The Burkes used money to influence the elections in 2019/20 and to stop liberal politicians from being elected. As one of the 3 targets, I found it personally difficult. We need action or American-style attack ads will be regular feature of Irish politics
An Bord Pleanála agreeing decision to quash the Galway Ring Road today. They admit to not having taken the Climate Action Plan into account. Now it's time to ramp up a solution to traffic congestion through public and active travel. A reimagined Galway is needed.
I'm disgusted at this fire in my constituency and at the attitude of some local politicians over the past couple of days. I beg of people to show their common humanity

I guess most Galway councillors are content with showing zero love to Salthill or for the future of the planet. Disappointed to see 13 vote to revoke the temporary cycle lane, with only 4 standing firm. They declined to make any amendments as per the submissions received.
A rare, protected white-tailed eagle has been deliberately shot dead in Roscommon today. This is devastating for the NPWS staff who have lovingly introduced her, successfully, to the wild in the West of Ireland.

Galway Ring Road formally quashed today in the High Court. Well done to Irish Environmental Network for successfully arguing that the Climate Action Plan was not taken into account.

I condemn indiscriminate attacks by Hamas on Israel.

Galway City Council spent only 47% of the budget allocated to it for cycling and walking in 2021. €6,293,487 unspent 🚲 🚳
For 2022 they applied for one of the lowest allocations. Councillors spend their time complaining about the public instead of doing their jobs

A Judicial Review has been lodged in relation to the Galway Ring Road. This action by Friends of the Irish Environment is hugely welcome 👏. The Ring Road is an old solution to Galway's traffic problems. Did ABP really take in to account their obligations under the Climate Act?
"Let's be clear, the Bill is not consistent with EU Law. It is giving false hope to growers....There is illegal peat extraction going on in plain sight all over this country" Ministers O'Brien and Burke can no longer turn a blind eye, when exports of peat are 10 times imports
The way that Anne Rabbitte has been treated this evening should be called out by everyone, regardless of politics. I know Anne to be a decent and fair politician, and this should not be tolerated in our society.

The Taoiseach needs to lead not pander to his backbenchers. Europe is burning but the Taoiseach thinks this is a good opportunity to talk down a plan to finally invest in our long neglected rail system. This is why we need Greens in government
There are spurious arguments on the front page of the City Tribune this week that cyclelanes interfere with emergency services. NO THEY DON'T. Two way cycle lanes can actually help my providing a free lane. I'd urge councillors not to spread this incorrect message
#Salthill
And no indications that walking & cycling interventions cause delays to emergency services in Ireland, either. In fact, 2-way cycle lanes can act as a free lane for the faster movement of emergency vehicles, like on the

I'd like to hear what Councillors will do to promote cycling. I'm tired of, predominantly men, saying that they cycle in Galway but doing nothing to support safety for others. There is an opportunity to get a quick win for cycling in Galway. Let's take it

Dear FF, FG and SF, here's a reality check. 40C in the UK, tens of thousands evacuated across Europe due to fires, AND farms and homes to be flooded in Ireland. Stick to the Climate Plan and be honest - every sector needs to play it's part

Great to see whopping increase for business from cycling routes. 38% increase in footfall in Dún Laoghaire, and 5 fold increase in cyclists. This could be Salthill
One lane of traffic was reclaimed to create a new cycle route from Blackrock to Sandycove. Work took eight weeks and resulted in the number of cyclists using the route increasing from 4,000 to 20,000.
There was also a 38% increase in footfall in Dún Laoghaire during this period.
