With the amazing

Bernard Cribbins was unique in many ways, none more so in that way that, despite being in the parachute regiment, he didn’t mention it every 2 fucking minutes.
Albert Herbert was not a typical soldier but maybe his attitude wasn’t as uncommon as we think. Herbert was 19yo and plain terrified
Here he describes his novel way of dealing from the SS during Op Jupiter, Normandy July 44’ with the 4th Somerset Light Infantry

The US Army's Woodland camouflage pattern is the best camouflage to have emerged over the last 50 years. Still works very effectively in my view and doesn't look like you're wearing pyjamas after three washes.
I don’t think I’ve been anywhere quite as affecting as the

It was a privilege to be able to visit.
Only 3 and a bit hours from Calais.
Right wingers: War is a serious business, this is a waste of time and resources, it’s humiliating… blah blah

OTD, 26/06/1944 Operation Epsom started, and was born, what I think is the greatest British combat photo sequence, not just of the war but of all time. It follows 6th Royal Scots Fusiliers in their assault on Saint Manvieu

As someone with an extreme fear of nuclear war, I've made the decision to move the family to somewhere safer--rural North Dakota. About as far as you can get from population centers. If nothing else, we'll be safe from the warheads.
Do you know what the worst thing about this series is?
This British funded, British directed, British written and predominantly British acted show doesn’t mention the contribution of the Americans once.
Disgusting, completely writes out the contribution of the Yanks
Do better
The night of 23rd/24th March 1945, Operation Plunder, the assault across the Rhine began. BBC correspondent Wynford Vaughan-Thomas recorded this from an assault battalion HQ (51st HD) buffalo, just listen to the tension as he crosses!🔊

As you tuck yourselves up in bed tonight, spare a thought for a PIAT crew from 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, who knocked 3 Panzer Mk IVs from 9th SS, with a flipping PIAT OTD 1944

A high school student in Baku, Ayan Hasanova, during initial military training lesson, with her eyes closed, disassembled a Kalashnikov assault rifle within 10 seconds.
According to the standards, partial disassembly of an AK-74 assault rifle for an excellent assessment should…
People don’t realise the dangers of being a cosplaying Walt.
One minute I’m in my bedroom dressing up like an army man then somehow ended up in Al Majar al Kabir building an emergency sangars and mortar shelters.
I really should have done Napoleonic reenactment.
Silly me
If any veterans are part of those far right hooligans then you’re a fucking disgrace.
Violence is not a part of remembrance.

shame on you
1/4 OTD 1944, AFPU filmed C Company, 4 KOSB, 52(L) Div training near Sittard, Netherlands.
The full film has never been seen publicly before. It was filmed just 1 month before Blackcock.

Is there a more iconic image of the Normandy campaign than British infantrymen advancing through ripe, waist high wheat?

Now, here’s a thought. In

brilliant book Devil Dogs, he quotes a letter from Sledge to his mum, that he was filmed on Peleliu firing the 60mm mortar with SNAFU.
Searched for the footage & found just this bit from a newsreel, dare to dream?

When Adolf Hitler claimed that the “Reich would last for 1000 years” he hadn’t factored in Driver F Wastell, RASC of Finchley, London N3.
Seen here crossing the Rhine, 26th March 1945.

You should have seen the state of my nutsack during Op Telic.
As someone that used to train male and female army recruits, including hygiene in the field, don’t listen to Denise.
Female Ukrainian soldiers are getting yeast infections on the front lines. It's almost as if there are biological differences between genders that make women a very poor choice for soldiers....

Binged it at the start of the week, looked outside & was immediately worried that it hasn’t rained and the crops would be ruined, then I was chuffed when it did rain, but it hasn’t stopped for raining for 2 days now & I’m really stressed out again that the crops are fucked
@JimmySecUK
To all the people criticising the lads incorrect use of the NLAW: get your kit on, travel to Ukraine, poke your head out of a window whist a Russian tank rumbles past and take a shot.
Then report back to us
Say one thing for Masters of the Air, it’s ignited a spark of interest in me about the air war.
Best thing about living in anglia is you’re never more than a few minutes from USAAF airfields.

BREAKING:
The MoD has announced it will accelerate the DragonFire Laser weapon from a demonstrator programme to an operational capability to be installed on Royal Navy warships.
Initially for use as a counter-UAV solution, it is hoped it will be operational by 2027 but…

I’ve come across the most amazing unheard/seen footage of PM Neville Chamberlain after his visit to Munich in 38.
I was unaware this was part of his speech, such a complex man. Astonishing.
Please watch.
It’s just a scrubby bank of the A30 autobahn, outside of Ibbeburen, but it’s also the location of the farmhouse where on the 5th of April 1945 3 British 17pounder Archer SP guns shot up Whites platoon, killing 8 of his men.
@WeHaveWaysPod
1/2 I’ve stumbled across film footage of a well known sequence of photos, so I thought I’d share. Here’s 6 Cameronians (52 LD) and Royal Scots Greys (4AB) crossing the Dortmund Ems canal in April 45.

Gosh this was so much fun to do, I could have talked for hours about Peter and the 52nd 😆

There is nothing, and I mean nothing more dangerous than a bored squaddie.
Lots of people in the comments saying they don’t believe it…
I reckon most squaddies believe this.
In 90s Northern Ireland, the guard towers outside barracks used to have counter measures to stop radio controlled bombs. I turned them off when I was on duty so I could listen to the radio.
Coming soon, the story of the 52nd Lowland Division, 6 months in combat, one podcast episode for every week they were fighting the Germans.
The source?…. The divisions own wartime newspaper.
I wouldn’t have done any of these things, which have changed and enriched my life immeasurably. Meeting the the
