Our streets are Boston’s largest public space and we must design and operate them to serve everyone. We will prioritize safety, comfort, and dignity for all users of our streets, no matter how they travel.

The idea that the region can add tens of thousands of new residents each year without major, sustained expansion of our #transit system is totally bananas.

@eastiestrong @MBTA You are absolutely right and we have more work to do there too. Our current system of property-owner responsibility doesn't work well enough. We'll be looking at options to help make sure everyone can travel safely, by foot, bus, wheelchair, or bike.

4/ We are inventorying any spare @RideBluebikes equipment to maximize service. And we’re evaluating capacity to add valets and extra rebalancing so that bikes are available where needed. We are also working to line up funding for free /discounted passes.

Stunning vision for Moakley Park from @BostonParksDept . It’s hard to overstate how great it would be to close this section of Day Boulevard and give the waterfront back to people.

@MatthewDezii This is just to accommodate a Blue Line shuttle bus diversion. Flex posts will be going back afterwards.

1/ We’re helping @MBTA finalize shuttle routes and stops. In some cases, the best route can only happen if the City provides dedicated space for the shuttles to operate, and our planners are working on these road changes.

If techno-optimists with deep pockets really believed their own hype, they'd be spending more money trying to make the cities we have today work better. Instead they keep trying to start from scratch.

Gold standard BRT (electrified too), a growing network of connected cycletracks, and ample micromobility options. Boston could learn a thing or two from Indianapolis.

Implementing bus priority isn’t just throwing out cones and hoping for the best. It requires materials, enforcement, signage, public communication, planning for things like accessible parking, business loading, and intersection safety. We are building that plan.

@FortPointer It’s time for the state legislature to act to allow us to use cameras for safety enforcement. Even the tech used in Somerville isn’t legal in Boston (or Cambridge) due to the specific enforcement statutes that apply to us.

🚫fares = ⬆️better service. “Passengers can now simply hop on through any of the bus’s 3 doors without stopping to pay, allowing the driver to onboard riders at Nubian Square in under a minute.”

As a parent, a neighbor, and a public servant, I can’t wait to join the Mayor and my colleagues at the City of Boston to get to work on this ambitious and urgent agenda.

Missing from this story is that the fantastic @PBoyleMcKenna will be leading @DoITBoston while the City hires my permanent replacement. I'm sad to leave the team, but happy the department is in good hands!
