It’s okay if Bill Gates is short Tesla. It only has an average ESG rating and is “misaligned” with climate goals. So long as he is long an equivalent amount of Shell Oil—higher ESG rated than Tesla—then there is no hypocrisy at all. All good.

Very hard to conceptualize a ~5,000x capability improvement (our ~2025 expectation for neural nets.) To give you a sense *compared to the 2007 original* this year's iPhone will likely be between ~200x (on a CPU basis) and ~3,000x (on a GPU basis) more performant

We believe the cost to train a neural net will fall 2.5x per year through 2030. AND we expect budgets to continue to balloon, doubling annually at least through 2025. Combine the two: Neural net capability should increase by ~5,000x by 2025

@elonmusk @CathieDWood @ARKInvest People often compare S&P market cap to US GDP: apples to oranges (since companies sell global and domicile is decreasingly vital to distribution footprint).

Relative to other automakers, Tesla has pretty severe geographic sales concentration. The partnership with GM and Ford will allow the company to underwrite supercharging network density in areas where they are currently under-penetrated from a units perspective.

Sell a $25k car Yield an optimistic $2.5k in income once Deploy a robotaxi @ $1 per mile Yield $25k in income annually* 1 robotaxi is worth 50 $25k car sales on a present value basis Indications that Tesla more confident in the latter model are massively positive! *lots of…

From Tesla AI day FSD is trained on 4.8 million clips Perhaps 70k driving hours (assuming each clip ~= 1 minute) Tesla’s fleet is driving ~5 million hours per day! The importance of the dojo supercomputer is to allow Tesla to more completely exploit its data abundance

Tesla prints a quarter with continued cost-scaling *and* pricing power announces a way to route around cell supply scaling issues (by using LFP) that other OEMs are incapable of (+ the US gov’t announces massive EV subsidies) Obviously the entire stock move is Hertz-related

We believe the cost to train a neural net will fall 2.5x per year through 2030. AND we expect budgets to continue to balloon, doubling annually at least through 2025. Combine the two: Neural net capability should increase by ~5,000x by 2025

We believe that through 2030 the cost to train a neural net is going to halve every 9 months And That the market for AI software will exceed the entire global IT budget by multiples by 2030 And 2 weeks after publication I am already concerned that we were too conservative

Tesla had a good January (at least in terms of web traffic -- up ~20% YoY over a difficult price-cut-driven Jan '23 compare, and the highest datapoint going at least back to December of 2020, so likely the highest in its history) NB: In January of '21 Tesla hosted a job fair…
