Spotted this guy on the train in Tokyo. Asked, “How ‘bout dem O’s?”
Very dryly he responded in a German accent, “Oh. I see. It’s because of the, uh [points at hat]. I just like the duck. I think it’s cool.”
Hey
@FedEx
. I told your driver here (1700 blk Maryland Ave, Baltimore) to get out of the bike lane he was obstructing, which I happened to be biking in. His response was, “Get a car.”
So, to recap:
1. A policy was put in place.
2. Crime, including homicide, went down.
3. A decision was made to continue the policy.
4. The cops are mad.
Not only do cops not reduce crime, they don’t like crime reduction.
So we're clear
@MarilynMosbyEsq
, with the new SAO/PC policy of "least" intrusive policing, folks can now trespass at Camden Yds, M&T Stadium, the SA's office, & City Hall with impunity? Or openly snort cocaine during a City Council mtg without any real repercussions? What's next?
Today I'm introducing the Abundant Housing Act.
This bill proposes zoning reforms that are being brought forth throughout the United States, dismantling exclusionary policies that maintain segregation and create housing scarcity that drives up the cost of housing.
Just saw a driver run 3 lights in a row, then checked their tags. Temp tags, expired 7 months ago. Then checked for tickets. 8 unpaid red light violations in the last 6 months.
How about we get these folks off the street?
.
@MayorBMScott
has asked the Governor to ensure more Covid vaccine for older City residents
Today the Governor, at new vaccine site at M &T Bank Stadium, dismissed the question..saying City has gotten "far more than they are really entitled to"
City Health got 3500 doses for week
My wife and I recently experienced a pregnancy loss.
We’ve individually talked about it with some friends and family, and I’ve begun to bring it up more casually.
But it’s stigmatized, so it needs to be discussed more, and normalized.
1/
If we really care about victims and prevention of homicide we have to admit that shotspotter, foxtrot, the spy plane, all the cameras, and by far the highest per capita police budget in the United States are all utterly ineffective.
Sober 20 years today.
This alone is the foundation of everything worthwhile in my life today.
Take away anything else and I’m still left with abundance. Take this away and only misery and death remain.
Change is possible.
I’ve been sober 6011 consecutive days. Today’s no particular anniversary or anything, just another day my life is awesome instead of miserable, where I get to share my experience instead of dread it. My life is full, but there’s still so much room for more.
One decent piece of news today.
A few months ago I knocked on a constituent’s door. In conversation she told me BPD had confiscated something of hers, which she had been trying to get back for two years, but BPD had become unresponsive.
I got involved.
Today it was returned.
I met
@MayorBMScott
at his home today and biked to City Hall for
#BikeToWorkDay
. What you need to know is that he carried his phone in his hand the whole ride so he could play Wu Tang from the speaker, and that this photo was the only time he allowed me in front.
I’ve eaten like a half stick of butter, a bunch of white flour, and some sugar this morning, baked, sipped coffee, helped constituents, watered my garden and pulled weeds.
How’s your morning going so far?
Also, thanks for re-electing me. I’m ready to keep working.
I just asked MDOT Secretary Rahn if MDOT places any priority whatsoever for reducing reliance on automobiles.
He responded, “I don’t believe in social engineering.”
For the love of God, elect
@BenJealous
.
If you want to know how unhappy and disturbed driving makes people, all you need to do is drive a car at the speed limit and obey all the traffic laws. People will show you their misery.
The Abundant Housing Act will allow low-density multi-unit housing in all residential areas, up to four units, depending on available square footage, plus an additional unit in areas of high opportunity, such as proximity to grocery stores and transit.
.
@MayorPugh50
complains privately that no one in City Hall is defending her and that "worse" offenders are escaping the limelight. Meanwhile,
@prezjackyoung
builds his "Executive Team" & Anthony McCarthy, now Middleton's spokes, is back!
If during this time you’re at the end of the line and wanting to stop drinking, I’m available to talk.
If you’re desperate and there’s no meeting happening, this can be a matter of life and death.
Alcoholism wants you dead. You can recover instead.
This is a the most basic example of how a system of white supremacy is perpetuated.
A) White people deciding when things aren’t racist so it’s ok not to confront them.
B) White people discouraging one another from talking about racism in order to protect self-interest.
In case there’s a big COVID outbreak among cops in the coming days, maybe it’s because the MD FOP decided to have an indoor conference, not socially distance, and hardly anyone wear a mask.
A cop assaulting a person just assault. The fact that the cop was at work at the time when they assaulted a person should have no bearing on how they are treated. If a McDonalds employee assaults somebody on the job, they’ll probably be arrested immediately. A cop though?
I might get in trouble for this, but I got so tired of emails and phone calls on Friday afternoon that I went out and got hands on.
Here’s some before and after pics.
Thank you
@MayorBMScott
for your veto of CB21-0022.
Thank you to so many who organized and advocated for a better outcome from the time this bill was first introduced.
It never needed to come to this, but given the circumstances, I couldn't be happier.
The absurdity of this City Council seems to have reached new heights. A committee just voted down
@odetteramos
’s bill to produce a study and report on Tax Increment Financing. No agency opposed doing this. They literally voted against being provided useful information.
Today I’m introducing Council Bill 20-0582, permanently establishing an Office on Ending Homelessness and a new housing voucher program, to be funded through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, for individuals and families able to move out of permanent supportive housing.
Disgusting, vile remarks about an innocent man killed by police, loved by family.
Governor Hogan’s remarks are shameful, and he owes an apology to the family of Freddie Gray.
Hogan wrote that people shouldn’t confuse Freddie Gray “with a singer in the church choir," calling him a "Crips gang–connected, street-level drug dealer with a long criminal rap sheet, well known to the Baltimore City police.”
A street is engineered to move 3000 $36,000 cars an hour through a single intersection, but putting in a bike lane so a kid can ride their $100 Huffy safely in their own neighborhood is gentrification. Yeah, ok.
Also, this
@FOP3
tweet is just bonkers. This is honestly what these old white men in Pennsylvania and Harford County are afraid of?
Trespassing at a stadium? They think folks were just waiting for an excuse to do this with impunity?
These cops are just nuts.
I’m the last three months a half dozen BPD officers have been arrested, charged, indicted, or otherwise implicated in crimes such as false testimony, kidnapping, extortion, and child pornography.
@FOP3
has not even made comment or mention of them.
In the last 10 days there have been 19 homicides & 43 failed murders (shootings) in Baltimore. Also there have been many stabbings/cuttings. There is no discernible crime plan for the daily violence and the BPD is making no progress in filling the 500 vacancies.
#CityinCrisis
Baltimore should have 400 young Black people hanging out at the harbor every night. In other cities, people on the street are considered a good thing, and such a number would be considered small. Baltimore makes its streets inhospitable to people, not the other way around.
There is not a thing
@GovLarryHogan
has done to improve a single aspect of quality of life in Baltimore. His single signature investment here is in literally tearing this city down. For years before our name spewed from Trump’s mouth,
@LarryHogan
used Baltimore as his dogwhistle.
A lot of words to say you’re cool with depraved indifference to human life.
@BaltimorePolice
I don’t think it’s safe for this guy to have a badge and gun.
The guy with the racist dress code has committed to raise $100,000 to oppose my reelection, because I said that racist things are racist, and that one of those things is his dress code.
I’m looking forward to visiting the streetcar museum today.
We called it what it is, price gouging.
They backed off.
Because of the letter we sent, Comcast is putting the brakes on its data capping plan.
And now we keep pushing.
@Zeke_Cohen
@CouncilmanKB
@BaltimoreDEC
Larry Hogan voted for his dad and a dead person instead of standing opposed to the ringleader of today’s acts of treason.
Spare me the antics, coward.
You’ll put these bodies on the line when you wouldn’t even use your own vote.
I never thought I’d see a day like this in America. I am not going to stand for this, and neither should any American.
In addition to sending in 200
@MDSP
troopers, after speaking to the Secretary of the Army, I am mobilizing 500
@MDNG
members to help restore law and order.
For a person who never once in eight years as governor testified in a single bill hearing, it’s almost believable that the man has no position… except he’s a liar.
WJLA: Would you vote for legislation that would guarantee the right to an abortion?
LARRY HOGAN: I think that’s an issue we’ll have to address.
WJLA: Surely you’ve thought about it.
LARRY HOGAN: I’m not going to speculate on any issue.
#mdsen
Rampant police corruption is a leading threat to public safety
Very disturbing that up to four homicide detectives may be involved in this extracurricular abuse of power
Look forward to
@GovLarryHogan
,
@FOP3
weighing in, and wall-to-wall outrage from
@WeAreSinclair
.
@BaltCitySchools
monitors students’ chrome books for keyword searches indicating interest in self-harm, and then sends police—not qualified professionals—to intervene.
This is crazy.
Today I’m introducing two bills.
One sets reduced default speed limits throughout the City.
One repeals a prohibition on children being children - playing catch, wiffle ball, stickball, stepball, curb-ball and other ball games in front of their own homes.
Each year we spend more on fixing public property damaged by drivers than we spend on bicycle infrastructure in 5-7 years.
And we recover less than 1% of the value of the damages, because drivers flee the scene and are never held accountable.
When I’m critical of DOT, Rec & Parks, DPW, Atlas Restaurant Group, Kevin Plank, Catherine Pugh, Jack Young, even Larry Hogan... nobody calls to ask if I feel safe.
Only when I speak my mind about cops. Only the cops make people fearful.
That’s the reality we live in.
A neighbor blew a whistle in front of my house tonight until I came out looking for somebody in distress. He then brought his German Sheppard within a foot of me, repeatedly called me a faggot while flashing a light in my face and said, “you’re messing with the Italians.”
Just got an email complaining about banning plastic bags, emphasizing the seriousness of his own opinion by referencing his family helping to prepare the City’s defenses in 1814.
I told him that his family used reusable bags in 1814.
We’re on our way to Japan, but at Chicago O’Hare on a five-hour layover. Seems like a good time to tell you we’re gonna be spending even more time together, like, our whole lives, forever, at least until we’re dead, and we’re looking forward to it.
For a year
@BaltimorePolice
told me they couldn’t provide a certain document in excel format, blaming it on old software, and instead giving me printed sheets.
Today, because of new leadership, I got what I wanted. They stopped lying about it.
I left tonight’s hearing early because it was an embarrassment I wasn’t going to dignify by participating. Baltimore deserves so much better than to have our time wasted and intelligence insulted with astroturf nonsense. We have plenty else to do.
We’re facing a climate disaster and Larry Hogan wants to continue promoting driving cars.
Ok.
Or we can elect
@BenJealous
and be in step with the views of a majority of Maryland resident.
How to waste taxpayer resources in a poor city to prioritize creating a dubious convenience for wealthy and non-City residents for several predictable minutes a day, while decreasing safety for everybody at all times, and telling people you don’t have money for other things 101.
Not to be deterred by looking foolish yesterday, tonight
@BmoreCityDOT
will propose widening Charles Street to FIVE LANES in front of Friends School so that *cars can drive faster in front of a school.*
Tonight the City Council unanimously voted to pass my bill to eliminate off-street parking requirements for inclusionary housing developments; that’s any housing development of 20 or more units. This will help more housing to be built, more affordably and reduce taxpayer costs.
Today, even my recovery is old enough to drink. 21 years of continuous sobriety. To be fair, I started drinking and using drugs long before I turned 21, so I guess in context my sobriety was old enough to drink about 9 years ago. How good it is to see how good it is.
Immediately after sundown today, on the first day of Ramadan, City Council inboxes started getting inundated with anti-ceasefire emails, claiming that to support a ceasefire is anti-Jewish.
I support a ceasefire and oppose the weaponization of antisemitism.
.
@GovLarryHogan
’s unemployment system is so broken that my office is getting calls from Owings Mills residents, just cause people have spread the word that we—live human beings—will try to help, and that’s more than they get from calls to unemployment.
I’m looking forward to being vaccinated and being able to give
@MayorBMScott
a hug cause I’m just really happy about the job he’s doing and the way he’s giving a lot of people hope.
Today's inbox:
Mr. Gerber is an active cop in Baltimore City, since 1987, from what I can tell. A great example of the department's toxic culture.
Mr. Garrison is the kind of person in league with people like Mr. Gerber.
BREAKING-
@MayorBMScott
adds another admin to the payroll/
@BaltCitySchools
board just as story comes out that the administrators are eating the money & kids aren’t being educated.
I can’t make this stuff up.
Spotted this guy on the train in Tokyo. Asked, “How ‘bout dem O’s?”
Very dryly he responded in a German accent, “Oh. I see. It’s because of the, uh [points at hat]. I just like the duck. I think it’s cool.”
Alcoholism requires everything of you, whether it’s set aside in order recover or taken along the miserable path to death.
One way or another it takes everything you have, including the fundamental dignity of choice. Some of us just get lucky and end up on the path of recovery.
Baltimore’s zoning code is racist, classist, segregationist, and exclusionary in so many ways.
If those characteristics offend you and you aren’t demanding change to our zoning code then you are missing the boat on “structural change”.
The code is the structure.
Going to testify on a bill in the MD Senate on Wednesday.
Driving: an existential dilemma, the most costly option (45 minutes)
Transit: unreliable (3 hours or more)
Bike: testify sweaty in spandex (2.5 hours)
Virtual: not an option
Democracy shouldn’t be awful.
This Mayor has been an embarrassment to the city. Government operations have not worked under her lack of leadership and vision. I’m glad to see her step aside, and I look forward to her stepping down.
If you haven’t voted in the Dem primary yet and you somehow don’t already know this:
Ivan Bates is not the most inspiring candidate and has taken some positions I don’t support, but the other candidates are supremely bad and completely unsupportable.
This whole “Brandon Scott is so young” business is racist as hell.
He is the same age
@MartinOMalley
was when he became Mayor, and but
@CouncilPresBMS
has served longer on the City Council, worked in the Mayor’s Office prior to City Council, and O’M never served as President.
Wow
@ElectRyanDorsey
! Sure hope the "movement" doesn't disown you once they find out that you accepted extra protection (special attention) from the BPD after the recent argument with your neighbor. Can't call for disbanding the BPD then use them when you feel unsafe. Hypocrite!
Speaking of voting...
There were over 110 people using Lake Montebello before 7:00 this morning.
People are voting with their feet.
Let’s keep cars out forever.
