@PeteButtigieg
Without even reading this blocked bill, I can already tell this generosity towards veterans would have come wrapped with 20 different partisan agendas. You guys don’t do any good stuff in isolation so that you can guilt trip reps to pass other policies they oppose.
Shahzaib Rind:
-Refused to insult India in the presser even when Rana Singh was throwing insults at Pakistan.
-Said he would answer in the ring.
-KOed the guy in 8 seconds.
- Carried both flags for peace.
This kid has amazing parents. Mashallah.
Rana Singh looked helpless against Shahzaib Rind as Pakistan beat India 2-1 in Karate Kombat. Shahzaib Rind carried flags of Pakistan and India together to give a message of peace.
I’m very glad to see Saudi getting its act together in my own lifetime. Truly incredible to think that you could get arrested for playing music in your own car just 9 years ago.
Liberalisation in Saudi benefits artists not only from West to perform but also honours artists from India for their contributions towards entertainment industry. Don't b surprised many things to follow soon hold tight.
Sufiism remains the most memed, romanticized and misunderstood aspect of Islam. People think it’s just hippies getting high and singing songs about god.
Everyone from Mehmet the Conqueror to Aurangzeb Alamgir to Islamist-extraordinaire Allama Iqbal was a Sufi.
A Muslim integration from Islam to Sufism is needed.
Sufism is the counterforce to political Islam, the peaceful and moderate alternative.
Sufism is not concerned with conquering the "external world", but rather mastering the inner world. A gift to the world.
Sufism is not
One summer, my mom took her wedding planning business to Lahore. Unlike Karachiites, Lahoris didn’t nickel and dime her; “Money no object, we just want a grand wedding”. They never said no to any expense. It’s been 10 years and she’s still only recovered half that money 😂.
The biggest issue in doing business in Pakistan for a young startup that nobody talks about is payments. No, not the payment gateways and mechanism, getting paid for your work.
If you work with a MNC, expect to be paid in 9 months.
If you work with a Telco, the process...
ISIS murdered radical violent Jihadism as a mainstream concept. Whereas Al Qaeda had spawned some theories of (anti-imperial) justification within the Islamic world, ISIS was so fucking crazy that everyone just freaked out and said ew no way that’s us.
This sounds all scary and aggressive, but I think ISIS was pretty clearly the peak for the idea of violent radical Islam in the modern age. Muslims around the world saw how much ISIS sucked, and Muslim armies destroyed ISIS.
Within 9 years, I’ve seen the entire blue collar class in Toronto be taken over by brown people. Tim Hortons, Uber drivers, condo concierge, mall security, janitors et al. It’s almost Middle East-esque. The people most upset by this are middle and upper class brown people.
It’s hard to express just how fucking nice and hospitable Saudi people are.
Makes me feel bad for how the world has mischaracterized the whole country as a bunch of snooty, superiority ridden assholes, when in reality they’re just so lovely.
Jinnah was a man of staggering stature. Quite possibly the greatest Muslim man in several centuries of South Asian history.
Any such figure will inevitably command reverence and near-worship in a land where even total randos are hero-worshipped.
@GoldwagNathan
Many examples of minorities siding with the empire knowing full well what would happen if their nation’s majority took power. This in turn further villainized the minority in the eyes of the nationalist majority, like a self fulfilling prophecy.
@MazMHussain
It’s particularly amusing when South Asians try to flex on their heritage of having invented XYZ, because in most cases that fact was discovered by an Englishman in the 19th century. For example, we didn’t know what the Indus Valley Civilization was until a hundred years ago.
Words can’t describe how bad Imran was for Pakistan’s foreign relations. It’s like if you gave geopolitical control to your average Overseas Pakistani uncle.
Yes, he is unbelievably popular among voiceless, regular joes across the Muslim world, but this came at a huge cost.
The only Muslim countries you'll ever hear these guys actually praise are Iran and Afghanistan. Imran Khan and SMQ brought relations with the Saudis to an absolute low, which were then fixed by Bajwa and Asim Munir.
Modi’s assertion that he is the cause of Pakistan’s worries really only works if you think that Dawnleaks alone led Pakistan to its current economic state. In reality, India hasn’t been a relevant domestic political force in Pakistan since Oct 2016.
@fesshole
Friend of mine who only eats halal said he wanted to try a kobe beef steak once in his life but couldn’t find halal options. I bought a piece, told him it was halal, and fed him. He’s still alive and I’m going to hell, but he was so happy that day.
@BiruniKhorasan
I don’t get the dispute tbh. Koh i Noor goes to the victor. Britain won it the same way the Sikhs, Afghans, Persians, Mughals, Khiljis and Kakatiyas did. The conqueror’s stone.
@MHuzaifaNizam
I find it interesting because you can contrast this with Top Gun Maverick, where they made an entire blockbuster movie about an Air Force operation without once mentioning which country they were fighting.
@MazMHussain
On my dad’s dad’s side of the family, daughters are a very rare thing. I’m one of 3 brothers, my dad one of 5, grandad one of 4. We are 11 guys and 3 girls among 1st cousins, similar ratios across 2nd cousins & nephews/nieces. And basically this skit applies 100% to my family.
I am anti-Hamas in every sense of the word, but we need to put this stupid “Gaza could have been a Dubai or a Singapore” myth to bed. The PLO put down arms decades ago and things get worse and worse in West Bank every year.
Hamas and Islamic Republic are terrorists, and they do not talk for the people of Iran or Palestine.
The whole situation in Israel and Gaza is an incredible tragedy.
While this is a proxy war by the Islamic Republic and its terrorist arm Quds Force and should be condemned in
@iamjakestream
Loans come with different regulations, which BNPL seeks to avoid. You may think this is shady, but default rates are extremely low and the risk too. Unless you’re a broke kid buying smth you simply cannot afford, BNPL is a great tool from a time value of money perspective.
India has a limited presence in Pakistan, in that India’s progress is a stick used to beat Pakistan’s bumbling establishment, and Bollywood and cricket are culturally relevant in the country. Otherwise, Pakistanis don’t know shit about India nor do they follow its politics.
I’ve long advocated a Pakistani version of Aaliya for Indian Muslims i.e. some sort of right of “return” to Pakistan. Migration has nosedived since the 70s.
Tho tbh most wouldn’t take it atm, since even Pakistanis are trying to aaliya their way to Canada 😂
@TrollFootball
Bayern are great at transfers, but also spend a lot on players and wages when they have to. It's just that their XI tonight had this combined transfer fee. Lucas Hernandez cost as much as Maguire, and Tolisso broke their transfer record to be a bench player.
@MazMHussain
The Muslim world anyway is highly exposed to ghastly images from Gaza and West Bank. They didn’t start thinking about this subject 4 days ago. What the western world says has very little legitimacy and a lot of hypocrisy in their eyes.
@Kohliesque
Genuinely curious, where does this sense of entitlement come from? Chaar din ki toh dominance hai.
No team has done more to support emerging cricket teams over the last 4 decades than Pakistan. Only side that actually supports and spreads the game in other countries.
@pressFToTweet
The video was basically a call for “The People of the Book” to reunite and fight the devil within + the devil of woke neo Marxist degeneracy.
@emclub77
Absurd thing to say. And ironic he would call it a crime standing next to a convicted criminal.
Also Razzaq has the details totally wrong nobody said they wouldn’t play at the World Cup. They said they wouldn’t do sponsor and corporate obligations.
Main reason I don’t attend pro Palestine protests is because you can’t control what the crowd chants, and once you’re in the crowd you’re part of all their chants.
“We want all of it” and “River to the sea” are not acceptable to me personally, so I’d rather just stay away.
This is in NYC.
They are chanting: “Settlers, settlers, go back home! Palestine is our home!”
Then what are they doing living in Brooklyn? Stealing the land of natives, right?
Alongside demeaning the capabilities of young Pakistani intellectuals (“you’ll never be a Jon Stuart Mill”), Hijab also gave no arguments as to why a thought or ideology has to be originate in a certain place to be applicable there. Islam wasn’t started in Lahore either.
This is just pure coping emerging from a defeated people.
We are in no position to defeat anyone. Right now we are praying that America can rein them in, and that's all we can do, appeal to the morality of our conqueror[s].
350 million Arab Muslims and 80 million Turks
@MazMHussain
Genuinely surprised by how Indians have exaggerated their own position in the global order and have thought of themselves as a Great Power, rather than an emerging one. The long term consequences of this will accelerate Indian containment as soon as an alternative pops its head.
@MazMHussain
I think they genuinely cannot comprehend that grown up democracies don’t meltdown at the thought of secession. I feel like most Quebecers I’ve met in my life have been pro secession, nobody cares.
Pakistan is a very odd dictatorship. The civil elite and the common man mock and berate the establishment quite openly, and the rulers are forced to just put up with it. This has been the case since Musharraf.
Solangi: supreme court ka faisla behtareen faisla tha
Awaam: bursts into laughter
Solangi: mujhe bhi jokes atay hain
Someone in the crowd: wohen tau suna rhy hain.
😂😂
@Ahsan_Shehzad_
@sameenrana
Aqib Javed also said “when our target is more than 180, we try to not get Babar out.” Said this after the Zimbabwe match when Babar was at his lowest. Later turned out that Lahore had never scored 180+ batting first vs. Babar.
@Zafar1391
Its also a car-centric haven made for the elites using taxpayer money. Like a publicly funded DHA before DHAs were cool. It simply doesn’t get more Pakistani than that. We should trademark it.
@ArainGang
@saadraees09
Agree with everything else but disagree here. Anti-Ahmadiyya laws in Pak are more or less apartheid. One group of people to whom the freedom of religion doesn’t apply.
Israeli girls says she found out Hamas had murdered her grandmother because the terrorists had taken her grandmother's phone, live-streamed the murder and posted it on the grandmother's Facebook wall
@FamousQuartile
One of the more heartbreaking things to go through is written or video evidence of deeply patriotic East Pakistanis from the ‘50s and ‘60s (e.g. a Mujib speech at Fatima Jinnah rally). A staggeringly self inflicted wound.
@tickerscricket
Also love how Aussies always say “Anderson has got loads of wickets” and not “Anderson has the most wickets for a fast bowler in the history of the game.”
@hamandcheese
Strange? It's been the case for decades. I was in Pakistan when gay marriage was legalized in 2015, and it was all anybody could talk about. American cultural issues are discussed around the globe, that's why they're so important.
@the_topspin
This is why it was wise to not publicly reveal Ballance’s name. Changes nothing and makes him the villain in the story. Villain is YCCC for treating a racism whistleblower like a criminal.
For the 15 man squad:
5 Punjabis: Babar, Imam, Abdullah, Hasan, Salman
3 Hindkowan: Iftikhar, Haris Rauf, Nawaz
4 Pashtun: Rizwan, Fakhar, Shaheen, Wasim Jr
1 Muhajir: Saud
1 Kashmiri: Usama Mir
1 Seraiki: Shadab
@HawkesBay
A guy I know had his house broken into it. Thieves came in from the parents' balcony. His mother was obviously in her night gown and all so they kept their gaze lowered and said baaji pehle dupatta pehn lein and then started looting
@MichaelKugelman
Even Christine Fair does not believe India shot down an F16 and thinks it was all for PR. Given that the Indian media considers her work on Pakistan the gospel truth you’d think they would pay a little more attention here 🤷🏻♂️
Ten Hag has made so many awful transfers, it’s hard to rank the worst one. But replacing Fred with Amrabat has to be one of the dumbest assessments of player profiles ever.
@MazMHussain
I feel like “Jihadist” and “Islamist” are everyday slurs for Muslims in India. Even Bollywood gets accused of being driven by Muslims with an Islamist agenda, which is fairly funny.
@MatthewDownhour
Britain’s population is 70 million. If Charlie sold his jewels for £70m, he could give £1M to every Briton. I feel like £1M would be life changing money for most people.
@dhume
There’s no single achievement I can think of, but I’m very proud of the cultural/artistic content Pakistan has produced. From qawwalis to poetry, or from Coke Studio to Jamil Naqsh, Pakistani citizens have produced truly great culture.
@KathrynPaisner
@robrousseau
I agree with the first half, but the second half seems like wishful thinking. West Bank gave up arms long ago, and things get worse for them every passing year.
Smart move. Now while they’re being crushed they can double down on the victim narrative while the Palestinian children they’re using as human shields get murdered by the brutal Israeli army.
This world is hell for the children of Gaza. They will find no justice here.
@MazMHussain
Slightly less crazy, but the association of Muslim = Arab is so pervasive that people can’t wrap their head around the idea that a near third of all Muslims are South Asian brown.
@ArainGang
Both my brothers have been to Palestine. Can confirm people were ecstatic to know they were Pakistanis, refusing to take their money etc etc. All these ethnonationalists live in some black and white universe where only “Islamists” feel affinity for fellow Muslims.
@MazMHussain
I can think of a few folks who migrated to Canada with visa programs for the middle provinces, and have relocated to Toronto as soon as they could. It’s really just one big urban area dealing with everything.
@TelegraphSport
@JWTelegraph
I think the ECB has handled Ollie Robinson's case fairly well, but this kind of witch hunt is making a mockery out of anti-racism campaigns.
Not only am I saying Butler + Morgan shouldn't be hounded for old tweets, I think there was nothing wrong in the old tweets themselves.
@MazMHussain
I met him at a wedding 4 years ago. He worked for an Indian propaganda website back then (in his own words). We had a brief debate on Kashmir and it was obvious he knew very little.
@MusadAfzal
Maybe I’m biased against Malik now, but he comes with so much baggage. I’m constantly looking at Misbah to see how he reacts to Malik’s words and monologues. Wahab came with no baggage and was a breath of fresh air. 2 Ws are just for banter.
@Brainmasalaar
I saw Joyland at the Toronto Film Festival. Incredible movie. Even if no one goes to watch it in Pakistan, I’m desperate for it be released because that’s one of the preconditions for being nominated for Best Foreign Language film at the Oscars, and this movie could win it.
@Jamie_Venom
@ArainGang
Indian analysis on South Asian Islam is putting a bunch of tribalist nouveau riche Khaleejis on a pedestal and using that pedestal to shit on South Asian Muslims. Rinse and repeat. All Muslims are converts, even the Arabs.
@Danny61000
Can’t wrap my head around why Wahab would go so hard against a player who is on the margins of Pakistan’s Test plans anyway. Bizarre press conference.
@Crawf33
@JoeBiden
If you taxed America's billionaires 100% of their wealth, it would pay for less than 9 months of the current US federal budget but who's counting 🙆♂️
I have literally only seen the “Pakistanis worship Turks” thing online, and that too when the phenomenon is being commented upon by a non-Pakistani. Literally never met a Pakistani who idolized Turkey for non-Kemalist reasons.
One thing that my Instagram feed has taught me this past week is that having a Muslim name, supporting Palestine and celebrating Eid are the three fundamental pillars of Muslim identity in North America. Banda kuch karay na karay yeh zaroor karta hai.
@MazMHussain
He put them back in their place imo. Makes the New Yorker article look like a hit job. Ironically, they misrepresented the facts in an article where they said he was misrepresenting the facts.
@MazMHussain
I think Indian Nats are struggling to recognize that in an actual democracy, citizens can literally call for the dismemberment of their own country. Hard to sell Khalistani doom to a country where Quebecois fantasize about independence in parliament.
@ahardtospell
Very high IQ: You know, the media is biased against Donald Trump and if you look past the performative outrage you will realize he's still awful.
