Just looked at the latest #Florida data and still 13% positive in #Dade , 12% positive in #Broward and 15% in #PalmBeach suggest late start in testing, undertesting and huge reservoir of infected patients who will rapidly cause upswing in hospitalizations here. Not good. #COVID19

The 10% positivity rate of current testing is a very high number and puts us significantly higher than the U.K., South Korea, and China. Until we see the positivity rate decline significantly we are still not screening enough.

Scary sleepless night. Triplet #3 was hit by a car while biking in Davis, CA. The helmet may have saved her life and she escaped with minor scrapes. Moved by the kindness of strangers (even the driver who took her to the ER) and gratitude today. Give you loved ones an extra hug.

@chrissyfarr I thought all of the same things. They supposedly tried to adjust for socioeconomic status as a confounding variable but impossible to see how that is possible. It is a luxury to be able to exclusively breastfeed for 12 months as recommended in Europe.

To expand Covid testing access, in addition to easier collection like using saliva; we also need fast, accurate, cheap lateral flow tests (strips) which are popular in other countries, but seldom used in U.S. because of a bias toward lab testing. We must get testing to consumers.

Those noting that N-95 respirators are the gold standard are correct. But we don’t know the inadequate masks are worthless. Even simple measures like frequent hand hygiene can have benefits. Also true that a false sense of security can be very dangerous. #Coronarivus #2018nCoV

Being forced to present ID and evidence of vaccination to dine indoors at restaurants on our honeymoon in San Francisco hasn’t felt like an attack on our freedom. Instead it has allowed us to enjoy indoor dining without the usual fear that we would certainly feel in #Miami .

When we get a covid19 vaccine, one question is whether enough consumers will use it. Since 20% or more may have been infected by that time, we'd need to get perhaps 40% utilization to achieve herd immunity. These are rates of uptake of other vaccines among indicated populations.

This needs to say vaccinated people “with breakthrough infections” as there are individuals who think that this implies vaccinated individuals exposed to #COVID19 are as likely to have high viral loads following exposure, which of course isn’t correct.
