UPDATE: As of 11:33 PM MT, California Zephyr Train 6, which departed Emeryville (EMY) on 01/29, will terminate at Denver (DEN) due to a recent vehicle incident involving an Amtrak Train. For further assistance, please call/text 1-800-USA-RAIL.
Today was a long day, there will be plenty of them this week. But here's a thread of all the stuff I caught today.
Starting off with FrontRunner over I-215
Some shots from my visit to Stadler today! What an awesome facility with awesome people. I did feel sad that they didn't let us take photographs inside. But the staff and employees there were amazing!
Oh, and quite a bit of them were excited to talk about

I do find it annoying. Because not everyone can move to the Netherlands or Switzerland. In fact, it's bad if we all do because of the housing crisis arising because of it. We should not abandon North America. But fight for a better one.
There has never been a meme like this one that has aged better and better the older it gets
John Oliver's video tonight bringing in a new wave of Elonites defending their lord and savior
Considering Frontrunner is a single route. I would say with the enhancements coming in the next decade. It's pretty much competing in terms of quality of service to Northeast and I would even say partially European services
I think something that many people forget about Stadler in Utah is that they make locomotives and vehicles that are suitable for Trax. I hope that UTA considers using at least one of these models in the near future. Or at least
#Utleg
starts pushing for more Utah-made trains!
Some additional photos! In particular, the Stadler FLIRTs that I and other people would be happy to tell you about how they would be perfect for UTA Frontrunner! Let's make it happen!

"doesn't even take up any land"
Bro, look at this map of SLC and tell me where the passenger stations are versus the Airport lol. The interstates take up much more land than the railroads as well
@RM_Transit
I did agree with the video that many people will complain about things without actually doing stuff. However, as City Nerd put it, can't really make a YT career off of that.
Your channel and others like Alan's inspired me to get active in city meetings. Wish others did too hwvr
The top 4 ranked on what we need to do in Transit:
1. Rio Grande Plan
2. Orange Line from the Airport to UofU
3. Better busses/more luxurious busses up the canyons
4. More Amtrak routes, intrastate and interstate
When the summer started I switched locations for work. Moving to downtown. This means I could use Trax. Here is my reflection after relying on Trax over a Car for most commutes
A Thread:
@UtahDOT
I'm glad there's a legal challenge on this. It felt very biased from the inception. Especially when companies that offered to help with trains or busses started coming out and saying that you overinflated the costs of the alternatives or put them at disadvantage.
The last Frontrunner I had to catch to complete my collection. I waited for most of the year to finally catch this train. Glad to catch it during one of it's test runs...
After doing the entirety of Bus Routes 972 and 994. I think I am more pro train up Little Cottonwood and pro bus lane up Big Cottonwood after my experiences today

You missed the point. She would've have been in no danger if the driver noticed the right of way was occupied. The lights were flashing, she is legally allowed to cross. It's the drivers responsibility to give the right of way to the pedestrian.
I mean, at least Utah has FrontRunner (which covers 80% of the State's population.) Which is the largest population in the region that didn't get a passenger train.
One of the most controversial discussions in Utah Urbanism and Railfanning is the debate around Salt Lake Central's future. The next video project (since Deseret Power is scrapped from a failed trip,) is the controversy and history of Salt Lake Central
@DrChrisCombs
As a rail enthusiast, I am frustrated that many Americans look at HSR when it's also just as important, or severely more important, That you have an excellent regional rail network that can take you to destinations in the area. Which most of America needs to improve on.
Every single person who doesn't like the long distance map I swear is from the NE corridor. Without fail I check someone who hates the idea and it's always the NE corridor lol

The best I can find is 5.1 billion back in 2021 that was going to the whole Illinois school system. For general use. 5.1 billion dollars just for one school is nuts
@ProfessorPowder
It's probably gonna lean in the 7-8 hours region (Desert Wind did.) It's not that bad. Especially since this is going to run on existing infrastructure. I'll happily take 7-8 hours if it that means not the stress of driving and having wifi and a table to get work done

Salt Lake 2002 still uses much of the facilities that were used for the Olympics. Helps a ton that Utah was already and still is a popular winter sports location. Park City still has high demand slopes. Really hope we get it again in 2030-34 for transit reasons

What's crazy to think that all the humans in those cars, based on average ridership per vehicle would fit in 1-3 of these trains
The Miracle is over. It's now time to act and save the lake. This is a combination of Satellite Photos taken on January 29th and 26th. Temporary artificial boosts like cutting off the northern half to save the southern half are definitely showing now.
I know the S-Line is the same model as Trax, but this was funny and cool to see.
Apparently passenger earlier in the day smashed a window on one of the S-Line cars

They start laying down tracks next year after a lot of time being spent on the structures and clearing the route. Slowly progressing towards a Merced to Bakersfield line in the next several years. San Francisco in the next decade potentially if we're optimistic
If you want gaps in the Amtrak system closed, especially after Corridor ID. The long distance study should be finished soon (Part one of it is the last image)
It hinges on federal funding, so get your reps on the up and up and tell them to fund routes.
