66 countries criminalise sex between two men or two women. 32 of these are in the Commonwealth. 12 states can and do kill us for being LGBTQ+. If anything our communities are *underrepresented in refugee flows. This is disgusting anti refugee homophobic muck raking.

Deeply saddened to see today's British Social Attitudes Survey shows such a marked decline in positive attitudes to trans people. In 2019 82% of us said we "weren't prejudiced at all" towards trans people - now just 64% of us feel we can say the same. 1/5

1000s of people protested yesterday for a trans inclusive ban on conversion practices. Over 100,000 have signed a debate petition. 30,000+ people have written to their MP on this since the govt u-turn. Trans inclusion is mainstream. Politicians need to wake up to that fact.

#Census2021 data tells us just 0.5% of the E&W population (262k people) is trans. Yet in some months last year there were close to 1000 articles a month on what UK media now calls "trans issues" (data via @Dysphorum ). Almost none of these were written by trans people 1/4.

There is no possible justification for this. The NHS serves all of us, including trans and nonbinary people. Providing health advice for all of us should be a non negotiable basic part of their service. Trans people exist and they matter.

First the registrar (who was lovely, if inaccurate) told us our civil partnership wasn’t recognised in the UK. Repeatedly. I disagreed, cited law, even tried the ‘I literally run the organization that helped get these laws passed’ thing. So the registrar called the GRO.

Jenn and I started dating over 16 years ago, and got civil partnered 15 years ago. She’s American, I’m dual national. At the time, very few US states recognized civil partnerships, and it would have been extraordinarily difficult to come to the UK to get civil partnered here.

When the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act came in, we didn’t go for the upgrade. I’ve always been married to my wife. But recently Jenn said she wanted to get married because she was scared our relationship would lose its legal protection. So we agreed to get married.

The registrar is really sorry now. He actually logs on to the registrar’s handbook, which is what he means when he says ‘the law’. We work through it together. Literally nowhere in the handbook can he find something that says we can’t upgrade.

Under the UK Civil Partnerships Act 2004, our Vermont civil partnership was legally recognized. Which is great! We moved to the UK together, pottered around, adopted the kids, got way too many pets. All of it 😀
