I wrote about Scottie's relationship with the Lord. How even though it's not a gimmick to help him win major championships, the freedom and contentment he experiences because of his faith sure helps with winning major championships.
John Daly wheeling up to the green at a major with a cig in one hand, his putter in the other and a McDonald's cup in the cart. The American Dream distilled to a screenshot.
Imagine being this kid. You're 20, played high school golf and some in college golf, and your buddy surprises you by asking you to caddie in the Masters. Insane. Then he makes the cut and is the low am! Wild. All of a sudden you're shaking hands with the best to ever do it in his…
Ranked No. 5 in the world, made $9.4M this season, won a grueling event last night and now looping 36 for an old teammate today.
The best dude in pro sports.
A 63-year-old Larry Mize who averaged 230 off the tee playing in his final Masters beat a 28-year-old Bryson DeChambeau who averaged 310 off the tee at a place he once described as a par 67 for him this is the greatest sport on the planet.
Scottie Scheffler eight weeks ago.
• 0 wins in 70 PGA Tour starts
• $8.7M career earnings
• Ranked No. 14 in the world
Scottie Scheffler today.
• 4 wins in 76 PGA Tour starts
• $17.6M career earnings
• Ranked No. 1 in the world
• Masters champion
I'm sure Rory is pleased with the Tour rolling him out week after week to fight its battle so that, in the end, Phil, Brooks, Bryson and DJ could walk away with $500M and reunification with the league he defended.
Scheffler on whether the Cat had an influence on him: "I play Tiger's irons. I wear his shoes. I wore his shirt this week. Tiger on the golf course is ridiculous ... We're so glad to have him back."
Scheffler said he cried like a baby this morning because he was so stressed out. Said he told his wife he didn't think he was ready for the moment. Wow.
Rickie's trying to win the biggest, most stressful tournament of his life, just three-putted the last hole, did various media obligations for 30 minutes and is still signing everything in sight as darkness falls on LACC.
Pretty awesome stuff.
Rory's PGA Tour season ...
• Won CJ Cup
• Won Canadian Open
• Savaged Greg Norman
• Won Tour Championship
• 10 top 10s in 16 starts
• Top eight at all four majors
• $27 million earned
• Saved golf
Two signs of Tiger's greatness.
1. 12 months after browsing prosthetic legs you beat 75% of the best players in the world over two rounds at Augusta National.
2. The runaway leader and No. 1 player in the world wears your shoes.
Tiger Woods, who had played 24 holes of golf in 2024 before this week, just beat the following golfers over the first two rounds of the Masters.
Tyrrell Hatton
Brooks Koepka
Patrick Cantlay
Shane Lowry
Will Zalatoris
Jason Day
Phil Mickelson
Joaquin Niemann
Rory McIlroy
Tony…
Rory: "I was subpoenaed by his lawyer on Christmas Eve. Trying to have a nice time with my family and someone shows up on your doorstep and delivers that, you're not going to take that well. I'm living in reality, I don't know where [Reed is] living."
Homa: "I told my wife -- when we talk about things money can't buy, money cannot buy that feeling [on the 18th green], and that was something that I will remember forever, and I will tell anybody who ever wants to hear how that felt."
Such a great question from
@KVanValkenburg
, and it gets Tiger thinking and talking in a way you can tell is authentic and not canned. You can almost *see* him trying to work out his answer in real time. So good.
Scheffler's dad hugs his son who just became the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world: "I love you, Scott. I'm more proud of who you are than your golf. You're a wonderful young man." So awesome.
A kid legit just passed out right before Tiger teed off on No. 12. The roar after Tiger hit the ball seemed to revive him and he looks fine now. Scary.
A golf ball just fell out of a tree on 7 and almost hit me in the head. I looked over at the USGA official and he said “I bet it’s a Srixon.” It was. He said, “That was Hideki’s ball from the groups ago. We lost it in the tree.” Normal sport.
Just now seeing the 17th hole from the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship this weekend. With a Masters bid on the line, players have to take a boat (!) to a *true* island green that can't be reached any other way. Very normal stuff.
Watching Tiger absolutely rip people apart in his prime was great fun and terrific entertainment. Watching him proudly grind his way to a made cut at a major he has no chance of winning on nothing but stingers and resolve is a far more emotionally inspiring performance.
Players purse this week is comical.

There are more people following the Rory-Hovland-Fleetwood-Hatton group on Wednesday at Hoylake than there were on the entire grounds at LACC on Thursday and Friday combined.
