My pet project for the last couple weeks:
The cost of home ownership is becoming an increasingly important election issue. The federal government can do more about home costs than you think. Here's how:
BIDEN: "When my predecessor got COVID, he had to get helicoptered to Walter Reed Medical Center. He was severely ill. Thankfully, he recovered. When I got COVID, I worked from upstairs of the White House in the offices upstairs for the five-day period. The difference is...
vaccinations, of course, but also three new tools, free to all and widely available. You don't need to president to get these tools to use for your defense. In fact, the same booster shots, the same at-home tests, the same treatment that I got is available to you."
JUDGE JACKSON: "I—I am the dream and the hope of the slave. ... We have come a long way toward perfecting our union. In my family, it took just one generation to go from segregation to the Supreme Court of the United States."
Inflation has effectively increased 14.5% since June 2020. If you have received no raise since then, you're making 14.5% less. If you've received a 3% raise since then, you're making 11.5% less. If you received a 6% raise since then, you're making 8.5% less.
What's scary about the crime in D.C. these days is the randomness. You don't need to be involved in drugs or gangs to get carjacked, shot over road rage, randomly assaulted on the street, caught by a stray bullet. Daytime, nighttime, doesn't matter. Zero respect for human life.
Anecdotally, I was the only person wearing a mask in my building's gym today in a liberal area of a liberal city, despite the reimposed D.C. and building mask requirements. People are simply fed up.
Americans who eat their way through Europe sometimes come home surprised to see a lower number on the scale. The phenomenon has become something of an Internet debate.
Today would be a great day for journalists to be able to ask the president of the United States questions about Afghanistan. Aside from yesterday’s ABC interview, he hasn’t taken questions on Afghanistan (or anything else) since last Tuesday.
"Not one of the two dozen states with laws on the books restricting abortion access offers paid family leave. Eight of them have opted out of expanding Medicaid coverage under the health care law, which covers pregnancy through postpartum"

BIDEN: "This decision about Afghanistan is not just about Afghanistan. It's about ending an era of major military operations to remake other countries."
POTUS: "These bills are not about left versus right, or moderate versus progressive, or anything that pits Americans against one another. These bills are about competitiveness versus complacency. They're about opportunity versus decay."
My brain all day: Tired. Want sleep. Blah.
My brain when my head hits the pillow: I must immediately know everything about the 10 tallest tsunamis in history
The White House has lifted the lid issued earlier today and is calling the press pool back for the president to return to the White House at 8:40 p.m. from Camp David.
(A lid essentially means the president won't be seen for the rest of the day and the press pool can go home.)
The vaccine is free.
"the two tourists were arraigned Thursday morning and face up to one year in prison, as well as a maximum of $5,000 in fines."
Two Hawaii tourists arrested for falsifying vaccination cards
A question that needs to be more sufficiently answered by public health officials, and there may be good answers, re mask recommendations/requirements: Why should the vaccinated be responsible for the health of those who haven’t taken responsibility for their own health?
Breaking News: New York will require proof of vaccination for indoor dining and gyms, Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to announce. It’s believed to be the first U.S. city to do so.

confirms Nassau County DA is looking into Santos, saying his constituents “must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it.”
BARACK OBAMA: "I want to thank Sharon Sprung for capturing everything I love about Michelle: Her grace, her intelligence, and the fact that she's fine."
A chuckling SCHUMER in the Hudson Tunnel: "For four years, the former president was shoveling you know what. And now, we're gonna put real shovels in the ground, wielded by real American workers."
Say a prayer for friends everywhere who will have to answer the dreaded question "Why are you still single?" from grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and distant relatives they never speak to over the next 48 hours
New people moving to D.C. are like yes, I want to have my own apartment somewhere in the city and not a basement apartment or a studio and I want to pay under $1,000 lmao
PSAKI on Cuomo findings: "I don't know that anyone could have watched this morning and not found the allegations to be abhorrent. I know I certainly did. And again, the president will speak to this later this afternoon."
Fox Business contributor: “You want to know how bad inflation is? Yesterday, yes, I had a nice lunch at Taco Bell — cost me about $28 at Taco Bell for lunch.”
Um, how is that even physically possible? (Also, don’t think I’ll take financial advice from this guy.)
Trump in Waco says the “biggest threat” to the U.S. isn’t China or Russia, but high-level American government officials including McConnell, Schumer, Pelosi and people in the Justice Department.
Separately, federal prosecutors in New York are looking into Santos' finances and financial disclosures, CBS News' Pat Milton confirms.

I was just burned so badly that now I am dead.
At an airport bar, I told the bartender I thought I wanted a beer but was deciding. Five minutes later I told him I wanted a Bud Light.
“I thought you said you wanted a beer?” he said.
I had no response and no defense.
C-SPAN caller, asked to explain why she believes Americans want Jordan: "Because I do extensive-in depth studying on the Internet. I do it and I try to get a lot of information and simply the complicated issues. I read comments, I do my own data analysis, and I do it as a hobby."
Just witnessed a man in his 40s spray whipping cream from the can into his mouth while waiting in the Safeway self checkout line.
An icon. A hero. A legend.
Ten years ago this week, I flew with two suitcases from LAX to DCA to start a new life in D.C., knowing probably two people here.

Pope Francis has criticized couples who choose to have pets instead of children as selfish, arguing that their decision to forgo parenthood leads to a loss of "humanity" and is a detriment to civilization.
"I bet Pat Cipollone set a new land speed record," Sidney Powell says of when the White House counsel learned of the December 18 meeting at the WH
"I was not happy to see the people in the Oval," Cipollone says of meeting...The Overstock person, I didn't know who this guy was"
I don’t trust people on planes who pass up snacks offered to them. What, you’re too good for the ginger cookies and pretzels? You are in economy with me, Karen. Take the free food.
My credit card company declined a $64 purchase I was trying to make at the Walmart on H Street because it thought it was fraudulent lmao. Even my credit card knows I shouldn’t be there
Went outside for some fresh air and told a random guy on the street who asked if I had a man to “go away” instead of just ignoring him and not gonna lie, it felt good
Saw a post from a college student looking for their own furnished apartment for under $1k within a half hour commute to downtown DC. Sweet summer child
