Does anyone ever think about how many journalists of color are only able to enter the industry as interns or fellows and then denied permanent positions because they’ve only had internships? You can’t get permanent experience when people only give you non-permanent work.

A week ago my dad broke his leg. The day after he came home the hospital called and told him he’d tested positive. I’m currently the only person caring for him and I’m terrified. If you have a spare prayer or kind thought to send our way this Christmas I would be so thankful.

When I first started in journalism someone told me that I was too opinionated to make it in public radio. That really stung at the time but now know better. As I see it, having strong opinions leads to better editorial discussions which leads to more accurate and fair coverage.
