Thank you

@BBCNews
for sharing the
#LiveableNHSBursary
campaign.
We just want a fair chance at becoming the best doctors we can be. We need adequate financial support in our clinical years! Support our campaign!

18 of us Medical Students recieved our in person training for delivering the COVID Pfizer Vaccine today. We will begin administering in the New Year
@GSTTnhs
. We are prepared and enthusiastic. Looking forward to a vaccinated UK💉
Please go to a hospital run food-bank, Lord Markham, and tell a nurse that to their face while they queue for food for their kids.
Your COVID test company set up in 2020 made £50m annually (while being a government health minister I should add).
@JolyonMaugham

My medical school has just emailed to let us know that clinical placement on day of strikes is cancelled and we should not attend clinical sites.
This is how you do it 🙌
I hope all medical schools will do the same.
On
@LBC
there is a caller saying that nurses shouldn’t strike because “they sign up to help people.”
I wonder what they say in aeroplane safety videos: put your own oxygen mask on before helping children/ others.
If nurses don’t look after themselves,they can’t look after you.
Take me off
#NHS
TikTok because what is this.
Firstly it seems if you forget your lunch at home the only option is to *starve*
Why is the mess a whole marathon away - and you have to walk through the carpark (safety? Night?)
Changing in toilets - unfortunately classic.
40p pens!
@SteveBarclay
@TheSun
Stop writing pathetic nonsense in the most right wing papers you can find, and instead start negotiating with all the unions! Why have you still not met with the BMA?
Without Junior Doctors the NHS grinds to a halt. They aren't worth a quarter less than 15 years ago. Time for
#PayRestoration
.
Also shows the disruption caused by Steve Barclay not meeting Junior Doctors during the 150 days from when the dispute began
I earn more hourly doing covid-19 vaccination shifts as a medical student with no degree.
Doctors are so underpaid.
6 years of uni & heavy patient responsibility.
I knew I wouldn’t be mad rich as a doctor, but I thought at least I’d be valued.
@wesstreeting
#PayRestoration
BCG did a talk at my med school encouraging us to apply. They said we’d enter one above the junior level.
A minimum of a 5 year medical degree, and then 4 years practising as a doctor, is required to earn their STARTING salary.
And
@SteveBarclay
wonders why we won’t stay.
Drew a circle around zone 4 ish of London on right move and put the rent for 50% of FY1 take home
Mostly car parking spaces come up. This was back in 2014, I wonder how much worse it’s gotten…
My Mum often gets scared about me wading into politics. She says to stay away…
I think medicine and politics go hand in hand.
Political choices influence massively on the mental health and physical health of my future patients.
Every doctor should be political.
Well, another week has come and gone with
@sajidjavid
remaining awfully quiet regarding
#LiveableNHSBursary
. Maybe he only understands memes? Happy Saturday all :)
"Junior doctors, who according to the British Medical Association have endured real terms pay cuts of 26% since 2008, are also refusing to accept far less than the 35% increase they are asking for. Their demand is not “excessive”, it’s redressive."
@SteveBarclay
Oh Steve, what’s unreasonable is slashing junior doctor pay by 26% and expecting them to stay!
You must be burnt to a crisp the amount of times your pants have caught fire.
There’s a wanting to win the next election, and then there is this. Singling out the BMA who represent junior doctors who’ve lost 26% of their pay and consultants nearly 40% since 2008.
Singling out GPs in particular too?
No shame.
Strike, no matter the party.
#PayRestoration
Not the headline I expected...
The BMA needs to accept that Labour’s plans to train 7,500 more doctors a year must be met with higher standards for patients.
In contrast, other health unions are being reasonable - it’s the government who are stubbornly refusing to negotiate.
If you’re angry that nurses are fighting for fair pay, If you think that their earnings are “high”, maybe consider that EVERYONE is not being paid their worth in the UK. Rally your colleagues and fight for better pay for yourself too.
#nursestrike
"... almost 4 in 10 junior doctors in the UK according to BMA are exploring careers outside the NHS... combination of low pay, responsibility but no autonomy, a long series of self-funded professional exams, & increasing moral injury... pushing you away"
Just spoke on funding for medical degrees at

BMA condemns ‘political choice’ not to tackle ‘intolerable’ pressure on NHS

Low unemployment means nothing if 1 in 5 live in poverty, food bank use is increasing, and thousands upon thousands are at risk of homelessness.

@NHSEngland
@BMA_JuniorDocs
You deceiving excuse for a secretary of state. You invited them at 10pm on the Friday before strikes for a mandate-less meeting - after failing to turn up during the day.

#NHS75
BMA wasn’t invited to formation of work force plan. You’d think, that with them representing tens of thousands of doctors, they’d have a seat at the table.
To all the Tory health ministers, secretary of states, and prime ministers over the past decade -
MSC has written to the governments in England, Wales and Northern Ireland expressing concern about the increasing financial pressures being placed on medical students.
Read the full correspondence here:
Supportive comments, even in the Telegraph. That headline makes me laugh though... of course the strike has been planned to be disruptive. That's the definition of a strike.
#PayRestoration
@Conservatives
So this is why Sunak wants us to focus on maths.
Because, a fairer comparison would be percentage.
It might be that conservative constituency roads are in such disrepair, they have so many potholes hence a larger number.
Whereas, labour and libdem roads are better maintained.
For an undergrad medical student receiving max funding to live from SFE and NHS Bursary, looking at 40 week academic year, compared to year one, final year has:
43% less for those in London
40% less for those out of London
41% less for those in parental home
#LiveableNHSBursary
Honestly, please join the BMA. Free till October. What are you waiting for? Let’s bolster their numbers. Show them we aren’t playing. Talk to your colleagues in the mess (if you still have one) and engage them in
#PayRestoration
#JoinTheBMA
@Conservatives
Forgot your sixth priority:
✅ Purposefully not negotiating with Juniors Doctors to ensure you have a scapegoat for your destruction of the NHS in the next general elections
At a University Society event where a Consulting company is running an information/ networking evening targeting medical students. The hall is packed.
Lots (like me) are just curious.
But it’s a sign of the times.
#PayRestoration
desperately needed to retain future doctors.
@Beska
It is honestly so bizarre - medical schools that deliver lectures on ethics and stress professionalism… now doing this to their own medical students. The power dynamic and pressure cannot and will not be a safe environment for learning.
Quotes from Wes Streeting:
“I do think the junior doctors are making a fair argument around their pay and the fact that pay has not kept up with inflation.”
“I want to see the Government come to a compromise so strikes do not need to go ahead.”
@docib
@BBCNews
@TheBMA
I don’t think media pressure will force government to act anyway. It will be the NHS trust bosses etc. and the lengthening waitlists. Ultimately I don’t think media support really matters… might be wrong here
@JonnyGucks
@MStott88
Agreed. New graduates are leaving medical school with £100,000 of debt which gathers interest, and into a job that pays 30% less than 10 years ago. I am not worth less.
Just watched the full interview. Glad Rob didn't apologise for disruption caused by strikes.
These are the governments strikes. This is their fault. Blame lies with them. Apology should come from them.

Small hack for PassMed issues
If you download the app, you can predownload the textbook and 100 questions
This seems to be unaffected from PassMedicine going down
If you are contacted to do interviews talking about Doctors Pay/Strikes, please please please decline and direct them to the BMA media team. We need to stick to a handful of recognised, media trained and democratically elected representatives mediaoffice

highlighting that it will not cost the Government impossibile amounts of money to pay doctors fairly. £37 Bn squandered on dodgy contract. 👏👏👏👏
@SteveBarclay
And how many will quit before completing their degree?
How many nurses quit within 5 years?
How many nurses are leaving the NHS each year in total?
How many nurse shortages are there?
@northerness
@LBC
@mattfrei
If every doctor did that, there would be no one to treat London. Many new Consultants are also priced out of London. If doctors can’t afford to live nearby the hospital - what happens in emergencies?
That isn’t a viable option.
Thank you to any low-income, or widening participation, or affected middle-income medical students who have bravely shared their personal circumstances to raise awareness of
#LiveableNHSBursary
. It’s a tough thing to do, especially when medicine is still skewed towards the rich.
Excited to share my first first author paper which was accepted without revisions!
Special thank you to
@gmbowsher
whom I am grateful for supporting me throughout!
Shocked to find that junior docs applying for specialist training get points fot doing lots of courses but are only funded by their trusts to do one. Disadvantages those struggling financially/with family commitments?
Medical students (and the general public!) want to know why Doctors are preparing to strike? This is the first in a series of videos from the
@TheDA_UK
medical students committee explaining why!
How many points on average do people get on these scoring systems?
“You have plenty time to figure out what you want to do!” - well evidently not, look at this! 😅
🚨CONSULTANTS🚨
Please fill out this Consultative Ballot… you’re not just doing it for yourself, but also every single junior doctor, medical student, and prospective applicant to medicine. But mostly me in ~15 years 🤣

"We don't have any legs to stand on to argue against the strikes, as we've understaffed hospitals for over a decade and a cut junior doctor pay by 26.5% since 2008. Why don't we just try and attack the ballot process instead?"

Literally the hospital opposite his office. Ancient computers that take over 30mins to load on a normal day, and then entirely crash in the heat. I wonder if any computers in parliament crashed? Maybe we could switch them all in the dead of night? 😂
After 14y of real-terms pay cuts will you commit to
1️⃣full pay restoration for doctors
2️⃣fix national scandal of punitive pensions tax driving doctors to retire early/ reduce their hours
Waiting lists aren't going anywhere if not📈

You currently have doctors and consultants on strike in England, with no end in sight.
Maybe stop making these ridiculous vanity videos and start negotiating.
@drphiliplee1
Very true! Vaccinated a lovely gentleman who came in for his first dose today. Previously was sceptical but caught Covid a few months ago and was hospitalised. We were thrilled he came for his vaccine and hope to see him for his second! Please come if you change your mind ☺️
