Hello my small but perfectly formed Twitter following. Like many others I have decided to no longer regularly use this app. My profile is staying active as I need it for work but if you want to find me on threads or bluesky my @ is the same as here 💜
What I enjoy about the Enoch Burke debacle is pupils found him obnoxious and boys would hold hands to wind him up. So to these kids his homophobia was worthy of derision, not homosexuality. We've come a long way baby, since the 90s at least.
@BernieTranders
If there is ever a rebrand this is a contender.
Unrelated, I once forgot the word egg and in a paroxism of frustration came out with *chicken potato*
@KatyMontgomerie
I have been the disorganised woman short of a tampon/pad who has wailed from a cubical once or twice for help from strangers.
a) it was always given without question
b) I did not demand to know, nor care the genitals, uterine functionality, nor motive of the person helping me.
@chrissyteigen
I did find it almost a bit victim blamey in places though, like clearly the guy is a psychopath but the docu seemed to insinuate that somehow she annoyed him into killing her.
@ask_aubry
It's funny that the people who most want us to learn that life can be cruel are the ones most excited to be cruel. A lot of life's cruelties are entirely optional and carried out by humans who could choose to be kind but won't.
@fayemikah
I hacked off all my own hair with plastic scissors when I was three. I wasn't aware I was experimenting with gender norms, I just liked the snippy snippies
@cassbwell
I'm careening towards 40, some of my friends have actual teenagers and I still feel like none of us should be old enough to be trusted with houseplants yet.
@ask_aubry
Oh good. So they will pay to message you and then add it to the tab of what they are owed. In no way will this add to their sense of entitlement, I'm sure...
Look, I am just saying that resigning on principle is a luxury that many ordinary people cannot afford. This is why unions and strike action are ESSENTIAL means of giving workers power over shitty conditions. Don't applaud
@OliverDowden
while condemning rail workers
@RMTunion
@LGBwiththeT
I am constantly staggered at how vile and hateful people can be over someone just existing. They want this ordinary woman to lose her job but not putting fucking Glinner's book in the window of every bookshop is "cancel culture". Ludicrous.
@adamfare1996
I'll say it again for the people in the back. I functioned until I didn't. Ended up in a psych ward, diagnosed with a personality disorder I don't have and unable to work for the best part of a year. Now I am correctly diagnosed with adhd and autism I am thriving.
@ask_aubry
The only sad thing about this is that lego gave this an age suitability of 18+ lest they be accused of trying to indoctrinate kids with the LGBTQIA+ agenda.
@Trump_ton
If everybody else is drinking remember that you are far more acutely aware of everyone and everything around you than they are, so if you need a time out for a bit, take it. No one notices if you take a breather here and there.
@KatyMontgomerie
I will always encourage everyone to march directly into a first date waving their red flags, no matter how irrelevant to any conversation at hand, proudly. Makes it so much easier for screening purposes.
@LaurenceTheBird
No Larry. The students quoted directly referenced him being extremely homophobic. So for this anecdote homophobia is the correct term. Now, toddle on your way and patronise someone else.
@HiccupMistress
@KatyMontgomerie
But wait aren't GC people always fretting about how including trans women as women will somehow RUIN ALL THE STATISTICS EVER... sooooo
@AdamRutherford
What is it about (some) men that makes them FREAK OUT if they can't immediately tell if a person might be someone they may want to fuck?
@CaelanConrad
@jk_rowling
What I enjoy about JKR is her endless wide eyed 'Who? MEEEEE? Where did I say anything transphobic?' innocence then deciphering the hidden meaning in soup tweets willy nilly. So subtext only exists when others do it right?
MORTIFYING text error: messaging someone I don't quite know well enough for a faux pas of this type, I tried to tell her that cos of my job on my days off I try to avoid THE NEWS. For some reason phone autocorrected to I avoid the Jews. I am the worst.l
@oratoba
@IndiaWilloughby
@MForstater
We should demand immediate genome sequencing and genital inspection. Y'know, like normal totally reasonable people.
*please note I was a bit sick in my mouth typing this.
@billybragg
@jk_rowling
@grahnort
So the reasoning is that because a person or persons purporting to be pro- trans made unacceptable and illegal threats, if you are also pro-trans you are by extension supportive of unacceptable and illegal threat making. Got it. Seems legit. Not at all hysterical.
@adhdjesse
Buy NICE notebooks that are just too nice to use in the full knowledge that you will only keep up whatever the usage is for the first few pages then give up and then the notebook is sullied and no good for anything else so the next big thing requires a new notebook
@_celia_bedelia_
It's because in the GC mind the only reason anyone would transition is to "win" something over everyone else, not because that is how they genuinely experience their identity. It is both indicative of a total lack of empathy and quite telling about how GCs conduct themselves.
@Otto_English
I personally am enraged that this story (written in 1902 by an author that wasn't even still alive in the 1940s) about a SAND FAIRY THAT GRANTS WISHES has a mixed race character. Now it just won't be believable at all!
Never really had 'huggy' people around me so perhaps never noticed that I can go months with literally no physical contact with other humans but meeting
@steph_harlowe
at
@crimecon_uk
at the weekend, she hugged me like I was an old friend and it was just the nicest thing
@manwhohasitall
About how he used to be a snack and all of the expensive and painful things the modern man can do to maintain his youth and avoid becoming wrinkley and less attractive
This is what celeb tranphobes like JKR are emboldening. This woman felt someone didn't meet her subjective "feminity threshold" and therefore it was OK to actively berate them for existing in a space.
Cis woman harassed by transphobe for using the toilet. She handles it very well, but admits on a later video that she was very upset by it and was on the verge of tears, the ending is good though
@IndiaWilloughby
@bindelj
It is always about women's safety according to terfs. Which begs the question why they have to be vile about other women doing *anything at all* if they deem them to be the wrong type of women.
@ask_aubry
What baffles me is that cats/dogs are seen as the "bad" option.
You will end up alone with your pets sounds like the best available scenario here
@JaneyGodley
@speakoutsister
I'm not trans, but I was military and therefore somehow assumed to be a man... I dunno what the logic was there. Long story short when I was unwell I spent a month on a psych ward. A men's psychiatric ward. I wouldn't wish that on any other woman cis or trans.
@KatyMontgomerie
Hmmm. Maybe like her people of all genders do it because it brings them comfort like it does for you. Why is this about rigid gender stereotypes that we have been trying to rid ourselves of for decades?
Where do you find these gems?! 🤣
Massive shoutout to
@legophysicsguy
for making these books. Obv I am way behind because I am in July but it is soooo helpful as an ancient getting back into physics to have this to work through reminding me of everything I forgot over the *cough* DECADES since school 😬
@AdamRutherford
And the worst bit is that people like him want us to think they are the smartest people in the world and yet basic, respectful human interaction flummoxes them
@AdamRutherford
It's just really sad to see that the scientists that first got me into science critical thinking 20 years ago have turned into a clump of racist, transphobic, MRAs. I mean they probably always were but were less loud about it but still
@Lau_Cob_
@SurvivorsNotPD
Yep. If you are a woman in crisis you get slapped with a BPD diagnosis which seems to be the modern psychiatric code for 'hysterical'
@ContraPoints
British middle class women freaking out about drag entertainment for kids makes zero sense because we were all forced to panto every Christmas and it is still a big festive tradition for many families.
@TabitaSurge
If you want the most trans affirming pieces the Sunday Times ever run, head to the Ireland section and read the columns by Louise O'Neill. The poor woman really fights the good fight. Possibly just to generate angry content for the letters section.
@sniphist
@rosieatlarge
It's weird that
@MForstater
bangs on about young mothers having a hard time as that is somehow synonymous with being a raging transphobe. Wut? Nobody I know who has kids would give a hoot about any of the crap she talks about.
Got my first offer of a place to study astrophysics. Entirely as expected, I need to get As in June. WHO AM I KIDDING?! It may be time to quit frivolities like buying food and hire a tutor. 😬😬😬😬
@noodles_nood
@DrDLittle
Word. Not medicine but I joined the Royal Navy as an officer and I have never felt as if I had left my own planet and landed on Planet Privilege so much as when surrounded by hundreds of rich white boys absolutely convinced of their own right to be important. Hideous experience.
@KatyMontgomerie
Does she think that twitter has a little team of sub-editors in her phone adjusting all her content when she hits send? Also as a sub... I am professionally offended that she thinks one of us would make that error
@troubledmn
I said I didn't want Marilyn Manson's music on my playlist after all the accusations and someone freaked out in the replies about INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. So apparently if an artist isn't a convicted criminal you must listen to them or you are a fascist.
@adhdjesse
I got my diagnosis. I got my medication! FINALLY
Then 12 months later I started having (what I firmly suspect are unrelated to medication) heart palpitations so they took me off the meds as a precaution. Now waiting for investigations. BONUS LAP. Sigh 😂
@SoozUK
It more than likely isn't. The 'possibly carcinogenic' label is somewhat misleading. For example sunlight is definitely carcinogenic, frying food is probably carcinogenic and pickled veg is also possibly carcinogenic.
@ask_aubry
I showed up for a first date and the bloke was genuinely ANGRY that I had not disclosed that I was "really tall" (I'm 5'8) before we met, despite the fact he was still actually taller than me anyway. WILD
@IndiaWilloughby
But they earned their money through hard work! If poor people want more money they should just work harder and earn it. Why should hard working rich people pay for people too lazy to bother being rich!!?? /sarcasm
My wonderful friend Alex sent me a birthday present of lots of lovely things and no joke, was watching
@drbecky_
when I answered the door to the postie, so imagine my absolute happiness when my present contained her book!
So obv I cried (See previous tweet for details)
