when
@cruise
was acquired in 2016,
@sama
came to celebrate bringing a bunch of nice bottles. he thought he was in the wrong place as everyone was working despite the announcement. we weren't done then and we aren't done now. this is how we stay a startup inside of
@gm
After 8 years we finally get to share what we have been doing w/ the world. I can’t thank the entire
@Cruise
team for all of their hard work to make this a reality. i couldn’t be more proud of what we have accompished.
@kvogt
we did it!
1) Monday night was a night I’ll never forget. I’m still speechless. I got to take the first ride, by anyone, ever, in a *driverless* robotaxi on the streets of San Francisco.
This was officially ride
#1
for
@Cruise
. Full story and vids below.
Well folks, we did it. I have been waiting for this day for almost 10 years.
I am proud to announce
@Cruise
is now running 24/7 across all of San Francisco!
This is a pivotal moment for our business.
Let me tell you why 👇(1/6)
SF is over?! 🤣
a year ago i was sitting in a
@cruise
in this level of traffic wondering if we would be able to navigate it. the answer was yes. today it is a regular occurrence
I can’t count the times I’ve been told that AVs will *never* be able to handle certain situations.
How about taking a passenger through North Beach on St. Patrick’s day?
Absolutely wild. Thanks to this driverless
@Cruise
AV (named Twin Peaks) for the clip.
Fun Fact: naming of our AVs started when an intern at Cruise named the first ones "Scarlet" and "Quicksilver" so that we could easily tell them apart. previously they were something like AV1 and AV2.
today we name every AV to help humanize an otherwise humanless experience
.
@cruise
hit 1,000,000 driverless miles!
That’s 40 trips around the planet, with nobody behind the wheel.
The fun thing about the rapid scaling we're doing is that that 1M miles will seem *tiny* by the end of this year. So excited to get more people in AVs!
Could not be more excited for
@cruise
.
@kvogt
has shown us that extraordinary growth can happen at every step as we launched our first driverless service. Glad that this is now permanent.
The trends are going the wrong way. Some alarming statistical trends they’ve observed during the pandemic: “Fewer Americans drove but those who did took more risks and had more fatal crashes.”
When do we really want AI to beat humans?
When it comes to road safety.
Across our first 1,000,000 miles, we see evidence that
@Cruise
AVs perform more safely on average than human drivers. Full report linked below.
Let’s Cruise!
This week,
@Cruise
launched fully driverless cars on the streets of San Francisco.
Yesterday at an event called Under the Hood, we shared just how we did it.
Here are just a few of my favorite details 🧵
Given our
@Cruise
service runs from 11pm-5am at the moment,
@FestusEzeli
has crowned it the new way to get home after a night out. Never have a ride of shame again. Maybe we should make it shoes optional 😂
@nanamaia_
No I didn’t. But the advice I’d give is you get as much as you put in. Code as much as you can. I’ve seen the difference between those who spend all of their available hours coding versus those who take it as a chore or job.
when you ask chatgpt to write a birthday post for you.
“A momentous occasion has arrived as we commemorate the completion of the initial year of existence for this little human. Let us revel in the jubilation and extend heartfelt felicitations on this auspicious 1st birthday!”
My wife says I love to "debunk" movies and I can be annoying to watch movies with. Like questioning why in Star Wars, Rey would park her ship at the bottom of a mountain and hike up it to find Luke. It's not my fault that writers have left holes the size of Millenium Falcons.
Today, we’re excited to announce an additional $1.35B investment from the SoftBank Vision Fund as we look ahead toward scaling our public self-driving ridehail service. What a way to start the year! 🚀
@RobinhoodApp
just screwed over the common person in what seems like the most shortsighted move by stopping trading of $GME, $AMC, $NOK and others. This week is crazy.
@mustafasuleymn
@olivercameron
only thing that would have made this video better would be if the camera turned to a mirror and it was another robot filming
After 5 incredible years today marks my last day at
@Cruise
. I am forever grateful for everything I learned from the hundreds of talented, intelligent, and collaborative folks I had the pleasure of working with over the years. It has been an amazing ride!
@voretaq7
For sure there could be multiple ways to solve the problem. I am gonna go for one that doesn’t need massive infrastructure changes or city redesigns.
@finbarr
@British_Airways
the fact that they have lost me as a customer after this flight for life and that i am going to hate on them until my goldfish brain forgets over $700 is kind of hilarious
@Soengle
The most influential for me was the idea that in any conversation there are three realities. What you think you implied, what you actually said, and what the other party heard. Aligning this is impossible without curiosity which is not default for most people.
@chort0
Semi autonomous systems may have their problem but I’d love to see actual data that proves they are worse than humans. That said, fully autonomous systems are a completely different game and will eliminate the main problem from the loop: humans.
