he came for his vaccine and hope to see him for his second! Please come if you change your mind ☺️

Hi @DrRosena , we are a small group of medical students campaigning for a #LiveableNHSbursary . As a doctor yourself - we’d be grateful for your support. We are struggling and deserve better. A full-time degree deserves full-time funding.
