Call me Gigi ๐ AKA: Rian Fox | Jasper Hyde | Nexon King || Trans masc author of Black-centered LGBTQ+ romance and Erotica. โญ(they/them) ๐ADULTS ONLY!
Conservative mormon momtok is crashing and burning because turns out a whole group of them were secretly swingers and one of the moms just spilled all this tea.
The way Shakespeare's works (especially his comedies) are taught in high school is horrendous. Teachers focus on the iambic pentameter and the obscure themes but what makes Shakespeare so much fun is the messy telenovela levels of drama.
Dolly Parton is my standard for white women. Dolly just donated millions of dollars of her own royalties to a Black neighborhood. She didn't say anything about it, she didn't want a pat on the back.
She just gave reparations.
I love that it's been almost 20 years since the Cassandra Clare plagiarism scandal happened and she still can't escape. No matter how successful she is, no matter the awards she gets, this remains a stain on her career. And I have it from good sources, that she HATES that!
I don't understand why Christians are mad at asexuals. I thought being chaste was a good thing and you seem to think that asexuals are being chaste. So what is your issue?
The Lil Nas X thing and the outrage from parents made me realize how society wants childcare providers to be sexless beings even outside of their work. A teacher got fired for posting a photo of herself in a bikini on her personal insta.
Harry Potter fans you can still be a part of the fandom but not support JKR.
1) Stop Going To Pottermore
2) Stop Buying Official Merch
3) Stop going to conventions and fan events where she is being hosted at.
4) Buy Your HP books secondhand
5) Write trans + NB in your fic.
Fun fact: It was American evangelicals who started this in Uganda. They went over to Uganda and convinced them that people like me deserve the death sentence. And this is ultimately what they want for all of us here in the U.S. This is not simply a dog whistle, it's GENOCIDE.
Uganda passes a death penalty for LGBTQ people.
A reminder that anti-lgbtq hate speech, calling us groomers and pedophiles, does not stay contained to national borders.
Hate is and always has been global.
I'm going to drop this with a disclaimer that not all mormons are judgemental hypocritical conservatives douchecanoes. I know at least one mormon that is openly and happily queer and polyam.
But these videos are about a certain brand of Utah conservative mormons. ๐
And for the people clutching their Pearls telling me to mind my own business.
These are conservative mormons. You know the people tried to stop marriage equality, who are banning LGBTQ+ books, who are wringing their hands over CRT?
Cry me a river!
Strip away every iambic pentameter and the historical settings and those stories still are popular and still hold up to this day because at the core they are still good stories. To teach to kids, you have to strip away that b.s. and teach the story not the pretenses.
This poor white woman on tiktok said with her whole chest that the spiciest book she ever read is Colleen Hoover's books.
These type of people wouldn't make it 5 mins on ao3.
What proves my point is the modern adaptions of Shakespeare's works. In the late 90s, the movie trend was to modernize literary works and slap new names on them. 'Clueless' is a retelling of Emma by Jane Austen but most famously is '10 Things I Hate About You'.
When we talk about people hypersexualizing queer people. I want you to read this AITA Reddit post. This man's wife was uncomfortable with her stepson being physically affectionate WITH HIS OWN FATHER just because his son was gay.
Now people are arguing that swingers happen everywhere but Utah is the most socially conservative state in the union. And when you have holy rollers, you have skeletons packed in closets.
Parents forget about their being a time and place for things. Lil Nas X can go to a school and talk about acceptance to children and then in what clearly is an all adult setting twerk have naked on the devil. Also, Parents who dont realize that Teens can and do have sex is weird.
@AuthorLMDavis
So many things wrong with this. 1), I find it the height of irony that you are screaming theft while stealing from artists (you know how ai art is generated). 2) You can't copyright a trope or a simple idea like that. There are a million IPs with that idea, dude.
After some snooping into the tags, I have found more content about this messy scandal from another tiktoker.
This white on white crime is delicious.โ
I am passionate about making literary analysis and classic literature fun and accessible to everyone. I didn't learn to love or analyze literature in school. As a poor ND kid growing up I had to learn that myself.
And learning that opened doors for me.
What makes it all the sweeter is that Shadowhunters fandom fucking HATES her. She was such a goddamn biotch through the entire filming of that series and she made the showrunner's lives hell.
For a teen watching that video, especially a black gay teen that video is about radical self-acceptance of Black queer sexuality. And for those teens that are starting or in the midst of discovering sex something like that is highly needed.
Do not get discouraged if you see another author writing a book with the same premise as yours. Tropes are infinite and there is more than enough room at this table for all books.
I love Kenneth Brannagh's 'Much Ado About Nothing' so much but the all-Black PBS production was fantastic. It stars the fantastic Danielle Brooks as Beatrice and you should watch it.
I need for Anne Rice fans to internalize that she was a huge racist and peddler of southern revisionist history. For me, Anne Rice started the trend of white ladies writing about white slave owners vampires and romanticizing them.
If Romance and Erotica writers don't think the crack down on Sex Work on the internet won't effect them then they are either extremely naive or just plain ignorant.
I am not seeing nearly enough outrage from Romancelandia about the Only Fans purge and that don't sit well w/ me.
Last thing I'm going to say before I finally mute this: Shakespeare should be accessible to everyone. Reading should enjoyable and not a chore. When we look for fresh new ways to teach literature and by teaching analysis of that content we give our kids invaluable tools for life.
Another hill I will die on is that reading fanfiction is reading. Fanfiction is a legitimate genre of fiction. So, if you are only reading fanfiction these days you are still reading and that is all that matters.
I have gotten a lot of flack for my posts about the possiblity of LGBTQ+ fiction being wiped out. And I want to make a few things clear: simply going back to Patreon, selling it on our websites, and doing zines (yes, some suggested zines) is not realistic or viable.
The one thing I will give CC is that she stays off social media for the most part. I think that is the only reason she hasn't had a huge reckoning like JKR had.
@HighhPriestessJ
@brokebackboys
We continue to be the whipping boy of every race on the planet and quite frankly its exhausting. There really no true POC solidarity and it shows.
If you are a white person reading a BIPOC book just go into it knowing that most likely the book was not written for you and your experiences or comfort will not be centered at all.
If you don't understand something? Google it.
The reason that Shakespeare's stories has survived even centuries after his death is not the rhyming scheme or the obscure themes. Its stories themselves. These stories are about complex,sad,messy, sometimes funny, and deeply flawed characters.
Literary analysis shows kids how to examine not only the content they consume (and the misinformation and propaganda in media) it also gets them the foundation for individual thought and critical thinking. This skill set is priceless.
But I also know that as much as CC has an ego the size of Texas? The woman's readership continues to shrink over the years. Much like JKR her fanbase has grown up and gone on to better books.
I feel that one of these days I'm going to do a messy live tweet of the Merry Wives of Windsor with the behind the scenes messy historical drama of this particular play. And I'm going to do it in a way that is like a story time tiktok or tea time format. Yall going to love it.
Now back on subject of Bill Shakespeare. The reason I call him Bill because it automatically knocks him off the pedestal he 1) would fucking hated and 2) It pisses off Shakespeare snobs so much. ๐คฃ
I think the eroding fiction/reality line in fandom is becoming a bit of a problem. Ya'll want to talk about the dangers of problematic fiction all you want but the bigger issue is the lack of a clear fiction/reality line.
Also, the demand for diversity is much more nuanced. You just can't slap color on a white character and call it a good old day. The public is much more aware of race, sexuality, and social justice issues. Also BIPOC readers have more options to read BIPOC ownvoices books.
Can we stop perpetrating the myth in Romance and YA Novels that ur 1st love is the only valid love? Can we start normalizingng moving on from a divorce or a relationship without trying to erase the feelings the character had for that partner?
Okay more updates: I found this very helpful subreddit just for this drama. The first post is someone from one of the main characters high school chiming in.
And now I leave you with this:
If we have unearned luck
Now to โscape the serpentโs tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends
โ A Midsummer Nightโs Dream
The latest from this morning. I still plan on searching for the reddit links.
Now, some people say this is all fake but its a lot to do to ruin your reputation and your friendships in your small closeknit super religous community.
The stories are human stories and human nature never changes. It's why Bill's stories resonate with us today. Because, you can find a piece of those stories on reality shows, or a CW drama, or even in real life. And these stories important and that is why are still entertaining.
Now, it's been a while since I actually examined book sales but it is nowhere near what it was when CC first started out. And the competition in the YA market (especially in the last 5 years) has gotten tougher.
The whole market has changed since 2007 and CC and the old guard really haven't kept up at all. Teenagers today are totally different than my generation.
Just in time for Pride, there is a discourse that a book by a queer author writing queer characters can not be queer enough. Firstly, there is no right or wrong way for people to be queer. To me, this discourse has latent queerphobia in it (especially for bi, pan, and ace).
A hill Iโm willing to defend forever. Baz Lurhmann R+J is the best film version because 1) itโs not โperiodโ; 2) it gets the gang war at the heart of the text; 3) it doesnโt buy into academic Willie or the purity of text BS.
Also lets keep it really real: old queer people with all the time in the world write the best smut. I remeber reading smut from a retiree that had my toes curling.
I watched a TikTok video and it really got me thinking about how romance authors tend to (most unintentionally) perpetrate the propaganda that a person is not really complete without a partner.
I call it the Charlotte York syndrome.
I shut up and I listen. For example, the Roma people have largely spoken up and said: We are a closed community and we want to be left alone. I listened to that and as a result I will never write a Roma person. I will leave that to actual Roma authors.
How do you feel when someone says:
If you're not "XYZ" don't write those characters. We have a hard enough time as it is... ?
(Insert any word you like into that sentence because I've heard them all.)
So you're telling me I can only write married white women?
J.K. Rowling is a white upper middle class daughter of a Rolls Royce engineer. She also may have been a struggling single mother but she got an โฌ8k grant that allowed her to finish book 1 of HP. J.K. Rowling has always been an incredibly privileged person.
Now, the queer community as whole knew that Shang was queer from the jump, but I love that it was pretty much confirmed that yeah Shang and Mulan would have totally hooked up before the gender reveal.
Thanks
@XiranJayZhao
for your service! ๐๐พ
You have to be intentional when it comes to reading more diversely. This means following diverse book reviews and authors. Because 9/10 you are not going to get any help from Goodreads or Recommendation sites.
I say it once and I say it a million times: STOP USING RACISM AS AN ALLEGORY IN YOUR WHITE ASS FANTASY/PARANORMAL BOOKS. I know both the BIPOC folks and Jewish Folks are just goddamn tired of ya'll using our generational trauma as inspiration.
Before I mute this I would urge for all of you to listen to the Ugandans in the replies who are risking their lives to speak truth to power and to urge your representatives to create better refugee programs for our LGBTQ+ siblings fleeing perscution in their home countries.
@DinoDude52
Oh, to this very day, Cassandra will absolutely shut down an interview, a panel, and a questionnaire about the plagiarism stuff. I think the only time she addressed it was her FAQs and it's basically a denial. This is hilarious because the receipts are very clear that she did it.
Kindle Unlimited authors I need you to start creating plan Bs right the hell now. I am not telling you to leave but I am telling you to make sure you are ready to pivot with zero notice. Shit is getting real in these streets.
I am now watching the Harry & Meghan doc and what is not being talked about loudly enough is that Harry's action as non-Black partner of a Black person did everything he should have done.
A lot of interracial couples should take note.
A lot of ya'll haven't been paying attention to politics in a while and it shows. 1) FOSTA/SESTA is not only cracking down on sex workers, they are cracking down on anyone that creates explicit adult content. This means romance and erotica writers.
Thank you so much for all the love for this thread. I was actually using this thread as a way to deal with my anxiety because I went on a real radio show today to promote my book. So thank you so much for letting me shit post in peace.
Folks, let's talk about how society has zero ideas about the industry definition of romance. MOST OF THE BOOKS ON THIS FUCKING LIST ARE NOT ROMANCE! We can not get accurate data about the goddamn genre if YOU ARE NOT CORRECTLY DEFINING ROMANCE!
You know what? I'm proud of myself. During a fucking pandemic, during a break up with the person I thought was the love of my life, through depression and anxiety: I still published a book.
I say this with so much kindness, but you need to stay out of the reviews. if bad reviews are wrecking you this badly you need to stay clear. The reality of being an author is that no matter how good you are, people are going to still hate your book.
It's okay if your story is predictable. It's okay if your readers figure out the ending of the book, and you do not have to throw random stuff at your readers for shock value.
Can we stop stigmatizing adults living with their parents? There are many reasons why adults have to live with their parents. Disabilities and culture being a few of them.

My mom was a CNA, working in nursing home, for her entire life. And the stories she had to tell about men just dumping their wives and leaving them their to die.
