The City has officially confirmed it will observe the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation on Sept 30. To mark the importance of the day the City will permanently raise the flag of the Wolostoqiyik people outside City Hall & close non-essential services
Downtown Fredericton is looking a little brighter today! Two additional colours were painted in the rainbow crosswalk, black and brown, which represent the inclusion of BIPOC in the LGBTQ+ community. You can attend the raising of the PRIDE flag on July 10 at City Hall at 1pm.
City Council has confirmed that the corner of King St and Regent St will be the home of the capital’s new Performing Arts Centre. The location, in the heart of the city’s vibrant downtown, is next to the site of the new provincial justice building. More:
With Pride celebrations over for the year, City crews are now working alongside St. Mary's First Nation members today to install two crosswalks in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. One is on Queen St outside City Hall, the other is on Maliseet Dr.
We join all Canadians in offering heartfelt condolences to the families, residential school survivors and all those affected by the discovery of the remains of 215 children in Kamloops, BC. Tomorrow, municipal flags will be lowered to half mast to commemorate these tragic deaths.

At noon today, St. Mary’s First Nations Chief Allan Polchies, Jr. and community dignitaries gathered in front of Fredericton City Hall to permanently raise the Wolastoqey flag as a way to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
Fredericton’s new City Council has been sworn into office at a special meeting held in Council Chamber at City Hall. The Council, which will include Mayor Kate Rogers, the City’s first female Mayor, five new councillors and seven returning councillors.

Congratulations to current Fredericton Deputy Fire Chief Dwayne Killingbeck, who's been named as the City of Fredericton’s new Fire Chief. He replaces out going Fire Chief Paul Fleming, who retires on March 15, 2019.
Introducing Connected by St. Mary's First Nation artist Percy Sacobie, commissioned in 2019 for the City's permanent art collection. The piece,inspired by Sacobie's rich Wolastoqey culture, is now installed in City Hall. We're proud to support Indigenous artists in our community.

, City Council has voted to declare two parcels of City land surplus and sell them to build affordable housing micro-units. The two properties are located at 551 Regent St & 155 St. Mary’s St.

The City has committed to supporting the preservation of the Wolastoqey language, culture and history by offering access to two city-owned facilities at Killarney Lake Park for the establishment of Kehkimin, a Wolastoqey Land-Based Immersion School.
The City and CUPE Local 508 outside workers have reached a tentative agreement on wages tied to CPI NB. The five-year deal provides $1/hour + 2.13% CPI NB for 2019, and wage increases for next four years equal to CPI NB.

📢 Big News! The Government of New Brunswick has announced that construction of the long-anticipated roundabout at the intersection of Brookside Drive and Route 105 will begin this summer.
Fredericton’s ‘Watermark’, the City’s high water mark sculpture along the Saint John River was updated today to mark last spring’s historic flooding. Artist Gerald Beaulieu, creator of ‘Watermark’, installed the new marker at 8.31 meters, to reflect the May 2018 flood levels.
A temporary public art installation called Fish Wish is now on display in Phoenix Square at City Hall. The installation, by Fredericton area artist Jean Hudson, involves 240 recycled aluminum cans, some collected from the banks of the Saint John River. 🐟

The City's recently announced agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada gives permission to install wooden nest boxes on City owned land. These boxes provide the ideal home for wood ducks hooded mergansers & common goldeneye to nest.

Robbie’s back! The Robert Burns Memorial Statue, initially unveiled in 1906, was re-installed at the new Beaverbrook Art Gallery sculpture garden today (May 19). The statue was the first public statue erected in Fredericton and in our beautiful province. Welcome home, Robbie!

The final design for an exciting, destination-level downtown all-wheel sport plaza was presented to the public at City Council with rave reviews from the Fredericton skateboard community. Construction begins this summer; expected to be completed in fall.
The City has announced plans to take ownership of the former Craigs Automotive site on Woodstock Rd after agreeing to buy the property for $1.00. This allows us to begin remediation efforts & revitalize the property for future development opportunities.

The Westmorland Street Bridge ramps are all back open and the traffic pattern is back to normal. Traffic on Queen Street must yield to traffic approaching on Westmorland Street.
Local artist, Emma Hassencahl-Perley, has been selected to create a mural for the Fredericton’s 104th Regiment of Foot Bridge located at the end of Carleton St. Her design will draw upon traditional Wabanaki (People of the Dawn) motifs found in beadwork.

The work included the removal and reinstatement of the timber deck system as it was in poor condition.
Finally – it’s patching season! Hot mix asphalt is now available, which means we have our crews out working on repairing potholes across the city. Weather permitting, City crews will be out throughout the season getting our roads and streets patched up.☀
