I see you’re living in a tent with your partner and your dog. Would you like to surrender your dog and sleep alone on a mat in a gymnasium? We’ll throw out all your belongings for free
When people reject offers of shelter, we should be able to enforce city laws. Last week, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the City agreed in court with this point. This was a huge step.
@buttpraxis
There were a ton of studies in the 70s and 80s linking coffee to heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke and then they were like, whoops! forgot to control for cigarette smoking!
Housing is the answer, not jails.
The barriers to making market-rent housing out of office buildings are pretty high but why not make indoor navigation centers where people can live with their families
Would you accept a “shelter offer” that requires you to leave your pet behind?
What about an “offer” with a strict curfew that means you can’t work your job?
What if this “offer” requires you to trash most of your belongings?
Proper housing is the only solution.
Lotta Muni “fare cop” stories today—Some Reminders:
• they’re not cops and don’t have authority to detain you
• walk away or disembark before actual SFPD shows up, & if they do, don’t talk
• fare evasion is under the traffic code, not criminal. It’s a parking ticket

Yoooooo I just saw a young Italian tourist couple checking into an RV parked on Alabama Street as a motherfuckin Airbnb
Folks, we have achieved the gentrification of homelessness
@jzux
talking about the weather is fun and important and a good way to bond with strangers and catch up with friends, and if you think it’s boring, you’ve probably never done any real work
You can ask them to give you a warning instead of a fine. You can ask for your fine to be reversed. You can get your fine reversed if you buy a low-income pass or sign up for a free program. But you shouldn’t have to do any of that, because transit should be free.

Found out an old friend of mine died of fear. you could call it second-hand COVID.
He had asthma; he got laid off from his job as a bartender.
The anxiety gave him such a severe asthma attack that he had a heart attack and died on a ventilator.
2 COVID tests were negative.
• Remember! you didn’t pay because you forgot your wallet, so you don’t have an ID or your Clipper card
• Your Muni fare name is the last name of your favorite corrupt SF Official + the line you’re riding (Nuru Masonic, Jenkins Church, etc)

the problem is the “fallout” comes after lives lost, families broken up, more people homeless because they lost their jobs and apartments during lockup
@LolitaGracexx
I know this isn’t the point and I don’t want to be a huge bummer, but a friend of mine just died in a house fire and there are literal headlines in the Des Moines Register about the fact he had no working smoke detectors
this is grim, and it’s the externality of gentrification we’ve been banging the drum about for years
a profitable, beloved business that owns their building and pays good wages & benefits simply can’t staff their shop, so they have to close
looking at the Burning Man reddit like OK you CANNOT read this all day.
I am extremely interested to know whether any of the techie indoor compounds are letting commoners shelter with them
Of all the excellent points made in this article, one stands out as a counter to the proposal’s own champions:
To the people who think shoplifting and car break-ins are the scourge of the city, how will taking welfare away from the poor *decrease* theft of property?
On Mayor Breed's forced drug testing of welfare recipients:
“I’ve known people on welfare and I’ve known people at City Hall,” said longtime SF political consultant Eric Jaye. “There are many more people at City Hall who are high on drugs.”

Hey DeYoung have you taken into account those of us former members and visitors who will never darken your doorstep again because you’re advocating for pollution and traffic deaths?
My name is Ice Box and I'm here to say
Somebody took your plums away
They were so cool they were ice ice cold
So delicious and sweet they made your husband bold
He was so sorry, he left you this verse
He stole your plums, but it could be worse

. Sheriffs said they’re on their way. Folks out here deep. Holding space. This is a historical moment. It’s beautiful. I’m sure the sheriffs will come at 5am or a time people leave. So they need people presence.

Dean Preston could post “I’m enjoying a peanut butter sandwich today!” and his replies would be like “No jelly? PB & fentanyl? Are you going to invite all the drug addicts to have a sandwich with you in your mansion? It’s your fault peanut butter is unattainable for families!”
What's gone under the radar in the Cambridge Analytics story is that 320,000 people were so hype to get $2-$5 that they logged into their personal FB accounts, took a personality test, and signed away their personal info
This is one of those AITA posts where you read the headline (what do you mean LET HER choose her clothes) and then you screech to a halt and reverse when you read the text

I was sitting on the sidewalk outside MOMA and there was John Waters, pacing casually but studiously up and back so no one would approach him. Who was he waiting for? Andie MacDowell.
BREAKING: San Francisco is going to have a different mayor every day for Pride Month. Jane Kim. Bevan Dufty. The Tamale Lady. Swan. Driver Doug. Chicken John. Julia Allison. Anne Kihagi.
They also stole the pie off his windowsill. The iPad is wrapped in a bandanna and tied to a stick, maybe he can catch them before they hop a freight train to nowhere

I believe Jasmine is talking about Faceapp, the one that uses machine learning to transform your face into stereotypes of different demographics.
I think you’re talking about Facebook?
A friend of mine told me last night that for YEARS when her friends said they "listened to The Mountain Goats," she didn't know it was a band
She thought her friends were listening ... to recordings ... Of goats 🎶🐐
Honestly capitalism killed him, the fear of dying poor or broke, underinsured, and in a hospital. And he did. And I am so angry.
We shared thoughts like these and I am going to let them burn like a candle.
RIP, pal. May we have justice in your name. What is remembered, lives.

Also when a park or beach closes at sunset, that’s different from closing at dusk, which is civil twilight, which is before it’s perceivably dark. So both people and cops need to know what time it is for that purpose.
