Dear
@JustinTrudeau
, Please make any provincial health care transfers conditional to a public system. Many Albertans don’t trust the current UCP government to spend it wisely. They’re standing idly by, watching the system collapse while openly musing about privatization.
Explain it to me like I’m a five-year-old: Why aren’t vaccines being administered almost around the clock while supplies last? Who made the decision to pause vaccinations for the holidays? Will that person be replaced by someone more competent?
Ouch. An Alberta police force would cost an extra $157 million per year on top of $366 million in transition costs and the loss of $170 million per year from the feds. Alberta can't afford the UCP.
Tonight I suggested (strongly) that the City of Calgary stop waiting for permission from the Province and take vaccinations to the people. Pop-ups at train stations, libraries, grocery stores, anywhere the people are.
We have absolutely nothing to lose.
Dear
@NHLFlames
@NLLRoughnecks
@WHLHitmen
, you’ve been given $300,000,000 of public funds for a new arena. Surely you can afford pay your staff during this crisis.
BREAKING: In an email to part-time and event staff, CSEC (owner of the Flames/Hitmen/Roughnecks) says those employees will not be paid for cancelled shifts beyond this past Thursday.
I’ve obtained a copy of the full email and will have a story up in the morning.

Rachel Notley is one of the good ones. She is in politics, not for power or prestige, but to serve the people of Alberta with honour, integrity, and compassion.
Thank you
@RachelNotley
. Alberta is a better place because of you.
For many of our fellow Albertans, the threat from COVID is still very real. 14% of Canadians (w/ transplants, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, MS, Crohn’s, cancer…) are more vulnerable to severe infection.
I will continue to wear a mask to protect them and the people I love.
Nobel Prize Winner: Reducing taxes to boost investment is a myth spread by businesses, “You are giving incentives to the rich who are already sitting on tons of cash.”
Thirty more fellow Albertans died today. Many died alone. Thirty more families grieve. Alone. No, we haven't "flattened the curve". They're FIELD HOSPITALS not "alternative care centres". Listing comorbidities alongside deaths shows contempt for life. This misery was preventable.
Heard at the door yesterday from a life-long Progressive Conservative on why they're considering voting
@albertaNDP
for the first time, "I'm not leaving the conservatives. The conservatives left me."
Yesterday, it was a demeaning video. The day before, $20B boondoggle. Before that, interference in the justice system... Canada Pension Plan... Fund-raise for medical bills... Stage 4 cancer is YOUR fault... Athabasca U... Alberta Police Force... Sovereignty Act (for straws)...
Alberta is in crisis and out of 61 UCP MLAs the only ones to speak out are the anti-vaxxers. The rest are either cowards or complicit or they’re lurking in the wings (while their constituents die) for Kenney to fail. The perversity of it stunning.

If the UCP think it’s appropriate to put Provincial issues on the municipal ballot, they should add a question on whether Albertans support strip-mining on the Eastern slopes.

A scene from Wynnona Earp is being filmed on my street. The film industry employs a heck of a lot of people as evidenced by all the preparation. Economic diversification is not a luxury. (I also want 🔥 on my car).
Name it. With symbols of hate and white supremacy on proud display, it’s time for everyone to call out and denounce the real purpose of the weekly marches in Calgary.
I have a few questions:
🦠Why did the Premier wait for public outrage to act?
🦠Did he only discipline those who got caught? Are there more?
🦠More Alberta politicians have broken the rules than any other province. What are his plans to change the culture of entitlement?

I finally convinced someone I love to get vaccinated. They weren’t anti-vaxx but had been convinced by friends that on-line treatments were better than the vaccine. It took many gentle conversations and reminders but it finally happened. We can’t give up on people.
In this brutally cold weather a record number of Calgarians are living in tents. How about in 2022 we all agree that housing is a human right and we have the knowledge and the means to end homelessness.
Yesterday at a press conference about children's Tylenol from Turkey, Premier Smith/Minister Copping refused to answer questions on the pediatric health crisis. Both Deputy Chief Medical Officers of Health have now resigned. Health care is in free-fall. The UCP is unfit to lead.
Here, I fixed it for you

My heart goes out to our neighbours in BC who have been impacted by catastrophic flooding and mudslides. Please know that Alberta is here for you.
Never make deaths from opioids a partisan issue. We’re experiencing a public health crisis & supervised consumption sites save lives. If there’s a better idea, let’s hear it. If crime is an issue, help by restoring the police budget. Help by funding prevention. Fight poverty.
More and more data confirms that the NDP drug sites have hit local communities with an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour.
We can’t ignore the social and economic impact.
On Aug 23, Colorado announced it would give a $100 Walmart gift card (while supplies last) to any unvaccinated Coloradan aged 12 and up. At the end of two weeks, Colorado boosted its vax rate by 1%.
Incentives don't work. Proof of vaccination does.
NEW:
- 678 new COVID cases in Alberta on 9215 tests (7.4%+)
- 2 new deaths
- 184 in hospital (+8), incl 48 in ICU (+4)
- 5933 active cases (+306)

I met a young couple while out canvassing in Cougar Ridge yesterday who've made the hard decision to leave Alberta. They're worried about their kids' education and health care under the UCP. They're hanging on to their property and hope to return with a change in government.
Apparently this needs reposting today. Dudes who are strangely obsessed with controlling women’s bodies, read up.

I was brought up in a Progressive Conservative household with rural Saskatchewan roots. My family was strong supporters of Lougheed and his party. The values of the Alberta NDP are the same values I was raised on.

radicalized minds are blown. They can’t comprehend how former PC deputy premier could now endorse the NDP.
Easy. It’s called doing the right thing for Albertans and swallowing your own tribal ego.

The Alberta we know and love cannot survive another term of UCP policies. Entire systems we've taken for granted as rights are being intentionally dismantled. Emerging industries are being hobbled. Alberta is being ruled by greed and grievance while more people suffer.
There are two women in this video about Alberta jobs. One is an elderly patient and the other is the narrator. The absence of women in these advertisements is a feature, not a bug.

Is it a surplus when families are choosing between housing or food, or can’t find a family doctor, when surgeries are being cancelled and ambulances aren’t available when needed, when more people are living on the street than ever & inflation is making it hard to get by? Is it?
Today The City did the right thing to protect Calgarians with: mask bylaw, advocate to the Province for a vaccine passport, vaccine outreach, & business support, consider the creation of a Municipal Medical Officer of Health, and require proof of vaccinations for City staff.

I just recommended to senior City Administration that all councillors should be required to pass an ethics course including anti-bribery/corruption and harassment training. To all the new councillors, if you see something, say something.
Every Albertan should be freaking out about this. UCP tables amendment that would give itself the power to access your health records. Why would a politician want to see your health records, you ask? I’ll leave that up to your imagination.

I find this heartbreaking. This kind of puerile behaviour not only demeans the office of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, it's disrespectful to Canadians. We need to expect better from our elected officials.
Today we drove to the Kananaskis to clear our heads from all the tragedy. A gentle cycle on the Bill Milne Trail recharged my soul. Dammit, Alberta is beautiful! She might break your heart but she’s worth fighting for.
