@stuboo No one should ever have to discuss any aspect of their care with anyone (I’m thinking nurse, receptionist) within earshot of other patients. Also, patients should not be able to listen to phone calls or dictation. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve heard while sitting.

@drcopps It’s not just “the doctors”. I tried my whole career to get an equipped procedure room and trained nurse to give sedation during colposcopy and other gyne procedures and the hospital wouldn’t approve it. It “wasn’t necessary” because none of the old male docs asked for it.

@Fitz_ly I am an OB/GYN. People don’t realize how much bleeding a miscarriage can cause (along with everything else awful). I’ve seen ER docs and surgeons who manage traumas and stabbings and gunshots panic at the blood loss from a miscarriage. It can be massive and life threatening.

@ThePOTSPostman My fog is episodic but I spin in circles in the kitchen. Literally spin unknowingly for minutes, not knowing how to start a task like making a sandwich I am a trained surgeon. I led teams through life-threatening emergencies. Not being able to figure out lunch is terrifying.

I went to classes she disappeared into the basement with a pot of coffee and most of the world’s literature from the last 1000 years. Then she went to Zimbabwe for 4 months and then wrote a thesis.

@SMacMillanMD @JJcolemanMD I miscarried while I was the OB resident managing the miscarriages. No one suggested I go home. I arranged my own blood work, lay on the floor of the bathroom a couple of times, and finished a 30 hour shift. It was the longest 30 hours of my career.

I actually think the Dalhousie street party issue has some roots in our drinking age of 19. Students start at university at 18. No one can legally host drinking/drunk first year students so they all end up in the streets I went to undergrad in Quebec. This didn’t happen

@jtrebach I actually discovered in undergrad that I couldn’t study for 16 hours a day. Physically could not. So I had to accept the grades I got with less studying. I accepted. Went to the gym. Read some novels. I was a practicing MD when I found out I had ADHD. Good to know

@drquinngyn I have no idea what did or did not happen to Kate. But surgeries that did need a two week hospital stay in my own clinical experience involved either a serious systemic illness, some previous surgeries, some sepsis, an ICU stay, or some or all of the above.

@DrSketchy2 I used to end up in the ICU with respiratory viruses every once in a while. Always got really, really sick. I am smacking my head that masks were right there the whole time! I haven’t had a virus since 2019. The last one took a bit of my hearing. I won’t be giving up my masks.

@Tim_Bousquet I would feel so much better about the “make your own decisions based on your own risks and concerns” if I felt like we were being given any tools at all to determine what our risks and concerns might be. Like..data, and testing, and transparent discussions about risks.

Why are we not waiting to “learn to live with COVID” until everyone has all the vaccines science says we need (including small children), and we have in place accommodations for people likely to remain at risk for severe disease? Is that such a radical idea?
