What are your wargaming plans in 2023. Each year I tend to focus on one big project and next year it’s the Crusades. Would love to hear what others are planning?
Mrs Raglan and I have been together now for 25 years. She has done an absolutely cracking job of looking after me. As we now both head rapidly towards retirement, I feel very privileged to have the opportunity of enjoying the rest of my life with Jane ❤️❤️❤️
57 years young in a few hours, I’m not sure where the years have gone, but it’s been an absolute blast up to this point in life. I have a brilliant wife and awesome kids, and if that wasn’t enough, I have made such wonderful friends in the the wargaming community. I salute you 🙏
The Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. The monastic hospitaller order was created following the First Crusade by Blessed Gerard de Martigues whose role as founder was confirmed by the papal bull Pie postulatio voluntatis issued by Pope Paschal II in 1113
Our hearts are hurting today, as we lost a family member after a short illness. At 16 yrs of age, Poppy was such a brilliant companion and a friend to all, despite attempting to steal food from those gamers who were foolish enough to leave a tasty treat in her reach. RIP Hound ❤️
The wife thinks I am taking my neighbourhood watch duties far too seriously. Personally I don’t think issuing daily passwords to my elderly neighbours and challenging the Amazon courier whilst brandishing a halberd is anything but correct and dutiful acts.
Edmund, Lord Blackadder, soon to make an appearance on a gaming table near you. “Baldrick! Why have you got a piece of cheese tied to the end of your nose?”
Landsknecht Pikemen in the service of Ferdinand (King of Spain), march to aid of Pope Alexander VI following the formation of the League of Venice.

Time to start the Retreat from Moscow project tomorrow, using a combo of Perrys, Murawski, Front Rank and North Star when released. Really looking forward to this Nap project, as it's very doable in only a few months. I only envisage approximately 120 figs per side are required.
I’m going to use some of this stuff to create a Cold War Gets Hot layout this weekend. US Rangers on a search and destroy mission, on the hunt for an Eastern Block tactical nuclear weapon carrier 👀
56 years old today, but none the wiser. Our tribe has descended upon us, so we are just going out for food and copious amounts of alcohol, it’s going to be fun and messy 🍺🍷🍸🥳
The Legions of Emperor Septimius Severus, form up outside of their marching camp for the obligatory team photo before kick off. Matt Slade will be commanding these boys tomorrow evening.

Italian Wars - Army of France - For God and France!!! Thought I’d post this Army again, as I am about to complete their opposition this month, a combined Spanish and Italian Army.

Roman Civil War - I have an exciting wargaming week planned ahead with two big games in the diary. Both games will form part of Emperor Septimius Severus’ campaign in the eastern provinces against his arch rival Pescennius Niger.

The Battle of Nicaea (193AD). The western forces of Septimius Severus prepare for their first major land battle against the eastern legions of Pescennius Niger.

Italian Wars - the Fortified Manor House is starting to look slightly better with a re-done base and some additional stippling on the walls. Do I risk adding some ivy to sections of the buildings? 🤔
Kingdom of Heaven - The Knights Hospitaller were established following the First Crusade to protect and treat Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land. They were recognizable by their black or red surcoat with a white cross. An elite and powerful fighting order of well trained knights
2024 Projects? - It’s that time of year when I start to plan next year’s projects, no big armies in the pipeline for me, just two Sharp Practice sized collections, Napoleon in Egypt and the Austro-Prussian War in 1866 (all purchased). What projects do you have planned for 2024?
Question for Wargaming Twitter - As many of us get to that stage in life when endless purchases of minis is rather pointless (as clearly we don’t have enough time left on our life clock to get them finished), just wondering if others have thought about raining in their hobby?
British Napoleonic 10th Queen's Hussars Squadron. You can probably remember when I was consistently churning out this sort of stuff

Should some 28mm big battle wargaming periods come with a health warning? ⚠️ I would suggest Napoleonics, Italian Wars and ACW would be strong contenders to fall into this category. Time, effort and the sheer expense is such a significant investment. Is there any other periods?
Raglan's top tip for annoying the wife on a Tuesday: spread your new 28mm trench system across the dining table and ask her what she thinks of your latest wargaming purchase
A concept drawing for a 28mm French fortified manor-house. This piece will look very pretty on either a HYW or Italian Wars table.

I have not posted any freshly painted stuff for nearly a month, but that doesn’t mean I have been idle. There are now 3 trays of new stuff awaiting final basing touches and flags, which are mostly from our friend at
@flagsofwar
. Some decent photos to follow over the next 7 days.
Hundred Years War - English MAA. This unit features Baron Hugh le Dispenser, Robert du Ufford Earl of Suffolk and John de Norwich - For God, for King and for England. I’ve been a little quiet on Twitter over the last week, as I have been suffering with the dreaded man flu 🤧 🙄🏴
Hundred Years War - Agincourt 1415. The English Army’s deployment. Fight not for yourselves, fight for that space. Fill that space. Make it tissue. Make it mass. Make it impenetrable! Make it yours! Make it England! Make it England!!! ⚔️🏴

Hundred Years War - Today we fought the Battle of Verneuil (1424) to a very bloody and historical conclusion. But the real winner today was friendship and fun with gentlemen wargamers. Thank you every so much for making the trip over the Welsh border boys, it was a pleasure 👍🏻🏴
Sharp Practice - Retreat from Moscow. Decided to take my Napoleonic games to a different level with a gothic horror spin. Sharp Practice meets Flesh Eater Courts, in a game of life or death. If you like Napoleonic wargaming and tales from crypt, this might be the game for you👌
Jacobite Rebellion - A beautiful little English church just south of the Scottish border 🏴. A ripe target for the Jacobites to pillage and burn🔥

#JacobiteRebellion
Scottish Wars of Independence - The Siege of Tantallon Castle, east of North Berwick, in East Lothian, Scotland 🏴. Whilst a large English army lay siege to the castle, a combined Scottish and French force attempt to lift the siege through a direct assault on the English lines 🏴
Breaking News - The English Army is destroyed at Agincourt 🫣, however, King Henry escapes to fight another day. The aloof but victorious French Nobles can be seen celebrating in the fourth photo.
@geofftbond
was actually killed in action, so we just propped him up for the photo.
Sharp Practice Boxer Rebellion - With a little help from my granddaughter, we are doing the last bit of snagging on the layout and game accessories. I am really looking forward to running this game at Lardy events this year. Asso 🙏🍻

This model is going to represent the castle at Agincourt. It was situated on the right flank of the French deployment zone. It played no part in the battle, but it’s an interesting feature and the boys will be using it to store their dead Frenchmen if history repeats itself.

Tomorrow evening, we will be leading an expedition into the Aztec World. Hernán Cortés sets out on his adventure, in search of glory, fame and riches. But There's Something Out There Waiting For Us, And It Ain't No Man. But as Cortés famously said, “If it Bleeds, We Can Kill It”
Open question ladies & gents, why do tabletop rules authors bother to include a “table set-up” section? Personally I have never used one, preferring to set the table up in a mutually agreeable way or one person sets up the table and the other person choses their preferred side.
Agincourt Batrep - the following thread provides some of game’s highlights.

decided not to deploy in the historical way, with his commander and men-at-arms on foot at the front and his gens de traite firs with his mounted men-at-arms to the rear.

Just lovely Outremer miniatures from

and

. Too nice to multi-base really, but skirmish medievals is not something I do on a regular basis. With the addition of some flags from

, I think these will look great on the tabletop.

Happy New Year everyone, see you on the other side🍻🏴. 2023 has been such a blast and I have so enjoyed sharing the hobby experience with such a positive group of wargamers, no matter whether it’s online or in person✌️👍🏻
English Civil War - I just had to buy these new ECW cavalry models from Bloody Miniatures, it would have been a foolish mistake on my part not to have pushed the purchase button. Absolutely ridiculously stunning miniatures👌

Not posted in a little while due to phone issues, however, I have not been idle. Raglan is back with Yusuf Ibn Tasfin's Hasham Guard Cavalry. Heavy cavalry was rare amongst the Almoravids, but leaders would often raise units to act as personal bodyguards.

Scottish Wars of Independence - John Lindsay of Dunord commands a Scottish schiltron at the Battle of Otterburn 1388. As I have finished the HYW English and French, it’s time to focus on the Jocks, as what medieval collection would be complete without our Irn Bru guzzling mates.
Group shot of the units featured in the 21 Day Challenge. This self-imposed challenge, really helped motivate me during a super busy time at work. Glad it's finished, but I would definitely use a similar way of giving myself a kick up the bottom to finish stuff.

WiP Boxer Rebellion - the last of the terrain pieces for the Boxer layout. These terrain features will give me loads of scenario options going forward.
Warning, controversial statement ahead (particularly for the audience in this corner of Twitter) - I am of the opinion that most wargamers are more interested in a wargame looking like something they’ve seen from movie, as opposed to historical accuracy. I welcome your thoughts?
Definitely a work in progress, but I think the middle east urban set-up, is coming along nicely. I hope to do the unpainted buildings next weekend (wife permitting).
Merry Christmas to all my wargaming mates, including those who live on the wrong side of the Severn Bridge 🥳. Not much festive spirit here today as I settle into a 24hr on call duty at 9 am, while the wife enters the fray on NHS frontline this afternoon. Have a good one boys 🍻
English Civil War - The Bishops' Wars. A new skirmish project for me this winter. I am really looking forward to this one. Some painted Scots to follow shortly, but just sorting out some suitable 3D printed buildings at the moment. 1/2 posts
