it’s funny how basically every megacity realized that mass transit is the only way to efficiently move millions of people every day but Los Angeles tried to delude itself into thinking highways would work and now the traffic just looks like this every day

New York City has approximately 3 million parking spots, and 97% of them are free parking. A standard parking spot is 180 square feet. The average price per square foot of land in New York is ~$1000. New York City has an invisible $500 BILLION car subsidy.

@the_transit_guy Public transportation is way more inefficient or else it’d actually be used in more places. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But also, this is America, we still have a ton of land. New York City is a tiny exception to the norm.

This New York Times article is journalistic malpractice. The e-bike riders were killed by SUVs. Cars cause 43,000 deaths every single year, that’s the problem here. We’ve become so normalized to the death caused by cars that journalists are blaming the victims

AOC is 100% right. capital investments in efficient infrastructure like rail is an anti-inflationary policy that lowers the cost of goods by significantly reducing the impact of expensive oil prices on everyday goods

it’s funny that conservatives think walkable cities with mixed densities are Soviet-style social engineering (even though they’ve existed for thousands of years) but suburbs with rules mandating single family homes and massive roads are the “natural” way of urban evolution

Conservatives don't want to live in centrally planned, federally constructed "15 minute cities." This is Soviet dystopian nonsense. For those of us who like cities at all, we want to restore our once-great American cities to be safe, clean, orderly, and productive again.

Owning a new car costs $12k/yr on average when you factor in insurance, maintenance, gas, etc. according to AAA A year of NYC subway passes costs $1,584 building high quality transit that enables people to go car-free is far more important than making transit fare-free
