City Council has confirmed that the corner of King St and Regent St will be the home of the capital’s new Performing Arts Centre. The location, in the heart of the city’s vibrant downtown, is next to the site of the new provincial justice building. More:

58 million for a maximum of 1200 seats seems pretty steep. Seems this could be done for way less money, with enough to give the area a decent pool that would be utilized by far more than a small percent of the population.

Building a new Performing Arts Centre does not prevent the City from pursuing other goals like a regional pool, infrastructure, etc. The City’s sound financial management means that we can pursue several major projects at once.

So many struggling out there to make ends meet…Homelessness ⬆️. City taxes are way ⬆️! And yet full speed ahead on this spending boondoggle. Latest est > $70M now? I don’t understand it when you can spend a few million in proper maintenance of the existing Playhouse.

Crazy that we have homeless sleeping on the street and all Fredericton can do is harass them with the cops while dropping millions on vanity projects. Fredericton doesn't even fund the soup kitchen let alone provide housing to those most vulnerable and in need
@CityFredGov
Seems a little bit arrogant and out of touch with reality. I hope the rich and entitled people enjoy it, maybe they can just increase our property taxes and gas prices to help pay with it. Our country is run by a trust fund child, is our city.
