📣 In homage to (no) Masters week, I recreated the 4 most eye-popping moments in Masters history. Big takeaway for me was that none of these shots are as hard as they looked. Here’s Bubba from 2012. (Volume ⬆️) Check back tomorrow for Phil’s derring-do from 2010.

The most remarkable thing about St. Andrews Opens is the ease of access. One moment you’re on a quiet street corner in town, the next you’re green side at 18. No ticket required. It’s incredible. You can be literally a block away and have no idea the event is happening.
These guys bankrolled their trip to the Open — complete with an $18,000 rental by the 18th green! — by betting on the

On Saturday, they paid homage to their good fortune by wearing Kevon Looney jerseys to the Old Course.
Rod Fowler has plantar fasciitis, but that hasn’t stopped him from walking w his son.
“If he was 7 over, my foot would hurt really bad,” he told me Friday eve. “Right now I don’t even feel it. Must be the adrenalin.”
I spoke to Rod about Rickie’s revival
At the Masters, Tyrrell Hatton called Augusta National "unfair at times." Now, he's laying into Southern Hills' greens:
"We're playing a major...not a monthly medal. They're bubbling all over the place. It's so hard to hole putts. "

Close acquaintance is two-thirds of the way home to a seven-figure payout in a genius NCAA/Masters parlay. Don’t want to jinx him but feel like the heavy lifting is out of the way…
Patrick Reed's caddie, Kessler Karain, with some exceptionally tough love for his boss after a stray drive at 18.
"I could barely advance the golf ball, and my caddie [stares] at me in the face and [says], 'Your driving has cost us a lot this week.'"
couldn't love this anymore
Q. We don't know exactly what's going to happen this afternoon, but could you talk about Brian?
ZACH JOHNSON: Sure. Can you ask me some questions about Brian?

piece on LIV's rise:
"At the Masters one year, according to a person familiar with the conversations, [Saudi officials] asked about renting Augusta National’s clubhouse to host a meet and greet for top golfers. 'You can’t just do that,' the person said." 😂
Tiger’s net worth is ~$800m, which means the $100k putt he left short on the final hole of the Japan Skins represented about .0125% of his wealth.
The equivalent for a weekend hacker worth $97,300 (the median net worth of a U.S. household)?
A putt worth 12 bucks.
Paul McGinley just now on Sky Sports "Molinari's in a tough spot here today because EVERYONE'S expecting him to win."
Butch Harmon: "Even Mickelson." 🔥
So...Noonan wants a bag at the Open. No punchline here. Guy who played him —

— caddied at Winged Foot as a kid and says he's ready to take his looping to the next level. Knows the course better than Bushwood. Someone, PLEASE hire him! him!
With all due respect to Louis, Collin and Jordan, all eyes tomorrow should be on Bailey. As in Bailey Davis, who is vying to become the first Black female to win a USGA title in the organization’s 127-year history.

My 7-yr-old thought he made his first ace yesterday. (He hit a low heater that *just* missed the pin and vanished off the back off the green.) Making him the check the hole twice was probably not great parenting.
There’s a compound on the eastern point of Fishers Island, a few hundred yards from Fishers Island GC, that appears to have a short course in the backyard. After ogling it on Google Earth for 20 min, I’m ready to declare it the greatest golf pad on the planet.
Among the quandaries that keep me up at night: What is the appropriate number of tees to grab at the starter’s shack? Genuinely interested to hear Twitter’s take.
My kid’s soccer game this evening is at a repurposed golf course, on the site of what appeared to be a short par 4. I should be cheering him on but all I can think about is smoothing a 3-wood down the fairway. View from the tee:
Golf-umbrella management in crowded urban spaces doesn’t get enough attention. Shadowed this guy this morning and can report he was a pro’s pro, mastering (1) the courtesy lift, (2) tight corners, (3) not budging an inch in the face of a competitor.
The sand artist down on West Sands beach (next to Old Course) is from Oregon. Moved to St. Andrews a few years back and began caddying, and soon realized he was a wizard with a bunker rake. Now, he’s turned his talent into art.
The last tweet Norm Macdonald posted in his too-short life was about golf. That's not surprising. He was an absolute fanatic about the professional game. RIP Norm
Just watched Shipley greet his high-school sweetheart, Molly, and family after signing for his 73, four better than Tiger.
After hugging Molly and telling her he loved her, he looked up at the group and said what everyone was thinking:
"How cool was that?!"
My Bandon playing mates trying to locate a flagstick on the par-3 Preserve course earlier this week is a scene straight out of a Spielberg film. Fog + glare = 🤷♂️
DJ on why the Euros keep winning:
"They just play better. It's really simple. Whoever plays better is going to win. I mean, it's not rocket science."

On Tuesday, I went looking for answers!
The heckler who berated Phil in the 1st round of the USO did it again in the 2nd round. Then, on Saturday, he went after Brooks Koepka.
What gives a grown man the motivation and gall to rise in front of a hushed audience and say his piece?
I asked him.

Fun fact: Min Woo Lee and his big sis Minjee are the only sib combo to have each won a U.S. Junior Am. Minjee did in it 2012, and Min Woo four years later. Minjee has gone on to win 8 LPGA titles, including 2 majors. Min Woo has 2 DPWT wins and, well...let's what happens tmw
If you’re looking for a golfer to root for in 2022, start with Misha. Like millions of other Ukrainians, he and his family are innocent victims in a terrifying unnecessary war. He shared his story with me earlier this week.
Jason Kokrak, noted sentimentalist, just unloaded on Masters officials for, as he saw it, botching Sandy Lyle’s Augusta farewell. Great reporting via

The Rosie tributes have been overwhelming. Complete timeline takeover. One of the recurring themes: how many young media folk he assisted and mentored and encouraged. What a loss but also what a legacy. 🌹

gotta love the Masters
Love this question. And love the answer even more.
Q. What makes you nervous?
CAM SMITH: Not much, to be honest.
Q. That's part of the reason for the question.
CAM SMITH: Being offshore in a boat and the motor goes out makes me nervous.
Remarkable tribute from Bamberger. Equal parts heartwarming and heart-wrenching — and, he'll tell you, one of the most meaningful pieces he's ever written. If you don't get to it today, carve out an hour for it over the holidays.
one of the best developments of '23 is having Lucas Glover back in the press room

“Parts of it you could remove the ‘s.’”
on whether he'll scoreboard-watch in 4th rd:
“I never saw Belichick coach the fourth quarter without knowing the score.”
Find yourself a looper like Mo at Morris County (NJ) GC. My man kept four sets of clubs cleaner than a military latrine, worked wizardry on the tee boxes, and delivered yardages (*before* you’d arrived at your ball) via handwritten notes.
Neal Shipley's dad told me a 🔥 story about little Neal (outfit in Tiger gear!) attending a practice round at the 2007 USO at Oakmont. All Neal wanted was a high-five from his idol, but he never got it. On Masters Sunday, tho, he got something far better.
