Young man rang bell & asked if we needed someone to shovel the walk. I asked how much & he said $5. Wearing only a denim jacket, he proceeded to completely shovel the driveway, the walk, etc. for nearly half an hour. I gave him $15. Incredible work ethic.

No simple solutions or answers. But real treatment, including involuntary commitment to humane institutions of individuals who repeatedly display menacing behavior, remains an under-considered possibility. Treatment of mental illness is drastically under-prioritized in the US.
