Did you ask
@TxDPS
on what basis they decided this residential street, with sidewalks, isn't safe for pedestrians or people riding bikes (or drivers who want to not kill children)?
#StenographyNotJournalism
@kathrynw5
That's not a "hot take". That's a tired & WRONG cliche that contributes to the killing of people on bicycles - and to global warming, too.
Please do better. You can start by deleting this tweet.

Cyclists,
Don't be deaf or hard of hearing.
You need hearing to avoid being hit by drivers.
Drivers can use their 'infotainment systems' in their sound-proofed vehicles, but you shouldn't.
"Unbelievable to me that we have to brave streets with bike lanes that are dangerous, get mowed down by trucks, in modern America...You cannot just paint lines on roads & think that you have bike lanes & then brag about it on your website...Those bike lanes are just death traps."

Crosswalk safety tips:
-Build safe crossings where people cross.
-Reduce driving speeds.
-Reduce curb radii.
-No Right On Red.
-Build raised crosswalks.
-Mark all legs of the crosswalk.
-Give🚶🧑🦽enough time to cross.
-Get rid of slip lanes.
-Put signals on recall/once-per-cycle.

Nathaniel Stratton was riding his scooter on the sidewalk. The driver who killed him was charged with 3 felonies: hit & run, killing someone while driving intoxicated, & reckless homicide. How about limiting CAR operating hours to 5 am-11 pm daily?

Traffic signals are set up to keep cars moving. Not following the rules set up to keep cars moving can delay cars. Delayed cars (slower speeds) are safer than non-delayed cars (faster speeds).

Three drivers hit and fatally injured a bicyclist in her 20s in Palo Alto Monday night, according to police. Two of the drivers hit and ran.
Here is an older pick-up truck next to a new pick-up truck.
The older truck looks like a baby, compared to the new one.
What can the new truck do that the older truck couldn't?

"With traffic fatalities spiking higher, the nation’s top safety investigator says a widely cited government statistic that 94% of serious crashes are solely due to driver error is misleading & that the Transportation Department should stop using it."
This conversation actually happened.
Father 1: "We bought a big SUV. I want to protect my family."
Father 2: "Your big SUV endangers my family."
Father 1: "It's my responsibility to protect my family. It's your responsibility to protect yours."
But that mindset of “choose safety” has become deeply problematic.
Americans are flocking toward increasingly massive cars that they think will protect them and their family.
4 in 5 new cars sold are now an SUV or truck.

Are you saying that pedestrians aren't even safe while walking on the sidewalk?
Also, what should vision/hearing-impaired pedestrians do with their eyes/ears while walking on the sidewalk?
@RichmondRCMP
Where are your safety tips for drivers?
•AVOID DRIVING DURING TRICK OR TREATING TIME
•Be aware of children
•Yield to pedestrians
•Be cautious around driveways
•Reduce distractions - focus on driving
•Approach intersections carefully
•Drive more slowly at night

The SUV did it, but "the driver stayed at the crash site to assist with the investigation" (i.e., comply with Texas laws requiring drivers to remain on the scene, render aid, and give information).
@moveutah
Do you know when to hang up your keys and forego your drive for the day?
It's generally recommended that if the temperature is below freezing, you should avoid driving. This is because ice may form on the road, making driving risky.
Per the information in police crash report MCP33110021:
on 9/27 (Friday) 7:27 pm, the driver of a 2017 Ford F250 hit a 5-year-old on a bicycle in a marked crosswalk at Georgia Ave/29 & Blair Mill Rd in

the driver was turning left from S Kings Mill to Gallant Knight, & the child "was on the sidewalk before he attempted to turn at the intersection of Gallant Knight & South King Mill" [❓].
Standard suburb. Standard crash.

We prize cars and commerce over safety."
@KMRalph
Road space can't be reallocated from cars to non-cars.
People in cars are going important places and should not be delayed by people not in cars, who aren't.
Not everyone can walk or bike, but everyone can (and does) drive.

This is in the "proper use" category. Because the bicyclist avoided being right-hooked by a driver who failed to yield while turning across a bike lane at a stop sign?
