You are correct. It is not a merger. It is an upside down acquisition where the target company survives, but is owned and controlled by the acquiring entity.

As a course it should absolutely be in the Rota, but the R&A’s concern about it’s owner making it a PR opportunity for himself and clouding The Open is not misplaced.
No easy solution here.

Cost of repair plus lifetime ban from that and all golf courses. Picture should be hung in every pro shop on planet so they can never step foot on another course.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the rich irony of Rory asking to be made whole for choosing “legacy” and “real competition” when he didn’t lose a single sponsor and played for the biggest purses in history.
Can we finally be honest that all tours are exhibitions for money and…
This is the greatest lie the Tour tells people. The Tour doesn’t create anyone. In fact, it does the exact opposite. It merely hosts tournaments. Players are completely on their own to get there, stay there, have a caddy, train, etc.
To the extent players become stars, they…

You know the PGAT created all those guys right? They are where they are because of the PGAT. What players has LIV put on the map? This thought that the PGAT isn’t still the breeding ground of great players is wild. Enjoy LIV, it serves its purpose, but PGAT is still Alpha

prior to LIV why did top golfers come to the PGAT? Was it iconic courses like TPC Memphis and La Quinta or was it because this is where the most money could be won?
I’ll hang up and listen.

Lost in all the debate is that fairways far too often roll like greens. The rollout here is absurd. Firm and fast links are one thing, but cutting fairways to roll at 11 on the stimp is silly.

Really enjoying the faux outrage about having to watch the final 4 holes on the app considering the PGA Tour and majors have had us jumping from any combination of USA to Peacock to NBC to Golf Channel to ESPN+ in any given round.
Coming up with ideas like this in its second full year, while the Tour is giddy that it figured out a walk and talk on one hole per day with a player.
One Tour is innovative, and one wants you to be satisfied with 16 Cialis commercials an hour.
LIV Golf has a new tech partnership with
@Google
that will allow fans to watch any group or player, live, throughout a tournament round.
The "Any Shot, Any Time" feature is expected to roll out in full this summer:

Will this be traditional analyst duties or more of a “manningcast” with the NLU crew? The latter would likely be a smashing success.
So once your team is set, the equity starts to ramp up. Now that sponsors are talking to us after the agreement, every team will probably have their own jet.
This is why no one can take the DPWT seriously. Hovland has never played a second on this Tour, but they tout him as one of their own…meanwhile the guy who ACTUALLY PLAYED IN EUROPE is completely ignored.
Of all the people who came off looking bad in Full Swing, ZJ and JT definitely came off the worst. He clearly chose a friend over the more deserving player.
Not sure it would’ve changed the outcome, but Keegan got robbed and it was on full display.
🏆💔☎️ The RC call between Zach & Keegan: “Thanks for being patient with me.. there’s no easy way to say this my friend, we find it best to go in a different direction.. it’s nothing you did or didn’t do because you’re amazing..”

This shows why LIV should be looking at taking events to cities that have been starved of professional golf - Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia in addition to multiple stops in Australia.

Rahm has become the best spokesman for golf over the last 12 months. Always thoughtful, never taking shots or looking for the bump on social media. One of my favorite people in the sport.
If Rahm is done a deal, the Tour has to look really hard at why. One thing that hasn’t been talked about much is that more than just a tour made to serve the top tier, it’s also got a clique at the top that might turn some guys off. The US RC team showed that serving the boys,…
I’m hoping some of the journalists that so happily hounded LIV players will have the integrity to ask Rory: “Given the strong play Brooks some of the other LIV players that beat you, do you think that schedule might be a better fit for you to focus on major championships?”
So to recap what’s happened over the last 20 months - LIV has launched and attracted top players, who have talked a lot about how much more they enjoy their new tour.
How does the PGAT respond? By doubling down on a product that isn’t great and spending so much that the…

So let’s dig in to what the $900MM really is and is not.
(1) It’s not cash.
(2) It’s going to be restricted stock units that will vest over time
(3) it’s an attempt to handcuff players from leaving.
(4) it’s split among 180 players based on a number of criteria.
(5) If we…
Rahm is correct, but looking at the LIV standings, it hard to argue for any of the European players being in current form to warrant a serious discussion. Pieters might be the only one, and maybe you’d consider Chicarra because of future potential, the rest appear past their…

and Cam Smith is not too far away. He looks like he is 20 lbs over his optimal playing weight.
The rumors about Rahm are taking up all the oxygen right now, but let’s not forget there are 2 other top ten players who have made curious moves over the last few weeks that might also make waves.
The current silence is very loud.

Why? Tour doesn’t own any majors. They stand to benefit the most from being the only 4 events each year that brings ALL players together.

And don’t forget the DPWT to create the Rory rule just to make sure he could the play The Tour and still qualify for the Euro RC team.
He has all the early Bryson vibes everyone killed Bryson for, but he gets a pass because the press got all excited for a picture of him and Jordan when they were 12.
If he hadn’t been able to draft off Jordan early, he’d be PReed 2.0 to fans and press alike.
Interesting thought exercise, for which I’m sure I’ll get crucified…why is Cam Smith not allowed to play this week? Other non-members of PGAT are in the field. Why is he different? He didn’t breach any contract, he chose to not renew his PGAT membership, in much of the same…
@JoelMBeall
I might need help with the math, but is $900m split 180-ish ways (with questionable liquidity) more or less than $500m split zero ways?
From my view, Rahm and his team made the the best business decision of all time (with likely pathways soon enough to play the PGAT anyway)
Imagine being a Tour player, waking up this morning and hear this news after turning down 8 or 9 figures because JM, Rory and Tiger pressured you only to find out you could’ve had it all?
Gonna be weird in the locker room.
@CaddieNetwork
Considering this picture is taken from the tee box on a 345-411 yard hole, I’d say you should hit your tee ball first. Also this hole isn’t receptive to long iron approaches, so best to push to down there as far as you can and try to find the fairway.
At what point do the rest of the Tour players start pointing fingers at the ALL 22 who held the Delaware meeting. Those demands set the table for putting the Tour and sponsors on an unsustainable course.
Also, how are players who demand to be “made whole” for staying after…

While Hovland is putting, there’s a huge roar and the scoreboard updates to show Koepka going -6. He’s playing the best round of the day and the broadcast can’t be bothered to mention him.
An interesting side note to the whole USGA changing criteria issue brought up by
@PhilMickelson
is this - if LIV changed to meet the criteria of the OWGR, what’s to stop them from
moving the goal post? The USGA’s conduct shows they will change to exclude LIV, so why wouldn’t it…
It’s not up to him anymore. They have sold to SSG and it’s now in their hands. If players haven’t done the math yet - they will be less than 10% stakeholders in the new entity. They will have no say in any business decisions. Welcome to corporate life!
Justin Thomas backs up his boy Rickie Fowler in saying LIV guys shouldn't be able to return without some sort of penalty. "I would have a problem with it, and I think a lot of guys would have a problem with it."
Gotta wonder what SSG is thinking right now. There’s an actual tournament with actual PGA Tour players happening today and the Tour’s media account is focused on a 15 year old.
I hate to be “rules guy watching on TV” but Harry came in directly behind the line of play with Rory in the bunker there, and Rory didn’t “un-address” the ball or change his stance, and swung soon after.
@TheOpen
LIV Mayakoba got an assist from Mother Nature and was the only golf on TV for most of America today. It got a lot of eyeballs and delivered a playoff!
Can it keep the momentum going in Las Vegas against the WMPO?

Seems like we’re getting to the point where it’s time to get the story of how all this down out into the open.
The “smear campaign” has turned out to be nothing but posturing by players who didn’t jump. We’d love to let you share it all.
Lost in flurry of information today was Jimmy saying that the PGAT is basically 25 guys and LIV was gonna keep picking off 5 a year.
Shout out to the Mules!

Isn’t that EXACTLY what Jay has been begging people to do? The Tour above all? And the PGA media would immediately slander anyone who jumped.

@LouStagner
The only useful advice I got on a golf course from a guy in his 60’s was about holding on to money: “If it flies, floats or f@$&s - rent it.”
If the deal with the PGAT falls apart despite LIV having a purported $3B to put into it (player equalization + cash infusion) what’s to stop them from instead using that $3B to make a bid for a couple more key international players and buying the DPWT with an offer that would…
Question to the golf world - seeing as LIV has caused some tangible benefits to the Tour players, why is there a continued desire to see it fail?
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t, but when does the external push to try and force its demise end?
As golf looks on at the success in Adelaide and the excitement Australian golf fans had in seeing professional golf in their country, let’s not forget that if
@McIlroyRory
had his way, Australia never has this event and merely accepts the crumbs allowed by the PGAT.
@CaddieNetwork
Anyone saying it’s not a massive advantage hasn’t walked 18 holes for 4 straight days (more with practice rounds and the pro-am). Caddies help lighten the load but it’s still a lot of miles to walk and elevation to cover.

— Sir Nick Faldo sounds off on Jon Rahm’s Masters prep after moving to LIV: “He’s been playing resort courses for the last couple of months in shorts…. “He hasn’t really been tested. He’s gonna have to step it up to get the right intensity.”
Rory could probably end all the drama straight away if he’d just say “We’re not scared of LIV at all. I’d love to see them get full points and then we can see where fans and players want to be. I know where I’ll be and know in the end our product will win out.”

@chambleebrandel
based on this, how do you respond to Rory who was telling members of the PAC, “If we leave, you don’t have a Tour?”
The Tour brought ALL of this on by being stubborn and refusing to just listen to change. When will you acknowledge JM’s failure in this?
