@_megnagel The older I get, the less patient I become with such comments. The NHS as an organisation no longer tolerates this, so nor should you. Please escalate this, you can clearly handle yourself (and that ankle 💪) but the next keen SHO may be put off T&O forever by such a comment

@RCSnews @RACSurgeons Barely a week goes by without patients and other staff referring to as the nurse, the physio, the secretary, the student, even when I’ve managed the patient start to finish, including the operation. It’s tiresome. Simplify the whole system, call us all Dr, no confusion that way

@melblawyer26 @RACSurgeons @CatherineOrr73 The issue is that patients don’t realise that that female that isn’t “Dr” is even a doctor, let alone a surgeon or in fact “their” surgeon. I waste such a long time introducing myself and patients still don’t believe it. It reinforces unconscious bias against women.

@RoshanaMN I can only assume you’ve put this post up to show off: 1) You have pillows 2) you have clean sheets and didn’t have to change them at 2am 3) you have a towel- which is clean and suggests you have some form of wash facilities (our toilet is on a bit very nearby ward!) Lucky!

@danfurmedge Couldn’t disagree more. Every week I’m mistaken for the nurse, physio, consultant’s secretary... often despite being the surgeon who actually operated on the patient. Until such time as female doctors are treated equally by patients and colleagues, please address me by my title.

@DrCris This is a daily occurrence for me - I once reduced a fracture in A&E, consented the patient for theatre, told her I would perform her surgery, only for her to then ask when she would be seeing the doctor. The ‘Miss’ in the UK definitely doesn’t help. A sharp stare usually does!!

Clear solidarity @BrennanSurgeon but the reality in the NHS is that standing up so easily and saying “don’t worry, I’ll cover it” is, perhaps, the very worst you could do to be supportive. Managers won’t miss JDs if you step in, they’ll move on

This time delay would likely mean at least one operation would not be done
