scientist, and the making of the modern AI itself. All versions are now on Amazon 1/
Who is talking about
#AI
? And who should be included in this global conversation? Heading to eastern Taiwan to meet with a (large) group of mostly rural and aboriginal high schoolers to have a dialogue with them about

Thirty years of Computer Vision research at work here. While the public does not hear much about basic science research, it’s the generations of scientists and their passionate work that bring moments like this to live 🌹👍🙏
With no road maps on Mars, I’m building my own as I go. There are lots of places I want to explore, and mapping while I drive will help me see and do more. Let the road trip begin.

Once a while, a person in human civilization asks an audacious question - so bold, profound, even bordering insane. Yet it ignites our collective imagination and creativity and forever changes the of fate of our species. For Alan Turing, the question was “CAN MACHINES THINK?” 🥰
Alan Mathison Turing was born on this day in 1912. He was a British mathematician who articulated the mathematical foundation and limits of computing. The
#ACMTuringAward
, computing's most prestigious award, was named in Alan Turing's honor.
It’s been 3 yrs since the last live teaching of

Fei-Fei Li has written a book. She was the first computer vision researcher to truly understand the power of big data and her work opened the floodgates for deep learning. She delivers a clear-eyed account of the awesome potential and danger of AI.
“I often tell my students not to be misled by the name ‘artificial intelligence’ — there is nothing artificial about it. A.I. is made by humans, intended to behave by humans and, ultimately, to impact humans lives and human society.” Thanks
@CadeMetz
This is so interesting. IMHO, ImageNet, built upon generations of datasets& vision research, defined an important North Star for vision/ML research, &created a path (via training/benchmarking) towards that ⭐️ Below is my favorite quote by Einstein on defining scientific problems
Some folks are uncritically arguing that only *architectures* matter in deep learning, not datasets nor anything else (So Fei-Fei Li creating ImageNet didn't contribute much 🙄)
This narrow tunnel focus is so harmful to the field.
The overload and then collapse of regional healthcare system is my major concern - this has happened in Wuhan, Iran and N. Italy. This is why some regional fatality number is so much higher. Every local/national government should try hard to prevent such tragedy from happening.
AMAZING ANIMATION on why it’s critical to
#FlattenTheCurve
for fighting the

epidemic. Caseload over healthcare capacity is what ➡️ to excess higher mortality. Acting early- such as more testing and contact tracing is key.

This has nothing to do w. your h-index.

isn't qualified to lead

, since she "just did ImageNet". JUST ImageNet? Are you serious?! ImageNet papers are cited 10k+ times, she has a h-index of 89!
