@pinkopog As an engineer that works in geotechnical engineering: people should not be doing their own DIY tunnel systems. Scary this needs to be said but the risk to yourself and others is dangerous. Tunnel work is one of the most dangerous niches in the trades.

@xheirjordanx Nah this is definitely not it, folks especially mestizo folks can pass at times especially in more accepting areas. Then there’s areas where folks stare at you people say shit like “we don’t like your kind here”. Whiteness is a social construct that changes bc of context.

@schmangee It is certainly a possibility and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with folks taking precautions. We in America seem to have given up on mitigation with even minor amounts of effort. It’s similar to folks complaining about wearing seat belts because they’re not cool.

@opinonhaver To be fair given that a random billionaire bought an entire Hawaiian island for his personal use, I can definitely empathize with the case that Hawaiian land back should be done. Imo I think more opportunities like this should become a model for land back in urban areas.

@lefttwick Because the actual risk is so low it’s negligible. Bull terriers in the US harmed about 500 people, and there’s ~ 5-18 million of them. Apparently in the UK last year this breed was involved in 15 incidents. I think this is more owners than dog breed and could be any large dog.

@sweatystartup The density of any of these places is a joke compared to major cities globally. The issue is poor planning. Car dependence and single family zoning make huge swaths of land idle most of the time. We can absolutely house more people and build better infrastructure.

@mateosfo Ok but one of the things that drew me towards being pro-housing really is a focus on building where appropriate. The hills really should have less new development. The coast should be building more housing maybe not right on the bluffs but there’s plenty of land!

@VPrasadMDMPH I too love opining on things wildly outside of my understanding. those are just like all of those silly water treatment plants, it’s not like I’ve met anyone who’s had cholera. I honestly thought this was sarcasm at first, disappointing to say the least.

@constans He’s in many ways like that journeyman boxer that keeps fighting despite a middling record. Sometimes there’s a need for a person to stand in and derail a hype train.

@julianakilrose I agree with this and it can be important to those people, but you have to make sure you’re listening to the community too. Sometimes the program isn’t what the community needs at times and that’s ok.

@krondtzks @lefttwick Honestly not opposed, I think anyone owning a dog should have some basic training along with spaying and neutering being offered because we have constantly overcrowded shelters.

@aesthdistance1 I’m glad that you haven’t experienced colorism and racism from other Asians. As someone who grew up experiencing this, it really sucked. There’s definitely issues within the larger Asian American community
