Let me see if I get this far left argument right -
I’m anti imperialist so we must negotiate over the head of another sovereign state with an aggressor that is trying to take territory by force and commit genocide against its people and culture.
This demo in front of Russian embassy today in Berlin is the biggest pro-Ukrainian rally I have seen in Germany. Organized by Young Greens, Young Liberals, Young Conservatives and Young Socialists.
This is not journalism. There is zero evidence of this being true and many dead civilians far from the front. You cannot just restate insane Russian claims and call it news.
#BREAKING
Russia says it targeted a meeting of Ukrainian air force command and representatives of Western suppliers, not civilians, in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia
The next time someone says we’re “sending money to Ukraine” think of this photo. Most of those billions stay right in the US and Ukrainians get the weapons to defend themselves.
This was a cute little suburb of Kyiv. Many families moved here to get a bit more space and away from the city. Lots of people that were created a better life for themselves and their children.
It’s not Ruski Mir but Ruski Koshmar

Apparently the bio labs in Ukraine are responsible for Covid-19. Which the west then put into mice and sent to infect Russians. Yes this is a member of the Russian Duma.
Is it me or have the conspiracy theories gotten dumber by the day?
Spent two years in Severodonetsk. Was married there. Taught in schools there. There are no military targets near this site. My wife and I are beside ourselves with anger right now.
"I'm sorry to say this: you really helped build the current government in Russia. And we hope that you [Germany] too will do a lot to stop the Russian war machine,"
@DmytroKuleba
A German embargo on Russian energy would obviously hurt Germany, but it would hurt Russia MUCH more, hindering Putin's ability to wage war. Our current forecast is for Russian GDP to fall -30% by end-2022. An embargo would see an even bigger fall, possibly in excess of -40%...

@ConStelz
Right on
“But Germany’s self-serving Russia policy and its self-inflicted energy dependence — part wilfully naive, part deeply corrupt — found eager supporters across the political party spectrum.”
I keep hearing from Europeans about Russians action on February 24 could never have been predicted. That no country could have seen an invasion. And I want to scream THERE HAS BEEN A WAR IN UKRAINE SINCE 2014 AND BOTH CRIMEA AND DONBAS HAVE BEEN OCCUPIED!!
Willful blindness.
This was a wonderful midsize Ukrainian port city about the size of Baltimore just six months ago. Nice high street for shopping, pleasant cultural amenities, and a decent food scene. Now it is this. Welcome to Ruski Mir.
Why is a
@washingtonpost
reporter interjecting adjectives into this news story?
Why is the red line “costly” but billions for widening highways goes unquestioned.
Breaking: Md. Gov, Wes Moore is relaunching a costly transit line for Baltimore whose cancellation became a symbol of neglect.
But questions remain:
Will it be light rail or buses?
Will the feds pay for it?
Can Md pay for it?
Can it afford not to?
It appears that the Russian "antinazi" campaign has bombed the memorial site to Babyn Yar which sits near the base of this TV tower.

The “Colombia Maryland Paradox” on the news continues. Bad news = Baltimore suburb. Good news = DC suburb.
Latest example: flooding at merriweather pavilion = outside Baltimore. If Howard county gets another blue ribbon school you can bet news will say it’s a DC suburb
“Kazakhstan, one of Moscow’s closest partners thanks to its historical and cultural ties…”
Asking the
@FT
editor to use less words.
“Kazakhstan, as a former Russian colony…”
Policies/reaction: Russian reset. Invaded and annexed Crimea. Shot down MH17 with no consequences. Rus funded war in Donbas. Held back arms from Ukraine for fear of provocation.
People saying why don’t oligarchs overthrow Putin don’t understand Putin got rid of oligarchs 10-15 years ago. If you have a business in Russia you exist at the pleasure of the leader. Silivoiki have been in drivers seat for some time. The market was dead in 2015.
Just finished the magnificent “The Gates of Europe” by Serhii Plokhy. Written before Feb.24th, the book ends with this: “Whatever the outcome of the current Ukraine Crisis, on its resolution depends not only the future of Ukraine but also /…/ the future of Europe as a whole.”
@NikaMelkozerova
A bit risque, but nothing to resign over. Maybe she had a date after the meeting and didn't have time to go home and change?
If we are going to critique fashion the chap on the far right of the photo needs a better fitting jacket.
We are no fucking “small ex-Soviet satellite”.
We are Czechia, a proud 10-million country whose President does phone calls with President of Taiwan and we just got about a million artillery shells to Ukrainian defenders while Germany and France do a pissing contest over egos.
The silence (or worse equivocation) from my wife’s Russian friends is enraging. They’re talking about peace and iPhones and trips to Europe. Meanwhile our friends & family are gathered in basements, shelters, and fighting an invasion of thousands with indiscriminate air strikes.
Let us sit back and watch our European neighbors be subject to a genocide. We wouldn't want violence!
This is absolutely insane. In what world do the Germans and
@Bundeskanzler
live?
@katholikentag
Imagine having “nine figures” to invest in Baltimore and you decide the best use of your money “to help” is to buy a media outlet. Not funding business incubators, helping commercialize tech out of research institutions, or creating a foundation to support community development.
According to
@GovLarryHogan
it is not true that he canceled the Red Line and funded a $30M youth jail while defunding $36M in school construction in his first budget. What kind of revisionism is this?
Sorry, those are facts. You did it. Own it.
I have a big problem with this
@FT
headline. Moscow is clearly making shit up. At least say “Moscow claims…” perhaps adding an adjective as to the authenticity of the claim?
The only “platform” Belarus served as was for the staging of thousands of Russian soldiers for an invasion and for missiles to rain down into Ukraine - Lukashenko has the blood of thousands of Ukrainians on his hands.

Fierce fighting continues in Severodonetsk. Lysychansk is being shelled. Very heavy fighting is going on near Zolote and Toshkivka. It’s said that orcs are getting tired. Those who come are tired, but somehow they are not finished yet, like cockroaches climb out of all the cracks
@EmmaMAshford
The rationale for this war was unambiguous in “restoring unity.” The attempt by the Ukrainian people to establish their identity distinct and separate from Russia is a primary cause of the invasion. This operation is aimed at ending that. This is how Russian nationalism works.
Are you sitting down?
Some people in Baltimore fight to keep a literal trash dump in a dense urban neighborhood over wholesale redevelopment into new mixed use.
You can’t make this up.
Look at the people greeting Ukrainian army in Kherson. They are changing “ЗСУ!”, the acronym for the armed forces of Ukraine. Truly a day of glory for Ukraine. Absolutely amazing.
A law student from Belarus State University dedicated her graduation speech to professors & human rights defenders fired or imprisoned for their political stance. She was detained today, interrogated for 8 hours. Her computer is confiscated, house searched. Stalinism is back.
Baltimore gets a tough rap but half dozen neighbors coming out at 7 am then calling the fire department (who shows up in minutes) to rescue a cat stuck in a car engine makes you believe in this place.
@ChiefNilesRFord
@MayorBMScott
Remember asking my high school seniors in Severodonetsk a question about this in 2005 and all but one answered that they were Ukrainian. The one exception had been born in Russia.
Putin's claim: eastern Ukraine's Donbas region "never thought of itself as anything other than part of Russia."
Reality check: 84% of Donbas residents voted for Ukrainian independence in the 1991 referendum
If you were involved in "economic development" in Baltimore City at any time during the past 50 years I think you can stop giving advice now.
We followed that advice and the city lost 300k+ people and its economic competitiveness tanked.
Please go enjoy retirement.

Standing half crouched over in small bus pack 6 over capacity on a day where it’s 26 degrees outside and you dare open the top to breathe a bit of air...and are yelled at by a babushka to stop the skovznyak!
I taught in the far east of Ukraine 15 years ago. Even then in the "pro-Russia" area of the country there was a very strong Ukrainian identity. Even there and then Russia was some place other, some other culture.
"Despite existing differences between eastern and western parts of Ukraine ... Ukrainians retain a strong sense of belonging to a sovereign and distinct state," writes Janko Scepanovic.
I see moral and ethical failure everywhere. A lack of backbone from leadership on down. Ethics aren’t the easy way, but the only way to rebuild trust in society.
Is it an over reliance on box checking? A lawyer-ification of society? Hyper individualism?
It is not going well
Baltimore City has a $4.1 billion dollar budget and it’s run like a high school student government. I’d like to make it two weeks without having some sort of major scandal involving city employees.

I think the “give Russia what it wants camp” in DC severely underestimates 1) just how much Russia wants 2) the implications for going back to 19th century great power politics (good bye global trade) 3) lacks imagination in ways to persuade an adversary
I-81 IS OFFICIALLY DONE!

It’s the oil and gas revenue that gives the Kremlin the hard currency. While western companies leaving shows commitment to principles over profit if oil and gas funds can’t be cut then Putin continues to fund his war. It’s hard, but it’s necessary to stop the war.
Lexington market remains undefeated capitalism. Park 9 am. Woman comes up to me w cart selling cans of beer and wine, single cigarettes, and cigars.
Not interested. Okay, she’s got ravens gear she’s selling.
Still not interested. Pulls out iPad with full inventory of car parts.
Fitting that my grandmother passed on Ash Wednesday. A devout Catholic to the end. May she rest in peace.

Here the Senator is trying to play the race card when data for speed camera show that it’s people who live outside the city who use the streets as speedways. Many cameras are at intersections where accidents frequently occur.

She’s reportedly a member of opposition bloc, an openly pro Russian party that receives financial support from Russia via intermediaries.
This is the thing. Putin really believes that the color revolutions were all at the hand of the west. Spontaneous demonstrations for human dignity and right’s can’t happen. It’s a sick and demented view of humanity but I firmly believe that this is how he sees people.
In a sign of how the Kremlin believes spontaneous public outbursts are impossible, you couldn't even buy tickets for this concert.
Per Russian media, state employees and students were paid or forced to go. They shut the doors to stop them leaving before Putin's speech at the end
Someone please tell
@LulaOficial
that Ukraine has laid out it’s terms for peace very clearly - Russia should remove itself from its territory and respect its borders and sovereignty as it has agreed to do through many treaties over many decades.
This is painfully disingenuous.
We need to be patient with Russia but the US should stop incentivising war…
If this is what non-aligned looks like, it’s a non-starter.
