you cannot just pay people less and call it a “fellowship” because that word has a very specific meaning, it is when you hire a bunch of nerds to destroy something
it is okay if you aren’t writing because of the coup and it is also okay if you aren’t writing because of the pandemic and it is also okay if you aren’t writing because you do not want to
happy new year! please reply to this tweet RIGHT NOW with your jobs and freelance thingers so writers of color who have resolved to pitch and apply can find them

thinking today about all the talented writers of color who never really had a chance in journalism even though they did not fall in love with martin shkreli
if you search for "from:writersofcolor sad trombone" you will find a permanent public historical archive of companies and publications refusing requests for pay transparency from writers of color. deleting the original tweet does not remove this record.
would you guys like it if we started regularly posting WRITING PROMPTS? okay lets try it, today’s assignment is for you to write an increasingly intense email to someone who still owes you money, have fun
1. New Yorker
@newyorker
2. New York Times
@nytimes
3. New York Magazine
@NYMag
In what order do you think these excellent publications will start complying with New York City’s pay transparency requirements?
It’s a race! Will update this thread with results as they come in…
sure it sucks that all the writing jobs are in nyc but on the other hand at least the rent is expensive and the subway doesn’t fuckin work. hmm sorry forgot where i was going with this
vox media should really just start including salaries in job listings instead of relying on me having memorized that they are on page 23 of the union contract
whenever you start to worry that you are not good at coming up with words just remember that everyone just collectively agreed to use “sea food” and “under pants”
everything else aside by this point every publication should be aggressively hiring writers of color and paying them well solely out of fear of being savagely roasted in private group texts
tip: if you are stuck and having trouble getting all your writing done a good trick is to get paid extremely well for it, in my experience that makes it a lot easier to be productive
hello we are hiring writers for our “diverse voices” fellowship. apply! please. nobody here could think up a better name for it than this. we need help
rip to all the editors and managers who died instantly from including the salary range in the job listing, we love you and we miss you and we will honor your sacrifice forever
happy new year! lots of ambitious new year's resolutions floating around. editors and managers, resolve to diversify your publications, and reply to this thread RIGHT NOW with your jobs! writers, apply to these and send your best pitches!
happy new year! please reply RIGHT NOW with jobs and freelance opportunities so the writers of color who have made resolutions to pitch and apply can find them!
people say if you want to be a great writer you have to write every day but they are WRONG, you gotta save that shit up and release it in a single brilliant piece for which they will remember you forever
professional writing can be a really tough business so any time you find yourself accepting an assignment for less than you deserve to be paid for that work you should at least eat a little melted cheese on some toast or like a tortilla trust me it helps
