I’m standing to fight & win the next election as Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Northfield.
I’m Northfield through & through, and proud to be a Labour Councillor here.
Now I’m ready to unseat our Tory MP & get the Labour Government we deserve.
[CW: gambling/suicide]
"When the fun stops, stop".
For Luke Ashton it wasn’t that simple. He fell victim to a coercive gambling industry who bombarded him with free bets until his addiction took over and he tragically died.

When
@LabourDesign
posted these old election posters commissioned by Tony Benn a while back, I really wanted to buy them for our flat.
Couldn’t find them anywhere, so decided to get busy on Photoshop and make them a bit more contemporary...
Proud to stand in solidarity with my LGBTQ+ siblings after an increase in homophobic hate attacks in our city.
Birmingham’s strength is in its diversity and it’s unity - and there is no place in it for homophobia, transphobia or discrimination of any kind.
I've submitted my application to be Labour's Parliamentary Candidate in Northfield.
I'm Northfield through & through, and proud to be a Labour Councillor here.
Join the team that's going to unseat our Tory MP & help elect the Labour
Government we need👇
Delighted to be officially re-selected as the Labour candidate for Kings Norton North in next year’s local elections 🌹
I’ve been honoured to be your Councillor over the last few years, representing an area that I grew up in and care so much about.
Lovely to meet Tom Wagner,
@JeremySDale
and another Northfield boy, Garry Cook, last night.
As a season ticket holder of 14 years, it was nice to thank them for the fantastic work they’re doing to finally put our club & city back on the map.
#bcfc
It wasn't the Vice Chancellor at University of Birmingham who helped me get my degree. It was the lecturers and the support staff.
That's why I stand with them, demanding better pay, fairer pensions and no more casualisation.
Solidarity with
@BirminghamUCU
&
@ucu
✊
I’m the candidate running in this selection with the most Trade Union support, and the only candidate to be nominated by all 4 Branches 🌹
We can build the broad coalitions needed to win back Northfield.
But there is still work to do. Join us👇
Huge congratulations to the first ever Labour Mayor of the West Midlands,
@RichParkerLab
!! Looking forward to working with you 🌹
It’s clear that the people of the West Midlands want change, and Richard will deliver it.
Time to call a General Election.
Not gonna quote tweet K*tie H*pkins as she doesn’t deserve the reach that she craves.
But Birmingham is the best city on earth, and brummies (of all faiths) are the best people. This crisis has shown our solidarity & community spirit and it won’t be beaten by a horrible racist.
👏 Huge thanks to Aldi for letting us in before opening hours to stock up for the foodbank. And thank you to everyone who donated to the fundraiser. As you can see, it’s been well spent!
Remember, if you want to donate, you can do so here:

🚨🌹 I’m truly humbled and honoured to receive nominations from all 4 of
@NorthfieldCLP
’s branches.
Every corner of Northfield is a chapter of my life - and it would be an immense privilege to be our community’s voice in Westminster ❤️
So proud of our city for coming out in force to stand against hate, and to mourn for the life that Brianna Ghey deserved but that was cruelly taken away from her.
We must do better. We need to challenge transphobia and stand up for trans rights.
Rest in pride, Brianna 🏳️⚧️
Heartbreaking news about an absolute stalwart of the Labour movement, Jack Dromey. It was always a pleasure working with him & talking to him, hearing about his Union days. He did so much for our city.
RIP, Jack. Thoughts with Harriet Harman and their family at this awful time.
With child poverty soaring in the last 10 years and foodbank usage in Northfield at its highest level *ever*, our Tory MP doesn’t think austerity went too far.
My Tory MP is at it again, getting it so wrong on Free School Meals. Don’t “explain” the parcels - apologise, and urge your government to fix it.
Whether it’s for 5 days or 10, or whether it cost £10 or £30 - the food was wholly inadequate in terms of both quantity & quality.
Today, on
#WhiteRibbonDay
, it was fantastic to be joined in Birmingham by
@Keir_Starmer
, who reaffirmed Labour’s mission to tackle violence against women and girls.
Brilliant to see some of the fab work of the
@WestMidsPCC
team, supporting amazing organisations like
@bswaid
.
🌹 It’s official: I’m the Labour & Co-operative candidate for Kings Norton North in the local elections on Thursday 5th May!
Serving our community over the last 4 years has been an honour. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved but know we can do even more. Let’s go out there and win!
This is fairly representative of Andy’s time in office, isn’t it?
A weak Tory mayor failing to stand up to a weak government; nothing achieved besides a few headlines; and - when all’s said and done - still a Conservative.
The people of the West Midlands deserve better.
Yet again, our Tory MP has put his loyalty to Boris Johnson ahead of the interests & wishes of his constituency.
The people of Northfield deserve so much better.
I’ve listened carefully to the Prime Minister today, the
@BorisJohnson
we love and who has delivered. He’s made promises on how he wants to change how he does things, how he wants to deliver for my constituents and the UK and I support him in doing that. Let’s get on with the job
It couldn’t be clearer: we need a General Election now.
Of all the candidates running in this selection, I am best-placed to win it and fight Northfield's corner in Parliament.
With your support on Thursday 10th November, we can build a fairer, greener future for Northfield.
I’m appalled that my Tory MP has voted against proposals that would ensure my constituents would be able to feed their kids over Christmas.
There is absolutely nothing about this that is ‘levelling-up’. It’s allowing poorer kids to stay hungry in a recession.
🚨 Birmingham Northfield has the highest percentage of pupils on free school meals in the country, but that didn't stop their MP voting against extending Free School Meals across the Christmas Holidays.
Absolutely delighted that my friend & colleague
@SimonFoster4PCC
has been elected West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner.
He is a great man, and will be a true champion for the people & communities of our region. Looking forward to working alongside you, Simon!

I want to say how proud I am of this amazing woman. She’s the strongest, fiercest & most determined person I’ve ever met who always fights for what she believes in & lifts up other women before herself.
I’m honoured to be your partner & thank you for everything 💞✊
I don’t think Michael Gove doing drugs 20 years ago should stop him becoming PM.
His single-handed dismantling of the education system on the other hand...
I’ve woken up still very angry about this, and what it could mean for my constituents.
Personally, I’ll never stop fighting for hungry kids in my local area - even if my Tory MP never started.
So incredibly proud. Kirsten’s a tireless campaigner, a fearless advocate for our community, and she’ll be an amazing Councillor.
Looking forward to getting you elected & having you in the Council chamber fighting for the people of Northfield.
Let’s get out there and win bab❤️
✍️ FREE SCHOOL MEALS: I’ve written to the Conservative MP for Northfield requesting that he urges his government to take proactive steps to eradicate child food poverty - after he attempted to ‘explain’ the widely circulated images of inadequate food parcels.
As a Councillor in Northfield, I can only say a huge thank you to
@MarcusRashford
- because of you, my constituents won’t have to worry as much about feeding their children.
But it shouldn’t have taken this. The Government doesn’t care about vulnerable kids in my constituency.
Seats most impacted by the free school meals U-turn in England:
Birmingham Northfield (Con): 35.8% of pupils eligible
Sheffield Brightside (Lab): 35.2%
Hackney South (Lab): 35.0%
Birmingham Erdington (Lab): 33.8%
Knowsley (Lab): 33.8%
More:
Really sad and angry to see that the Tories (and of course, the new MP for Birmingham Northfield) have voted against protecting child refugees post-Brexit.
This is a move that will lead to more deaths & suffering. Those MPs that voted against the bill should be ashamed.
After yet again receiving nothing in the Conservative Government’s Levelling Up Fund, Northfield needs a Labour Government and a Labour MP to fight our corner in Westminster.
Full statement below👇
I’m proud to call Northfield my home and it would be the honour of my life to be our voice in Parliament.
We need a general election now. After 13 years of Conservative failure we now have a weak prime minister who’s government is falling apart.
Back on the doors today for
@PauletteHamilto
🏡🌹
She’ll make a brilliant MP for Erdington who will put her community first. Looking forward to coming back on Thursday to get Paulette elected 🙌
Always proud to stand in solidarity with my Trade Union colleagues, fighting for fairer pay and better working conditions ✊🌹
I loved my time at
@unibirmingham
- but it was because lecturers & staff make the uni so great. They deserve a proper reflection of their amazing work.
🚪🌹 Didn’t have far to travel for today’s doorknock, speaking to residents on my home estate on Rea Valley Drive.
There are too many people disillusioned because this Conservative Government has let them down. We need change. We need a Labour Government that’s on our side.
Huge thanks to
@RaviSubbie
for joining us on the doors in Northfield this morning 💪🚪
So many first time Labour voters telling us “it’s time for a change” 🌹
This crisis has shown which politicians are leaders, and which ones aren’t. Andy Street’s failure to take responsibility or understand what’s going on, shows he is not.
I can’t wait for my region to have a proper mayor in
@liambyrnemp
next year.
🚨UK’s largest Union backs our campaign to kick the Tories out of Northfield!
Delighted to have secured
@unisontheunion
’s nomination in my campaign to be Labour's Parliamentary Candidate in Northfield ✊🌹
Serving our community over the last 4 years has been an honour.
We've achieved some great things already - but I know we can achieve even more.
So vote Labour on Thursday 5th May to make Kings Norton a cleaner, safer and even better place to live.
Delighted to be out campaigning for a
#LabourGain
in Yardley East 🌹✊
Proud of my friend
@cgc47
for her amazing campaign and know she’ll be an incredible Councillor!
Delighted that I’m on the longlist to be Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate in Northfield.
I’ve been blown away by the breadth of support I’ve received so far from across the Labour movement.
But there's more work to do. Sign up to support our campaign👇
I grew up just round the corner, so it’s no surprise that my first ever Labour Party meeting was a Longbridge Branch meeting.
Tonight, I’m humbled and incredibly proud to receive their nomination to be our next Parliamentary Candidate in Northfield 🌹
🚌🌹 A great day in Walsall North with
@UKLabour
’s battle bus - and really pleased to be joined by some big hitters!
Fantastic speeches from
@lara_eleanor
,
@graceblakeley
and
@IanLaveryMP
about the real change we’ll see under the next Labour Government. See you on the doors🚪✊
🔴 1 in 10 teenage girls are unable to afford sanitary products. I am proud that

have passed a motion committing to ending period poverty.
However, this is just the beginning.

We stand unapologetically for inclusive education, and remain committed to the No Outsiders programme in the face of the shocking protests outside of our schools ✊
I didn’t grow up wanting to be a politician. Like most of my family, I wanted to be a teacher.
So it was a pleasure to welcome the next Education Secretary,
@bphillipsonMP
, to Northfield.
A Labour Government will give all young people in Northfield the chance to succeed.
[CW: suicide/mental health]
I’m glad that
@BhamCityCouncil
unanimously agreed to implement the Suicide Prevention Strategy. But our media has a huge part to play too.
My full speech from Tuesday’s meeting can be found here:

Huge thanks to everyone at my old place of work, Morrison’s Rubery, who donated toys to go out with Northfield Food Service’s Christmas Eve deliveries tomorrow 🧸🎄
Delighted to join Labour’s Deputy Leader,
@AngelaRayner
, and
@liambyrnemp
in Birmingham today.
It was great to talk to them about the importance of community spirit, and how people have come together to make sure no one goes hungry as a result of the pandemic.
Northfield has so much talent & potential - but we’re being let down by the Tories doing nothing to support small businesses.
@UKLabour
will grow our economy by replacing the unfair business rates system, tackling late payments, and giving SMEs the tools they need to thrive.
Here is part of my speech from Tuesdays debate, as
@BhamCityCouncil
declared a climate emergency 🌎🌱
This is a great start, but there is still plenty of work to do. Full speech here:

✅ Another morning spent stocking up for Northfield Community Partnership’s foodbank. Thank you to everyone who donated - and a special thanks to Aldi (Northfield) for being so supportive & helpful.

Westminster is out of date, out of touch, and out of control.
I’m Northfield through & through. So I’m standing to be our next Labour MP to make Westminster deliver for us: the people of Northfield.
I’ll proudly support
@UKLabour
’s plan to put power back in our communities.
Now beyond all doubt that the Conservative Party is completely devoid of ideas.
Turning to the man who kickstarted 13 years of decline is not the change this country wants or needs.
For the sake of our nation’s future, we need a General Election.
Absolutely delighted to be on the shortlist in Northfield🌹
This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our amazing local members. But there is still more work to do - so come and help us in the final stretch👇

Lovely to take the
@NorthfieldCLP
squad over to Erdington today to campaign for my friend
@PauletteHamilto
🌹🏡
It’s clear to residents just how much Paulette cares about Erdington, her local area. She’ll be a fantastic MP who will always fight for her community ✊
Delighted to receive my own local Branch’s nomination tonight 🌹
It’s a pleasure to work with such fantastic community activists, and I look forward to campaigning alongside them for a Labour gain at the next General Election 🌹✊
Spent my day with the Northfield Food Service, taking an hour out to go litter picking in my ward with some local residents.
Honestly so proud of what we’ve achieved over the last few days, and the biggest of thanks to everyone involved 👏👏👏
I’m proud to support GMB’s fight for equal pay from Birmingham City Council.
As Labour Candidate and MP for Northfield, I’ll continue that fight and support GMB members taking action to end pay discrimination.
I’m honoured to have my union’s nomination ✊🌹
It was lovely to take some of the
@NorthfieldCLP
gang up to Wakefield today to campaign for a great local candidate,
@simonlightwood
.
Heartening to see so many voters coming back to Labour after being let down by the Tories. Looking forward to seeing a Labour gain on Thursday 🌹
Solidarity with
@PoochManor
, who is an incredible colleague and friend.
@RogerGodsiff
’s misogyny and homophobia have no place in the Labour Party, and he should be utterly ashamed of himself.
What an incredible night 😍🎉
I’m a proud Brummie. I was born here, raised here, and I absolutely love it here.
So it was an honour to be see Birmingham put itself back on the world stage. From showcasing our local talent, to our rich history, to the values the make us Brummies.
What a fantastic day out and about across Northfield 🌹🚪
Huge thanks to so many Labour members for joining us. It’s a massive pleasure to see so many out canvassing for the very first time❤️
Your dedication is amazing - and will go a long way towards getting us a Labour gain!
I don’t think it’s the job of an MP to decide when their constituents should “draw a line” under an issue.
Many are still angry, and many still have unanswered questions. You have a duty to your constituents to ensure those questions are answered, not dismissed.
Teachers are refusing to stand by whilst our education system is destroyed by a Government that doesn’t value them or the service they provide for our children.
They’re striking because this can’t go on. Our teachers and pupils deserve better.
Great to be out of isolation and back on the doors in Kings Norton 🏡🌹
Lovely to catch up with the new Kings Norton South candidate,
@_SoniaKumar
, who will make a great Councillor and Ward neighbour 🙌
I’ve had my second jab 💉💉
Thanks (again!) to all the incredible staff at Northfield Health Centre, and all of our NHS heroes who have kept us safe in the last year 👏👏👏
Now give them the pay rise they deserve.
I got my politics from my mom, who was never explicitly ‘political’.
But she was a single mother & low-paid care worker (who never hesitated to stand up to her bosses), and has been a ESA claimant who got shafted by the DWP. Yet she still manages put everyone else’s needs first.
I am now officially halfway through my first term 😬🗳
A lot has happened in two years, but I’m still so proud of this campaign, this team, and this result. We won from the grassroots by listening, and responding with positive messages.
