Labour Cllr for Brandwood and Kings Heath in Birmingham; Co-Chair of SERA; Co-Founder of Places in Common: working with communities to drive

change.
The community of KingHeath make clear
#EnoughIsEnough
- we need zero tolerance enforcement and an end to the culture of car is king. As a mum, Councillor and residents I will work with
@for_birmingham
to ensure that our right to be safe on our streets is heard👊🌹
Can this be Kings Heath? Just as so many of us have argued
@BhamCityCouncil
and
@WMPolice
- enforcement works! Thanks for seeing the light and hearing our call. Special shout out to
@for_birmingham
who have so effectively amplify the voice of our community.
Humbled to have received the support of so many people in Brandwood and Kings Heath. Looking forward to getting down to work with
@David4BKH
to make our community an even better place to be. 🌹
Birmingham’s greatest asset was on show today -it’s youth and diversity - you were inspirational and your collective strength is so powerful - you gave hope and direction today - together we can make climate action a reality. So much respect for all who attended.
The pedestrianisation pilot of York Rd has recommenced but some have seen fit to drive on the pavement, such actions are unlawful and show an utter disrespect for the wider community of Kings Heath. We will be asking officers and the police to enforce the regulations in this area
So the architect of the Dementia tax, driver of the Go Home Vans and hostile environment - the forerunner to the Windrush Scandal is on the CWG2022 Board. How is that going to help Birmingham’s communities feel that the games belongs to them?
Khalid as a Labour local councillor and woman who has experienced significant abuse and threats from various parts of the LTN/road rage debate - can I say you do yourself nor our party any credit by belittling and othering citizens of Birmingham 🌹
I have repeatedly raised this drivers behaviour with WMP.I have provided footage, details of the car and raised concerns about the conduct of this business.
@MoseleyHeathWMP
have chosen not to act, this is not ok. Tonight I have escalated this matter and made a formal complaint
This is a driver for "Brums Finest" pizza place who dislike the pedestrianised road. They have waged a campaign of intimidation against the public on York Rd for months.
@WMPolice
know, councillors know, but it appears there is nothing that can be done
Today a group of young people
@bhamys4c
who’ve organised the
#ClimateStrikes
morphed into an amazing movement for change. I am sure I’m not the only “Brummie Mum” feeling a little proud and drawing huge hope for the future in the way todays demo was led.
Totally saddened to hear of the serious accident on Kings Heath High St. Awaiting further details but my thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and witnesses to yet another car related atrocity within our community ❤️
Gutted and angry at this delay. Businesses have invested, infrastructure and plans have been put in place based these station’s opening this year.
@andy4wm
you are letting down our community. You chase the headlines but don’t deliver.
Sorry the Ward meeting had to be abandoned & that residents/BCC staff experienced aggression.
@David4BKH
and I welcome challenge but regrettably a few individuals have consistently misrepresented the facts and sought to turn the community in on itself. They will not win.
The diversity of Kings Heath and community solidarity was great to see at the
#UnityWeekender
. As I’ve said before an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.

"Sheffield Council has revealed plans for a pavement parking ban covering the the city centre.
The proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will make it illegal to stop at any time on a path or verge around most streets in the centre of the city."
@birmingham_live
Local journalism is incredibly important in an era of uncertain truths -
@graeme_brown
;
@birmingham_live
hyperbole for effect somewhat misses the point here - did you have a reporter there?
I’ve asked officers to bring forward a proposal that would allow BCC to enforce pavement parking across the board and still refer incidents such as this to the Police. The Equalities Act 2010 is clear acts such as this are unlawful.
This is utterly unacceptable. The 46 bus an unregulated subsidised bus service once again causing chaos on Institute Road, ricocheting off one car whilst another mounts the pavement to get round.
@TransportForWM
show some leadership and get this sorted.1/1
Birmingham we know right from wrong - the Tories don’t. Taking from the poor to give to the very rich is wrong and immoral. Let them know what you think - join us on todays protest🌹
Some Tories might object to coming to a “dump” like Birmingham- but not half as much as us Brummies objected to their creaking heartless bandwagon rolling into our town🌹✊🏼
Let’s hope the ticket issued sends a clear message that pavement parking is anti social and discriminatory. Pavements are there for pedestrians not parked cars!
The hollowness of the Mayor’s commitment to Moseley,Kings Heath, Hazelwell stations confirmed again today- no business plan from the Rail Exec, no timetable agreed with Network Rail and a massive hole in the budget.
@liambyrnemp
BCC has delivered on its part - can you take up pl!
Political opportunism framed by a dangerous misleading populist narrative that will put lives at risk. Our planet and children do need politicians who are capable of taking long term decisions but
@RishiSunak
that is not you.
Meeting Institute Road residents about the bus issue and look what I find on my way! What a farce! This road is not suitable for a bus route!
@David4BKH
and I are on the case!
Obstruction of the highway, impairing visibility at a crossing- clear evidence and a visible registration plate surely
@MoseleyHeathWMP
this is worth following up?
I realise everyone is in a hurry but I have to get my Greggs and hey, I haven’t parked my urban tractor on the zigzags… One for

Really pleased to successfully move today an amendment to the

@BrummieAsif
40 percent of Brummies don’t own a car . The poorest live in areas with the poorest air quality often working in low paid occupations that put them most at risk such as taxi drivers or delivery drivers. They breathe in the consequences of others privilege. 1/2
@BrummieAsif
Sorry you and
@lukeakehurst
line is just wrong. Clean air is a human right. Pollution limits the life chances of the young and old. This is not about inner or outer city - left or right - it’s about what is the right thing to do. The poor are already paying too high a price.
Roger represents no ones intrests but his own. He’ s attacked the Head of
@AndertonPark

@PoochManor
, women with huge integrity and a passion for public service. Schools in this area contribute massively to community cohesion in the city
@RogerGodsiff
puts this at risk.
Four years ago the future of our city, Birmingham’s young people reminded us whose future it was and whose responsibility it was to act.
@RishiSunak
has today put their future at risk in an act that is dishonest and disastrous for our economy and environment.
#ClimateActionNow
Our City should have nothing but pride in the service
#SENDIASS
has provided to children, young people and families. As a Council we have to stand by the promises we made, listen to
#SEND
families, no outsourcing and properly fund this vital resource.
Solidarity with
@BirminghamUCU

@CllrMikeLeddy
Ambulance staff working in the area have had notice of the LTN measures. “To date, there have been no detrimental issues reported by staff in relation to responding to 999 calls in the area. If the service did encounter issues we would work with the Council to resolve this.”
BCC has a once in a generation opportunity to make a difference and like Copenhagen harness its assets and investment for the good of climate and community. It’s so important it doesn’t “waste” it away!
Solidarity to nurses, posties, rail workers and all key workers striking today and in the weeks ahead - demanding a decent wage and rejecting attempts to make ordinary workers pay for Tory failure. Just like 2 years ago, your fight is our fight. Never cross a picket line🌹✊🏼.
Let me present Moseley Liberal Democrats and Radley, one of their council candidates only three months ago, happily keeping alive the misogyny of mother in law jokes as he enjoys a weekend pile on.
#everydaysexism
Congratulations
@alex4northfield
you are Northfield through and through,your common decency and integrity shone through in this campaign, really well done to you and your team - see you on the campaign trail🌹
Last two days to have your chance to invest in York Supplies - not just a shop but a community jewel that those of us with the means have the chance to support and ensure it continues to serve our community for common good.
On 1 December, we are holding a cycling forum for residents who are (or want to be) cyclists. Active travel benefits everyone – how can we make it easier?
@LizClements
Cabinet Member for Transportation is joining us. Book now here:
This road falls within Kings Heath LTN recognising that this neighbourhood cannot accommodate current car use and meet the needs of the community and climate. Narrow roads with double parking simply cannot fit buses in and if you’d asked we could have told you!
For those people who are worrying that the next pay cheque may be their last - it’s simply not enough to say relax the Government has got this- come on Andy the people of the West Midlands need fearless leadership, taking urgent local action that delivers results today.
Jack was a joy. His labour values shone through as deeply on the doorstep as they did in his “rallying the troops”speeches. He was the go to person when you needed an injustice fought and was a great supporter of the SEND community. Thoughts with
@HarrietHarman
and family.🌹
Liam makes his first sale- u can just tell he had no experience of selling Socialist Worker in his youth! Total respect for the way he’s busting the myths and talking about the crisis of homelessness in our City.
@BrummieAsif
If our kids are to have a future we have to change. We shouldn’t be arguing over the need for change but uniting around the demand that any transition has to be just and fair with real jobs and an offer that delivers for the common good.
Thanks to all on the Heath and wider B14 who’ve campaigned and given us the platform to pitch for this funding - now the hard work starts making this a reality! We will look to run a series of zoom conferences and events so that the next stages are well and truly community led
Our commitment to equality and social justice as Labour Party members who hold public office has to be beyond question. The Tory ideology that drove Clause 28 scared a generation - we cannot let this happen again. Homophobia has to be challenged in the Party, City and playground.
Please RT! This is our statement about Cllr Idrees’s recent comments in support of those attacking inclusive education in Birmingham.

who turned our ambitions into an artful and respectful celebration of
#EID
. So lovely to meet my daughters in a space that so evidenced the value of our diversity.
Today’s incident,a hit and run, has left a woman and child seriously injured. Residents have shared with me their shock and anger that again dangerous driving and criminal behaviour has endangered lives.
@David4BKH
join you in the call for zero tolerance enforcement.
Thanks so much to Institute Road residents for meeting with myself
@David4BKH
and
@TahirAliMP
today to discuss the issue of buses on their road. The road is unsuitable for numerous buses and they have been inflicted on the road with no consultation!
Opposition behaviours in this campaign are not ok. I would hope the Group Leaders act now to address the harassment and offer concrete support to those who are experiencing harassment. Solidarity with Labour sisters and those who respect the democratic process🌹✊🏼
Really sad to hear that one of my fellow Labour candidates has been harassed and followed today by both the Tory and Lib Dem candidates whilst out campaigning in Ward End
It’s hard enough to get women candidates to stand in elections and you can see why with this treatment
Brandwood and Kings Heath a great place to live, work,play and represent- a short clip from
@David4BKH
and I on why a vote for us on May 5th is a vote for the communities of which we are part🌹
Politics isn't about parties - it's about people. I hope this short video shows you the kind of people Lisa Trickett and I are, our values, and our hopes for Brandwood and Kings Heath. 🌹
The design we signed off for the removal of the parking spaces had trees as part of the pavement extension - it has been suggested that these may have been lost but
@David4BKH
and I are on the case.
Ask him to pop along and explain to Kings Heath, the Pineapple and Allenscroft estates when he has a chance - I’m pretty sure our local businesses will have some serious questions too!
This foodbank needs a home. Whilst volunteers work in alleyways we have a community centre that is under utilised and today was locked up. It is not ok for BCC to send families to this food bank but refuse to provide it with a home. Time to regain control of our centre.🌹
Popped down to Kings Heath Foodbank with Cllr
@LisaTrickett41
to pass on the £160 donation collected last Saturday at the
@MoseleyLabour
street stall and to thank them for the amazing work they are doing. Please donate if you can!
The trick will be to learn from this and look at how this level of traffic can become the new “normal” - the disproportionate number of Covid 19 deaths in areas of high air pollution means there can be no turning back.
Traffic levels in Birmingham have now stabilised at 30% of ‘normal’ levels.
We are sharing this data with
@DfT
regularly to build the national picture.
Thank you Birmingham for staying home and leaving our roads clear for essential services to get through.

A huge thank you to Y6 for inviting us to meet with you and the challenging questions you put. I learnt a lot today and can’t wait to see the next stage of your journey to becoming a school of sanctuary- you and your teachers are truly awesome🌹
I am keen, as is
@cummins23
to set up a local cycle forum to take a strategic look at what next and how existing initiatives can shape modal shift. A priority is key junctions/routes that connect to existing routes which was a driver for the Moseley scheme. Let’s sort a date!
@KingsHeathCAN
@JoBussey
Residents have made clear that traffic and pollution is their key priority - the dependency on the car is bad for climate and the community -making it easier and simpler to walk will mean those who need to drive can without the congestion and chaos that our area is so known for.
Victoria, Chamberlin and Centenary Squares are our civic space,last Friday there was an attempt to stop
@bhamys4c
crossing the Paradise link. Our civic spaces have to be open for the right to protest and for citizens to speak truth to power. Our voices cannot be silenced.
Great to talk up the cultural jewels in the Kings Heath crown at Council today.

We will continue to engage in sensible conversations- looking to get the best result for the community of Kings Heath and citizens of our great city.
Sorry I couldn’t be there my old friend COVID has grounded me once again. Great to see such a positive outcome from the work of
@Colmore_Junior
staff, children and parents. Next issue to tick off is the speeding on adjacent streets🌹
I agree and it was a point I made to the rather impromptu gathering that occurred earlier this week- the street space is community space that belongs to all our communities not just one interest and certainly not cars !
No matter how some may try we have more in common than divides us- come and celebrate with friends and neighbours our diversity and the life of Jo Cox MP.
I will ensure this is bought to the attention of the Licensing Cmte on the 16th when an application for these premises to stay open to 3am is considered 🌹
@garethjhooper
@bhamconnected
@livingstreets
I agree the lack of regard for the law and sheer disrespect for fellow citizens is not acceptable- I want Highways to look at pavement parking and again with them and the Police on how we address such behaviours and do targeted enforcement.

Great to get together with residents from across the Ward, and across the generations to celebrate the life of Jo Cox and a love of great cake!

Thanks so much to all the wonderful people who turned up, talked and again evidenced today that the legacy of Jo Cox and the values we share are stronger than those who seek to divide us.
