We're being railroaded into this coal bullshit whether we want it or not. 70% of Albertans are against it. I've looked at this thing inside out, upside down, and it's a terrible deal for the province. So, WHO is benefitting? Cuz it sure as hell ain't us.
Folks, recently there have been some alarming and significant changes to Alberta’s provincial Coal Policy, which open up the eastern slopes of our Rocky Mountains to potential open pit coal mining. For more info please read my post:
Alberta, our govt has just quietly let foreign coal-co Northback/Benga REAPPLY for coal & water rights @ Grassy Mtn, headwaters of Oldman watershed in a critical drought. They'll take drinking & ag H2O, ruin the rest & leave us a huge $$ mess. Info: Pls RT
In meetings with me about coal, AB govt ministers told me directly we should trust the regulating bodies and that we have the best regulations in the world.
Bullshit.
We want our water drinkable. Tell the foreign coal companies to pack up and go home.
Again? How many times do Albertans need to tell the foreign coal companies and our politicians NO? We don't want them using up and ruining our Ag & drinking water. We're in a multi-year drought. The whole thing feels very greasy and very corrupt to me.
The AB govt is allowing foreign coal company Northback to reapply AGAIN to pursue mining interests @ Grassy Mtn after being told NO by the Feds & the Prov AER. WHY?? Makes no sense. Vast maj of ABns DON'T want coal mines in our Rockies.
#Followthemoney
>
Ask anyone in southern Alberta Ag and they'll inform you about the deepening water crisis we're in. It's not a conspiracy, reservoirs are extremely low. A couple dumps of snow is a drop in the bucket.
Ruining/using up our scarce water for foreign coal profit is Anti-Alberta.
(For those of you not from Alberta or Canada, sorry 4 all the coal talk this week. A bunch of small family ranches are in the middle of a tough fight up here trying to stop the govt & foreign coal companies from wiping out their places and ruining everyone's water. Apologies.)
These folks have been waiting FOUR YEARS for this information they're entitled to. Gritty ranchers, indeed. Hell, yeah. What exactly about this coal business does our AB govt not want us to see?
I support no political party in any way, shape or form, sir.
I'm soft because I don't want my friends' generational ranches destroyed by foreign coal mines and the taxpayer to be on the hook for billions to clean up their mess? How is that being soft?
Please explain.
The Alberta government is proposing to reallocate billions of litres of water that could potentially be used by the coal mining industry. It's a move that is drawing criticisms from environmentalists and ranchers alike.

The Mayor of High River is 100% correct here. Calling Grassy Mtn a reclamation project is the foreign coal companies and the govt trying to bullshit people. You can't get selenium out of the water. Ask the Elk Valley in BC.
WE ARE IN A BRUTAL DROUGHT. HANDS OFF OUR WATER.
Hey Alberta, are your municipal candidates taking a stand to protect our Rockies from coal mining? Fight is far from over, sadly. Foreign coal company activities continue on the AB govt's watch. This will be a mess our grandkids will have to clean up and pay for.
Vote Monday.
The AB coal fight ain't over, despite the govt pretending that it is. And looks like the coal companies aren't even able to clean up the exploration mess. We're heading into an election. Tell candidates we want NO new coal mines ANYWHERE in AB.
#alberta
I was told repeatedly in meetings w/Mnstrs Nixon and Savage & Cdn Coal Assoc's Mr Campbell that we have the best mining regulations in the world to protect our water. Well, read this:

Call your MLAs.
Also, I didn't fly in on a jet from LA to say this, pal. I LIVE here. 6th gen Ag ABn. My family and friends and our animals drink the water downstream. We have every right to speak on this, and I plan to continue until these crooks go home.
@CorbLund
Avid outdoorsman here, how do pay for infrastructure/social programs/healthcare without an economy? Taxes? Most of us don't have your wealth and can't afford more taxes. You're starting to sound like neil young.
Alberta, now's the time to insist ALL candidates from ALL parties commit to honouring ABns’ wishes with strong legislation ASAP banning coal mining ANYWHERE near our Rockies. It’s a proven & massive threat to our drinking water & rivers. Please share vid:
This Fight Isn't Over. In my opinion, coal mining in the Eastern Slopes of our Rockies remains an imminent threat to our water and our mountains, despite government assurances.
For more info please read my post:
As an Alberta landowner this bullshit should get your attention. What if it were your place? They might spiff up a few golf courses but this is what the foreign coal companies are up to. Bullying of AB citizens by rich corporate thugs.
I've been told many times in my research that Teck are industry leaders in selenium contamination prevention and mitigation. I've also been told many times that we should trust new technologies and the coal companies and regulatory boards to protect our water. I do not.
Alberta, open pit coal mines are back. Great interview w High River Mayor Snodgrass about why they're a terrible idea for our water, why it makes NO financial sense & why we can't trust the govt or the AER to act in our interests. This is trouble. Pls RT
If AB govt wants to hold referendums, let's hold one on coal mines in the Rockies. Despite polling & public outcry, the govt doesn't seem to be getting the msg. Maybe this would clarify.
#CoalReferendumAB
Please RT.
Statement here:
I'm non-political myself, but conservative folks should be against coal mines in AB Rockies:
1. $Billions on the taxpayer for clean up
2. Net job loss when you count ag, tourism, guiding, outfitting, film, etc
3. Profit to foreign companies
4. Coal to CCP
Bad economics, no?
Thanks for your patience with all of the coal mine talk lately. Believe me, I'll be happy to get back to just playing music again, but this is too important. Watch the video to see the landscape we're fighting to save.
#SaveTheMountains
The narrative that mining Grassy is a reclamation project is complete bullshit from the govt and the foreign coal firms designed to fool the public. The footprint of the new mines is many times bigger than before. It's simple, they want the coal $$ and will say anything to get it
Danielle Smith has claimed that Northback wants to do their drilling on Grassy Mountain in order to remediate the previous mining site.
Guess what word doesn’t appear anywhere in their 48 page application…

When 1000s and 1000s of people, rural AND urban use the water downstream that the mines will use up and contaminate, yeah, the opinion of a handful of people that want the jobs means less, yes. Definitely.
@CorbLund
Seems like the people of crowsnest pass want the mines....but the opinion of the people that live in the area mean less than those that live in the major urban centers far from the area?
Alberta, we're fighting for our Ag water here. We're in a brutal drought and the foreign coal companies are relentless. The Feds and the prov AER denied them in 2021, the appeal was also denied & vast majority of ABns don't want this. Read below article:
Ok. Gotta wash those hands, properly and for at least 20 seconds. Now you COULD sing "Happy Birthday" twice to time it, but I have a much better idea. Observe...

EVERYBODY should complete the current Alberta govt coal survey. Takes 5 min. As flawed as it is, it has sections to use your own words, so tell them what you think. Deadline April 19th. DO IT!!
I WANT: no new coal mines anywhere near our Rockies or our drinking water. And not an acre of it is my land. I'm lending my voice to stand w/ a number of small scale ranch families who's places will be wiped out by foreign coal firms. I'm not associated with any political party.
Reason
#58
that new coal mines in Alberta aren't economically or ecologically defensible. Not to mention we're in a brutal drought around here. Water is serious business.
A former coal mine in the Alberta Rockies is releasing a toxic contaminant at rates dozens of times higher than guidelines, another periodically disgorges water so iron-heavy it stains local creeks orange, says research by provincial govt scientists
#ableg
I'm with the ranchers on this. This whole coal idea is a disaster that's going to change the face of Alberta permanently. Call your MLAs and tell them what you think. Now's the time to make some noise because these people are coming hard and fast.

The people that made me aware of this coal situation in Alberta were small scale family ranchers and farmers. Coal mining in our Rockies poses a great threat to many of their livelihoods. I'm with them on this. Stop the exploration and no more coal mines.
Agreed. I'm not anti-resource. But not every project makes sense, & this one absolutely doesn't. Ag & tourism job loss + guaranteed massive water cleanup bill massively outweigh the handful of jobs this may provide. Not to mention using up & ruining water during critical drought.
Sooo... Charley Pride and Kenny Rogers and John Prine and Joe Diffie and Johnny Bush and Jerry Jeff and Charlie Daniels and KT Oslin and Mac Davis. Brutal. Feels like half my heroes got wiped out. Screw you, 2020.
I've spent 100s of hours with just the people you mention. I'm very familiar. This project isn't going to be a net $$ gain for AB. Gonna lose ag and tourism jobs and our kids as taxpayers will fund the cleanup, 100%. Also, my friends and family & I drink the water downstream.
@CorbLund
Do you have a background of any science like geology or environmental science? Any mining experience or government enviro regs? Or knowledge of the tax or job benefits that finance albertas schools, hospitals,healthcare, roads, disabled, infrastructure? No your a entertainer
I'm not against resources. But every project has to be looked at re: its own merits. And this coal in the Rockies thing is a stupid idea that's bad for Alberta. It's a foreign ripoff. The benefits come nowhere near the huge cost to us, including our water. In a critical DROUGHT,
Hey everybody...I'm excited and honoured to announce my Grand Ole Opry debut in Nashville on April 5th! (well, technically announcing my debut for the SECOND time...thanks, Covid..) Tickets on sale now. Hope to see ya there.

Lost one of my favourite people this morning, my aunt Connie. She was a badass: ran the ranch, pretty handy with a rifle, was the first Miss Rodeo Canada in 1955 and Runner up for Miss Rodeo USA the same year. Figures largely in “Truth Comes Out.” Miss ya, Auntie, ride easy. 😔
How about when they personally live downstream from potential coal mines operated by foreign companies that don't give a damn about Albertans and will almost certainly contaminate the drinking water? shut up and drink it? No thanks, pal.
One of the family buckles. "Calgary Stampede 1939 - Canadian Champion All Round Cowboy Winner - Clark Lund". Don't see many of those around. Had to work both ends for the All Round, too. Nice work, Grandpa. ("Presented by Calgary Brewing and Malting" is a nice touch...)
All Albertans who are concerned about our water during drought and about fiscal conservatism should use this and submit a Statement of Concern to the provider govt. CC the premier, Brian Jean, Rebecca Schultz and your MLA. Cleanup is gonna cost us a TON of $$ in future.
Hey everyone! Wanna help save the Crowsnest Pass from the sneaky back-door Benga deal to restart the Grassy Lakes mining process?
@cpawssab
has a handy-dandy letter you can send to the Minister of Energy. DO IT BEFORE TOMORROW PLEASE!

#abpoli
How about the 100s of 1000s of people it affects downstream who use and drink the water they'll ruin? And the loss of Ag and Tourism jobs? And the all but guaranteed massive cleanup bill left for the taxpayer? No fiscal conservative should be in favour of this particular ripoff.
This wknd is LAST chance for AB coal survey, closes Apr 19. It's BS, but take it anyway, esp the comments parts, eg; 1) INCLUDE WATER! 2) stop ALL exploration NOW 3) real First Nations input 4) no coal mining in our Rockies. It's urgent; be LOUD. Retweet!!
This is important. Deadline in two days. Albertans (and Canadians) of all ages should sign this petition if they don't want their drinking water threatened and the Rockies torn up by foreign coal companies.
Alberta, this article's worth reading. Blown away that the foreign Grassy Mtn coal project is STILL being considered after it was rejected last year by Feds, Prov AER & overwhelmingly by the public. AER should act in OUR interest. How maybe times we gotta say NO to these crooks??
In light of the past year’s developments regarding open pit coal mining here in Alberta, I have come together with some of Alberta’s greatest country music veterans to release a new version of ‘This is My Prairie,’ a song I wrote many years ago.
Hey folks, happy to announce that I'll be opening a show for my Saskatchewan pal
@ColterWall
on Dec 10th 2021 at the Ryman in Nashville. Tickets are on sale now, get yours. Canadian prairie night at the Mother Church, see ya there...
Anyone who cares about the taxpayer should be against coal. Once the foreign companies find it unprofitable and leave I almost guarantee we'll be on the hook for billions to clean it up. We've all seen how this stuff works. Sorry, I gotta stand with the ranch families on this.
@CorbLund
We can’t all be singers Corb. You are fighting against jobs for Albertans. There is already coal mining happening in the Rockies, the drinking water is fine. With technology and regulations a new mine will have little to no impact whatsoever on the water.
Hey folks, guess what? Part 7 of 'The Ranch' is out today, and yours truly makes an appearance in episode 2. I play a bar patron; a real stretch... I didn't get any lines, BUT I was the only one who got to drink real beer during the scene. And....there were many multiple takes.
Advice for young songwriters? Never, under any circumstances recite a list of cattle breeds in one of your songs because until you die you will hear about the breeds you missed... 😉

Sorry but I don't trust government entities much to protect me. Wish I had your faith in them. From what I've seen they often don't behave in the public's interest. See: 'Regulatory Capture'.
Coal mine Corb knows so much about the project but selectively ignores it’s an existing mine they are reactivating.
Let’s let the experts at the regulator decide. Not this country bumpkin.

We're not gonna pay for shit with this project, there's hardly anything in it for AB. I'm not anti resource. But not EVERY project makes sense. Have YOU looked at the numbers on this? And included the inevitable cleanup on the taxpayers tab? And the impact on Ag and Tourism?
@CorbLund
Avid outdoorsman here, how do pay for infrastructure/social programs/healthcare without an economy? Taxes? Most of us don't have your wealth and can't afford more taxes. You're starting to sound like neil young.
(NON-CDNs PLS DISREGARD): We've been told over and over to trust AB govt & regulators on coal mine selenium. Read this. Another great example of their work. NO NEW COALMINES IN THE ROCKIES. And this ain't political...our families have to drink the water.
Certainly. Makes great sense for the foreign coal companies and for whatever politicians have been 'lobbied'. But not for Albertans. Dirty business. Generational ranch families who've been excellent conservationists for 100+ yrs have the moral authority here, not politicians.
Great assessment here, pls read. Couldn't have said it better myself; "Distrust is rampant." Hey Govt of AB, are you listening to us?(Future leaders, too...) We are your bosses and Albertans don't want ANY new coal mines ANYWHERE in our Rockies, full stop.
It was a thrill and an honour to kick off Canada Night at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last night with Time To Switch To Whiskey. Felt appropriate. (Plus it's the only way I'll ever get within a thousand miles of an NFR buckle in this lifetime...)
