1. Race is a construct based on physical appearances and culture. It was invented by Europeans to establish white supremacy which is why the definition of whiteness changes to keep their majority. Example: Irish people weren't considered white until recent history.

When she 1st did the backflip the judges said it wouldn't count bc she landed on two feet. So she taught herself to land on one and she still wasn't praised for it. Backflipping is now illegal but other ice skaters who completed new moves on ice weren't penalized the same.

Not-so-fun fact: They have to. Copyright laws don't protect recipes by itself. To protect their recipe books from plagiarism they have to add some form of a story to make it qualify as literature. They don't want to write those stories anymore than you want to read them. 😔

White supremacists can hunt us in the street and receive slap on the wrist sentences. Activists are missing or found murdered mysteriously. They put protestors into white vans. Cops go undercover as looters to create negative media. The media has a vested interest in propaganda.

As a point of clarification, I'm speaking about Southern blacks use of cracker as shorter version for "whip cracker". However in Shakespearan times cracker referred to a loud talkers, people who joked a lot or were rowdy. Still not a slur about white skin.

Disclaimer: These are features that are much more common in Black women but that doesn't mean only or all Black women have these features. I hope people's takeaway isn't to stop drawing shiny, dark eyelids but to incorporate them more, esp w Black women, in nonsexual ways.

So where did hot girls come from? Dark, shiny eyelids are apart of the Jezebel stereotype (hypersexualization of Black women). Black women were heavily fetishized in early cartoons. These features continued in cartoons as shortcuts to immediately sexualize characters.

Wearing a bonnet is the Black woman's hair equivalent of putting your hair up in a quick bun/ponytail. It's a casual style for convenience/practicality and is not at all inappropriate to wear in public.

A great example is Betty Boop. Her design is wrongly contributed to Helen Kane (last) who did sue but ultimately lost her lawsuit bc it was proven she stole her singing style and aesthetic from a BW performer, Esther Jones. Boop's short curls, curvy hips & plump lips mimics BW.
